What is it?
Project sweat is a 2D ARPG to be released on Windows, Mac & Linux. The game aims to perfectly blend an addictive, challenging & fast pace combat system in a seamless multi-layered environment, with every single piece of content in the game being highly detailed sprites. We're giving you 3 truly unique characters to play with in this beautiful world, and when we say unique, we mean it; each character will have its own play style, reminiscent of different game titles and genres.

Influence
The game mainly draws influence from the following titles

Ninja Gaiden: Black & Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike (Combat system)
Suikoden 1-2 & Chrono Cross (RPG elements & customisability)

There are of course many other games from various other platforms and media such as 'Super Ghouls & Ghost' & 'Final Fight'. The art style is heavily influenced by Hyung Tae Kim, known for his works on 'Magna Carta' & 'Blade & Soul'.

Visuals
We wanted our sprites to have the animation fluidity of Street Fighter 3 & the visual impact of King of Fighters XIII. We decided to reject the flash & IK animation methods which breaks sprites up into pieces & manipulates them like a puppet. We want quality, but we will not sacrifice any of it for shortcuts, we want you to be able to pause at any time during any animation and see a perfect piece of art in everything we put in this game. This is a colossal task as the game will include 3 playable characters and an enormous amount of NPCs, creatures and bosses, each with a Huge amount of highly detailed sprites to keep the animation fluid.

Nope.

You cant make those kind of lofty claims and not have at least a working demo of the combat system. Even a wire frame model would do. Im not going to piss my money away on this.

I'm pretty sure the creators are going to have some Pre-Alpha footage of the game pretty soon. I'll link it if it goes up.

UUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHH............

Edit: Didn't notice the brown strips around them titties, but at first they looked like silhouetted naked ladies...

Dat turn animation though...

Dat dash with awful start up and recovery.

Well if they can show what they can do, they will have my support. Until then, pass.

Im extremely skeptical considering how much work has been put in a similar indie title "Overgrowth" and that is in 3D a 2d game inspired by NGB sounds like a herculean task for 2 people.

Ouch... At first, I was hyped by the sprite stuff, but then I saw the video... looks really slow oO

I'd like to back this one, but I can't as long as they don't show some true gameplay.

JUST LIKE MY JAPANESE ANIMES.

Its totally Ninja Gaiden crossed with Street Fighter 3: 3rd Strike, you guys. Trust us. Our reputation precedes ???????????????????????

Stretch goals have been updated on the Kickstarter. I also am pretty sure what was shown in the video is not completely representative of what is in the final game. It does seem like it's still pretty early.

Yeah. The idea sounds like it could be awesome, but I want to see how they plan to execute it. Even if it's just the dude versus one or two guys against a test background. Hitting rocks isn't going to cut it.

I just talked to the devs and they said they will be releasing better gameplay footage soon. Let's hope it lives up to the claims.

If they can live up to the claims I'll back for sure. Love the art, but no gameplay can really hurt a kickstarter for a game like this.

EDIT: Wow it looks really weird in motion. I guess it's because it's really early, but maybe they should polish up a short demo build and release it to the public with the Kickstarter? It would probably get them way more money and attention.

As a person who likes 2D to look... I don't know, pixelly, this is not what I was hoping for. Oh well, I don't do Kickstarter anyway.

I think they forgot to mention Sasuke in the inspiration list as well.

But they're gonna have to show some more proof, you don't use the holy names of Ninja Gaiden Black and Street Fighter III in vain like that for nothing.

The main characters body looks a bit off in that turn sprite. Why does it get so skinny where his abs are? It looks bizzare. I'm not really feeling the design either, I mean if you're going to mention Ninja Gaiden as inspiration, you could at least give us a character that looks as swag as Ryu.

It looks like he's running on paper and there is hardly any collision from the sword slicing the rock. I can't stand games where you feel like weapon contact is invisible, no sounds, etc. Probably some loud mp3 sound effect to cover up from quality.

I admire early devs, but I can't praise all their work.

So one of the devs seems to frequent NeoGAF, but hasn't had his account approved just yet. So all the feedback you guys give they will put into consideration.

I wanted to see the actual combat system in action. They should have at least had that working.

Yup. Don't care until I can see it in action. Jumping on some platforms and hitting the action button to clear out some rocks really doesn't tell me much.

If I DID use that to form a base opinion, it'd be a bad one. It looks like a really highend Flash game.

They will have some gameplay footage ready soon.

They have some absurd expectations to meet given their influences. They are basically shootin for the fucking stars. I have not yet seen enough to tell if it's any good or not, but I eagerly awaiting more footage.

I'm just not convinced enough to fund this title, if there was gameplay and images shown at a state where it doesn't look like the game had just started development, perhaps I'd be more interested in funding it.

For an example, A Hat in Time was publicly in development for quite a long time before the Kickstarter Project was started, that way people knew what they would be expecting from the game instead of being given a couple of early images and promises.

So you must be the PR man.

No lol. I want to see the footage as well. I just want this game to be backed if it ends up looking good.

He might be a friend of someone on the team (though I do recommend catabarez clear the air on the matter sooner rather than later.)

I have no affiliation with either of the developers. The only communication I've had with them was over some questions about the game.

How not to run a Kickstarter campaign:

-Lack any credentials, a known IP, or a strong pitch

-Spend half the pitch video name dropping and showing footage from big budget games everyone likes, followed by an awkward early tech demo of punching rocks for experience points.

-Long list of "stunning," "phenomenal," and "huge" features that are not reflected by the budget whatsoever, or shown in any form visually.

-Update with a list of stretch goals when the project is 3% funded

Damn, the gameplay animation video is just terrible. Looks like it was half rotoscoped, half super cheated, made by someone who doesn't have the slightest clue about animating for a video game.

Are those just 3d models pressed into 2d sprites? Ugh...

Yeah, interesting sprite aside I see nothing here that gives me any sort of confidence.

actually honest to god laughed out loud at that video

I saw the thread title so I assumed they were going to be selling this game as "inspired by [something way fucking better than this will be]", but I open the video, get assaulted by these hideous little representations of the developers talking in "cute" "retro" blips, have them explain to me that their "ARPG" will somehow be like Ninja Gaiden Black and THIRD STRIKE lol (of course not bothering to explain how), and then they show a clearly unfinished, hella empty, awkward-looking action platformer that wouldn't even get Henry Hatsworth fans excited.

Amazing.

I've always firmly believed that it's best to not present anything to a publisher, potential funder, whatever unless you have a working prototype. That way people can get a clear idea of what you're trying to accomplish.

Not sure if what I just saw was a prototype. Hell I don't know what to call it.

I hate to say negative things about fellow aspiring developers, but this looks pretty bad to me. They needed to spend more time fixing up that prototype footage to be less of a mess before KSing it. That means less glitchy movement, some kind of enemies to fight or something to do -- That kind of thing. The game also lacks any coherent or consistent visual motif; The artwork for the main character is well drawn, but there's nothing unifying about the overall presentation. It looks like a madlib.
For all the attention they spent on proper cast shadows and pretty close to accurate anatomy, it's weird that he doesn't have nipples.
You ever seen Dragon Ball Z? Same thing :P
