What is SGDQ2013?
A new summer comes a new marathon! Coming in July, Speed Demos Archive presents Summer Games Done Quick 2013! This year, the marathon will be benefitting Doctors Without Borders.

This will be the longest and most action-packed SGDQ yet, featuring several big hits that have never been in an SDA marathon before. These include, but are not limited to: Okami, Quest 64, TMNT3, Mega Man 8, Diddy Kong Racing, Castlevania 64, Paper Mario, Pilotwings 64, Final Fantasy V, Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green, GTA: Vice City, and the Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Several old favorites will be showcased as well, making this the most unique game lineup yet!

As always, there will be prizes that can be won by donating, challenges for games that can be donated for (such as Watch Me Die difficulty in Doom 64), and bid wars where donors have a voice in the schedule (such as category choice for Super Metroid or which DS Castlevania game is played). Get hype for 4+ days of speedrunning craziness!

Special events
During the marathons, there are several special events to entertain!

Prizes — Donate for a chance to win great prizes such as hand-knitted plushies, perlers, artwork, games, and even big grand prizes such as a real metal Master Sword, or a Wii bundle!
Donation bids for runs — As with every SDA marathon, you can donate for file names of your choice and for certain challenges in runs. However there are also challenges for different routes, character choices, difficulty levels, and more!
Races — If the excitement of seeing games demolished by speedrunners wasn't enough, then don't miss the intense speedrun races! Runners face off against each other to beat the game in record time!
Bonus Games — Throughout the event, opportunities will arise for some of your favorite games/runs from previous marathons to be showcased despite missing from the schedule.

What is speedrunning?

Speedrunning is the act of completing a game in as quick fashion as is humanly possible. This often includes the abuse of glitches and highly skilled gameplay in a often very competitive and entertaining package.

Can't wait until the 25th to satisfy your hunger for charity and speedrunning?

Until then, check out the fantastic European Speedster Assembly 2013 marathon that is currently underway all the way from Skövde, Sweden until July 21st. It's practically the same format as SGDQ.

Feel free to post your favorite moments from past marathons in this thread and let's get some hype going!

I missed AGDQ when it happened but saw some of the Youtube videos.

I'll try to catch this one live, and it's on shortly after pay day, maybe I'll be feeling generous.

Nice, this one snuck up on me.

Much better timing than AGDQ back in January, that one was running during most of the work week. This one's over a weekend, and I'll be able to watch most of that Friday, too.

FF5's on so late, though...gonna have to stay up for most of that.

Oh, cool. Last years AGDQ was the first speed running event I watched and I enjoyed it. Little disappointed to see Super Meat Boy is missing, last year's run was fantastic and actually got me to pull the game from my backog and finish it.

EDIT: Going through the schedule, holy shit Bible Adventures? Gotta catch that.

Do you enjoy watching video games getting utterly fucking broken apart? Want something similar to AGDQ 2013's Donkey Kong 64 run? Well then, don't forget to check out the Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage speedrun.

Shit is cray.

If you want to warm up for SGDQ, the European Speedster Assembly have been having a marathon for the past five days. It's still on, at least till the end of the 21st:

Been watching for the last few days, they're just finishing up a Batman: AC 100% run.

I've been watching this for the last few days after work. It seems we're in marathon season and I love it. Speed Runs are the reason I don't watch TV any more :D

Siglemic hasn't been streaming too much lately, aside from being at EVO, im looking forward to see if he has a new route.

Really looking forward to this! I hope a lot of guys stick around for the after stream, best part of AGDQ last time. How are they going to do the reading of donations? Speedrunning just keeps getting bigger and bigger and I doubt they have time to read all of them. It's also pretty annoying to hear someone talk over the game the entire time.

Can't wait. AGDQ was great this year, and the schedule for this looks fantastic. Anyone know what a blind run for Hotline Miami entails? I can't imagine someone really attempt to beat it blindfolded, but if it's interesting I'll definitely put my donation towards it.

Ermagerd yes. I love AGDQ. This will be my first chance to catch it live (and donate!) since I found out about them. Sweet

:lol

Blind run means trying to speed run a game with never previously playing it.

It sucks there isn't a Metroid Prime run being done by Miles or GAF's very own Madao.

So he just hasn't played the DLC level? Lame. I mean, I'm still hyped to see it. But it would be hilarious to see someone try to play Hotline blindfolded.

Glad Funkdoc is going to be there. Watching him run Batman is always great.

Watching an experienced speed runner play a game blind is quite a lot of fun, do don't discount it just yet.

Playing Hotline Miami blindfolded would be impossible I think, there is just too much feel that goes into that game.

Pretty fun going to SRL and seeing some people practicing over the past few days. Definitely getting hyped! Definitely a few runs I'm more excited about though.

Pikmin isn't on the schedule for the summer run, but this popped up on reddit earlier today and I enjoyed my time watching it.

Pikmin - All Parts in 1:18:57

I have no idea if this is 100% or not, but I suppose that if someone does collect all the parts in Pikmin that is 100% right?

Can't wait. I wasn't able to catch it live last year but will be able to this year. Hoping to see some old faces as well as some new ones. Really hope Cosmo goes and does Wind Waker, and would love to see some more RPGs

Cosmo will be there but he's running Castlevania 64.

holy shit this snuck up on me! I know what i'm doing this weekend.
Super Mario 64 on sunday night... I'm going to be tired at work next Monday.

So going through the SGDQ schedule and my personal schedule means that I'll miss out on a few good runs live: Metal Gear Solid, Luigi's Mansion, Naegleria's run of Sonic the Hedgehog, bits & pieces of Adam's run in Vice City, Final Fantasy 4, and Twilight Princess.

However I feel that being able to watch a majority of the ones that I wanted to more than makes up for it. FF5 and Secret of Evermore on my "Saturday" evening? What more can I ask for.

I am so happy there's a thread for this. Put this on my calendar a month in advance, can't wait! :D SGDQ HYPE!!!

22 hours remain...

Gotta study for some exams and play some Steam games that I bought during the sale, but will try to watch as much of this as possible.

Some recommedations: Watch as much as you can from peaches_, funkdoc, AdamAK and Cosmo. They have amazing commentary and super entertaining runs.

Awesome event, thanks for the thread and all the info. Will definitely tune in.

I see Crystalis on the schedule... :O One of my favorite games growing up, I'm pleasantly surprised to see it's being run.

Woah, I forgot all about this.

Will watch for peaches, cosmo, siglemic, spikevegeta, and blueglass (yellow shirt guy).

Wonder if it'll go a few extra days like the last one.

Was hoping for another sinister1 NG or Tyson run but looks like he's only doing DD2. And no yoshifan :/

Looking forward to Hotline Miami, Dark Souls and Double Dragon Neon.

Disapointed that Super Meat Boy is missing, last marathon's run was fucking incredible
