Gaikai: available in 2014 in US

I'm guessing no interest in this or people are still bowled over by the no DRM beatdown Sony brought.

Looking forward to this personally, it seems like they intend to have the service available on smartphones as well.

I dont quite understand this. If you sign up to Gakai and you have a phone wont that render the ps4 useless? So why are they advertising it?

PS3 games.

I'm actually surprised the service will be debuting with PS3 games. I thought Sony would start from the bottom of the PlayStation chain and work its way up considering streaming PS3 games will literally require PS3 server farms.

there is no way this will cost only 5 bucks a month. even if it does, youll have to buy your games again (disc based)

If this is not a subscription service like Music Unlimited or Video Unlimited, Sony will have wasted an enormous opportunity to offer gaming's Netflix. Their PS1, PS2, and PS3 library is filled with veritable classics and there is definitely an audience that will pay to access this. Hell, it's something of a killer app, I think, with the potential to shake up the console space far more than Microsoft's purported TV integration.

As for price, it has to be reasonable. I imagine price will be similar to their other subscription services, around $10 a month. As much as I'd love to believe it'll be part of Plus, it's far more likely to be a separate service offered at a discount for Plus members.

I hope Red Dead Redemption is amongst the first games supported

wouldn't they have to renegotiate all their titles licesing deal again if they want to make it into netflix like services?

yeah if this really is the netflix of gaming, ill get a ps4 and pay whatever they want. ive got superfast internet so streaming should work.

Really hope this is a part of PS+ and that it leads to digital distribution of PS4 games. I am pretty much over discs.

It will definitely not be included for free. I imagine the rumoured Playstation Premium will come to surface at some point, with a $ 15 a month cost (or thereabouts).

If I can play PS2 and 3 games on my Vita, I will be pleased. I want to see how the actual performance of PS4 remote play looks also.

I can't imagine streaming games like Wipeout HD or other twitch games will work well.

I'm more than open to being proven wrong. Prove me wrong, Sony.

I am a bit cautious about any sort of streaming, my parents have a box that streams them tv channels they cannot get here normally and it works fine. But games? Hmm

For something like JRPGs (not that there are many of those), certain puzzle games you can deal with occasional hick up. But most genres require the game to run perfectly at all times, that is hard to achieve.

Twitchy games won't be perfect and Sony have admitted as much. There's no getting around physics. Still, not everyone is equally sensitive to lag and, provided the value is there and the lag isn't too bad, it's a trade off many might not care about.

They would. I'm sure they're working on that right now. It's hardly an insurmountable obstacle as it offers a new revenue stream for legacy titles. I'm sure most publishers will be happy to get on board.

they would have marked Gaikai as a feature to PS + on that bullet point listing at the show if it was for PS +. Its another subscription more than likely

What's this rumored Playstation Premium?

What would be the difference between PS+ and PSPremium?

If I had to guess I'd say Premium would include a Netflix-like game streaming service via Gakai. I could see PS+ including select Gakai games a month and the option to pay for games you want via Gakai, while Premium would include the entire backlog.
