MotoGP 13? Anybody?

The game just came out on Steam and according to the website, demos are supposed to already be available on Xbox, PSN, and PC. I don't see where to get the PC demo and I don't see the game listed on Xbox.com or Sony Entertainment Network. Is it just for European XBL and Steam?

Does anyone care about this game at all or have people given up on MotoGP?

Edit: After checking the site closely, it looks like the console versions are Europe-only.

Developed by Milestone, right? From SBK series. US gamers are not missing anything.

p.s. Totally different from The great MotoGP 06 (another dev)

The game is releasing on OnLive tomorrow (probably at midnight pacific time). I'm assuming (like most of their games) there's a free 30 minute trial. You can demo it there if you want!

Seems I was wrong on a few accounts. They just released it but the trial is only 15 minutes. It's nice you get to try out the full game though.

You can trial it (as many times as you want) here.

I miss the ol THQ published Motogp games :(

I was never really into the MotoGP games. I did try the OnLive trial out though and it was fun. Not the best looking game out there but definitely not ugly. Helmet cam (reminds me of Shift 2) was interesting and they added a rewind feature (ala DiRT and Forza). Will definitely be spending a bit more time on this.

Got this on Steam and it fucking crashes on me every time I try starting a race. Fuck Milestone.

The demo did the same thing but you know how they always say every bad thing you see in the demo will be fixed when the full game comes out even though that almost never actually happens? Yeah.

I'm interested in the Vita version, looks like a great game to play on Vita.

If anyone has it on Vita and can share some impressions I'd appreciate it.

Going to grab this on Vita after work, it sounds like a decent port from early impressions.

Check the Vita thread, Foshy has his copy.

Played the demo on PS3 last night, didn't feel it.

Last one I bought was Moto GP 06 on Xbox 360, which was great. This kind of felt... I dunno. Heavy?

I had MotoGP 08 and it was the most uncontrollable thing I've ever owned.
I really tried to get into one of them (Moto GP '12?) and just found it way too difficult. It seemed good, I can't argue with that, but I couldn't wrap my head around the controls, leaning, separate front and back brakes, hugely important to be delicate with the throttle, it's a challenge!

Played all the Climax MotoGP games.
Thought '07 was the best, and unfortunately it was the last.
I always thought they'd be a good dev to make a Road Rash game.

I bought the PC version from GMG a couple of weeks ago for $20 USD. I'm currently downloading the game now as GMG have already issued the product key. I liked what I played in the demo - it's a Milestone made sim so I know what to expect. I'm hoping Milestone can recreate the magic of SBK 2001, the best SBK game ever made.

FWIW, I believe GP 500 remains the best 2 wheeled GP sim; physics made with feedback directly from Kenny Roberts Jnr and Valentino Rossi and great graphics for the day. Melbourne House created a masterpiece which is still being modded today making it the two wheeled version of the evergreen Richard Burns Rally. Piboso's GP Bikes may fill the 'hardcore sim' niche but it's a long way from being complete and has graphics that need a lot of work to match the SBK/MotoGP series but the physics are fantastic and the community reminds me a lot of netKar Pro. I understand people liked the Climax made games however I didn't care much for the physics but at least it looked good and the mulitplayer was very robust with lots of online communities. Monumental's MotoGP games were solid with MotoGP '10/'11 ironing out a lot of the issues of the '09/'10 version but alas the online remained shite.

Just downloaded and backed up MotoGP 13 ready to take home for the weekend. Gave it a quick blast on my work machine which only has a Quadro 400 in it but the game ran fine on tweaked down settings. I have lowered expectations of the game but it seems decent from the five minutes i gave it.

I am still rubbish at motorbike games though. Bugger. I wonder if i can get it working with my Razer Hydra? Or would that drive me insane! :)

Le Mans this weekend too!

I've played MotoGP 13 a lot more and really like it but it comes with some major niggles that Milestone can't seem to remove from their sims:

The AI in the PC version needs reworking as they wobbly through the corners and are jet powered down straights. Not only does the AI bash and crash into your rider like he (or she) is not there, they are capable of braking the lap record from a standing start just like the realistic level AI found in SBK games. Riding in Grand Prix mode with pro physics and realistic AI, Lorenzo beat the lap record at Mugello on the opening lap whilst Pedrosa beat the Phillip Island record from a standing start. It's not like an experienced player can't match the speed of the AI however as MotoGP 13 is considered a sim, it's laughable to be able to get close to any lap records from a standing start. At the start of the career mode which consists of 4 Moto3 wildcard rides, I was consistently faster than the AI in qualifying yet was stuggling to keep with the top riders in the races.

Why can't I start a race in first gear Milestone? This was an issue in the SBK series and appears in MotoGP 13 too. The AI make rocket starts whilst the player is forced to mash the change gear button in the hope first gear is selcted at the right time.

Weather effects are laughably bad. If you've played pCARS or any of the Codemasters F1 games, you'll know how great in-game weather can look. MotoGP 13 features the cardboard cut-out version; no rain drops or spray on either visor or camera yet the track has puddles and refective surfaces. I'm saddened to report that SBK '08 has better weather effects. Grip levels and lap times aren't overly effected by the rain either. Other issues are the multiplayer works intermittently at present, commentary is limited to a few lines prior to each session and at the end of every race, pop-up is noticable at every track and visual representation of damage is terrible and very limited. The lap counter can get stuck in all modes, resulting in a never ending race if a player selects 100% race length.

Milestone are compiling a list of issues to fix on the PC which is all very well but it begs the question of how much QA testing was undertaken prior to release. It's not as if the console versions are devoid of issues either; Alan Bioston from VVV Automotive mentioned in his Le Mans video that the Xbox version has major framerate issues. Anyone with the Xbox version ride around Indy and you'll have some of the worst framerates seen on the console.

