Yoshi's New Island (3DS) e3 Trailer

I don't know if it's up on US eShop too, but there's a 3D trailer of this here in Europe.

The original Yoshi's Island is one of my favorite games of all times, but this one looks so... soul-less, maybe even more than the DS one. I was excited when they announced the game a couple months ago, but after seeing that trailer, I doubt I'll get it unless the reviews are stellar.

The art style feels so bastardized.

They took the charm and smothered Vaseline all over it...

Looks good. Terrible name. They should really stop using "New" when so little at their show was.

It's a ready-to-go SEO title. :) Don't know if that's their intention or not... but you'll be able to find out information if you type "What's that New Yoshi's Island game?"

Look like someone tried to mate Yoshi's Story and Yoshi's Island's art styles together and where left with an offspring that had the charm of neither.

I'm more concerned about Arzest developing it. First time I hear of that studio, apparently founded by former Artoon members.

Yoshi's Island was the first game I ever played and Nintendo's inability to make a proper sequel continues to disappoint me.

Yoshi's Island DS was one of the best games on the original DS, so the fact that this is being made by mostly the same people is a positive sign.

Yep, formed by the top folks and founders of Artoon, including Naoto Ohshima, this is their first real game, the only solo thing they've done prior was Slot Monsters for mobile phones, yeah.

But Arzest is Artoon with a new name essentially. Anyone that made Artoon is at Arzest.

Only one person is the guy who was in charge of The Last Story Matsumoto (I think was the name) who stayed behind at MAQL, he's the same guy who said Mistwalker wants to make RPGs on Wii U. He was a Sega veteran who even worked on Sonic Adventure, but he seemed to have made a nice home at MAQL as their RPG man with Mistwalker.

And there are 50 people at Arzest and we know like 12 of them from Wii Play Motion's credits, this will be interesting to see who else is there.

I hope Nintendo buys them someday, they're a great team, that should be making original IPs and not basically butchering Yoshi's Island, as much as I like them.

Flingsmash was the last game by Artoon before they lost their name and became one with MarvelousAQL, Ohshima did the designs in the game (no character design is credited, but he did the designs in AWAY Shuffle Dungeon, another Artoon game and they looks very similar), and he was the Senior Producer of the game. This is one Arzest could've made, though the art director might not have went to Arzest, who knows.

I don't like the graphics... But the thing that I really can't stand is the music. If they use this kind of music for the whole game, I'm definitly out.

The Yoshi's Island series really seems to be spinning its wheels in place, the art style is the least of my worries here, while it's too early to see how this one will turn out right now it looks to be sticking too rigidly to the formula of the original game yet again only with a giant egg.
I find myself intrigued by Yarn Yoshi yet completely indifferent to this, granted i'm not the biggest fan of the island formula to begin with.

edit: Though I will say that the trailer on the 3DS makes the game look a hell of a lot nicer visually.

This game kind of looks like dog shit, and what is with the music? Blah. I wasn't a big fan of Yoshi's Island DS, but at least that appeared to look like a legit YI's sequel. This is a real let down.

This is a terrible looking game. I'm a huge fan of Yoshi's island but this lacks all of the charm of that game. Watched the 3D trailer on the eshop and even that couldn't make it look good.

Not looking forward to it at all

The pastel colors just aren't doing it for me, and there's not much gameplay to form an opinion, just Yoshi eating folks.

They really should have went the Rayman Legends route...

The gameplay looks fun enough (what little was shown), but I found the 3D trailer a bit painful to watch. Something about the pattern on Yoshi caused more eye strain than I'm used to.

From the E3.Nintendo page

Features:

YoshiÂ’s New Island keeps the seriesÂ’ fun game-play mechanics such as YoshiÂ’s Flutter Jump, Ground Pound and Egg Throw while also offering new abilities. For example, use the giant-sized Mega Eggs to mow down obstacles, destroy pipes and blocks, and reveal hidden doors.
Using the Nintendo 3DS systemÂ’s gyro sensor functionality and the new binocular ability, players can move the system around to uncover hidden areas as well as better aim Mega Egg throws.
Throughout the game, different worlds feature a variety of art styles, including oil, watercolor and crayon.

So, there are different styles.

you're getting closer!

It looks such a piece of shit that MS decides to remove all the DRM bullshit on Xbone and to release the console at 299, so everyone will buy that, no one 3DS, and NO ONE will think about Yoshi anymore.