Despite all of the above, I am enjoying the career mode and the overall experience however I believe unless you are a motorcycling enthusiast I'd avoid MotoGP 13 until a patch is released or a price drop/Steam sale. Alternatively, think about buying GP Bikes.

Thanks for the post, i'd heard of the niggles but for the most part it seems to be a decent game. Thanks for bringing "GP Bikes" to my attention too, i think i'm going to have to purchase that also.
How are people controlling bike sims? KB&M, Joypad, Wheel? Looks like i'll be using the joypad and once i understand the controls i might have a whirl at a Hydra config :)

Just reviewed it for my website, I felt it was ok, but a better job could have been done...if you want the link to the review, tell me, otherwise I can directly post my impressions ;)

My favourite MotoGP games were the Namco ones on PS2. Not realistic but they were fun arcade racers. This one from the demo was more frustrating than fun.

Does anyone know what the button is to take a photo in photo mode? I'm using a 360 controller and the lack of correct button prompts on the PC version is like russian roulette.

I hope next gen we can play these games by just holding our hands out and pretending we're holding handle bars on a bike. Or something like that. I can never get into bike games becasue of the control options.

I played the demo and didn't like it. For starters his hands don't even go up or down when using the throttle which for a game dedicated to motorbikes is a must.

My street R6 is 1/6 turn to wide open throttle. My hand hardly moves from fully closed to wide open. I can't imagine the GP bikes have any more travel than that to pin it. I agree a little movement would have been nice but it's not that important surely imo.

Honestly I haven't played any MotoGP games at all. I just played Tourist Trophy for a while back on the PS2 and got interested in it.

Either would be good 8)

Edit: mutliplayer is now functioning. From the Milestone community manager:

"Hi Guys, the online mutiplayer works again.

We apologize for the server outage over the weekend. Our hosting provider undertook a server migration to a new data center during which time the Lobby service was unavailable. The servers are back up and we are investigating solutions to avoid similar loss of service in the future.

All the accounts previously created are not available anymore, so you need to create a new one. Plus, if you can't join a lobby or no one can join yours please open the following ports 61111 and 33766.

At least we're planning today a server reset, that won't effect your accounts. It takes an hour and we will communicate the spefic time in the upcoming hours"

I also worked out why the framerate sometimes dips down from a v-sync'd 60fps and causes my graphics card temps to soar: Milestone are using the antiquated and performance sapping FSAA for whatever reason as they did in WRC 3. The Dark Side Of Gaming noted in their WRC 3 performance analysis 'FSAA brings a huge performance hit – even at its lowest settings' and suggested using either an FXAA injector tool or SMAA via the SweetFX Shader Suite. I think I'll be doing the same as SMAA at its highest setting reduced the frame rate by just 10fps.

Here I was thinking Codemasters F1 2012 was the largest clusterf*ck I'd seen in gaming but Milestone seem hell bent on topping the CM effort. The online modes were working yesterday and now all online modes are offline again (as of 2 hours ago as I type this). No word about the outage on Steam forum either despite assurances that customers would be informed... To add insult to injury I read on XBLA Addicts the PC DVD version of MotoGP 13 is missing the Time Trial option due to shipping with an earlier version of the game. Sadly they're not missing much as I've found times set in the Time Trial mode aren't being uploaded! I set the second fastest time on the TT mode which was a 1.24 lap around Phillip Island and it didn't upload - the top times remained unchanged.

XBLA Addicts also have a few Q&A posts with the developers which are worth a read regarding what got cut - the smaller than actual grids for Moto3 and Moto2 are due to performace issues - amongst other titbits. Worth a read if you've got the time and/or inclination.

In summarty I'll repeat that I do enjoy MotoGP '13 however this has been one of the worst launches for outstanding issues I've been a part of in a while. The free DLC will have to be sensational to redeem this title as the game has fallen like a stone in the Steam sales charts.

On a positive note: if like me you use an Nvidia GPU, the folks at the 3DCenter forum have posted a Sparse Grid Supersampling flag for MotoGP 13 to use in the Nvidia Inspector - 0x000112C0 Using this flag instead of the in-game FSAA option makes all of the jaggies disappear as well as making my card run 20 degrees cooler but it also makes the game look very slightly less sharp using the latest beta drivers.

Doesn't sound much fun. I wish someone would kickstarter an hd remake of the climax games. Even without an official liscense. That 16 player online with time trial based rankings would rock on Steam.

MotoGP 13 is a solid experience however the game forum on Steam as well as the various console specific forums filled with mostly unhappy customers, it's going to be a hard sell for Milestone moving forward. I do hope they can fix the issues people have trying to get an online account verified and to hold online races soon. Milestone are using RakNet for the multiplayer and apparently they are are having server issues.

Steam downloaded a near 7 MB update relating to the following:

ONLINE ARCHITECTURE
********************************************************************************

MotoGP™13 has no dedicated servers for multiplayer, so the quality of the online matches is strictly dependant from the connection speed of the match host. Lag situations and disconnections are mainly due to connection losses or bad connection with the host.

Got this on Vita recently and I'm really enjoying it - never played a motorbike racing game before but I do love racers.

Nice work with the mechanics, quite a hard game with the aids off...any tips for using the brakes separately? I seem to fall off a lot when I try it. I think just pressing the rear brake when you're going reasonably slow but want to turn in faster works...but other than that haven't found a use for it.

I've just been playing time-trial and some races. Feels like they put a lot of work into it though.

Free DLC (missing teams and riders from lower classes) for PC and consoles has been available for a few days now.
