Alchemilla Mod its attempt to recreate original atmosphere of cult game Silent Hill on the Source Engine. It is not rebuild to one of games of series, its own history on its reasons. Above all things a project is developed for fanaticisms original game.

I just played through it, and it was quite nice. It's Silent Hill alright. Same sounds and environment that SH fans are used to. But this is more of first person point-and-click adventure, so far. And DAT ENDING. Damn demo ended JUST as it was getting good!

Cool, will try it out when I get the chance.

It's sad when a Source mod can do Silent Hill better than Silent Hill has lately IMO.

Source mods don't have to report to marketing, nor have studio higher ups wondering why the main character doesn't have a gun in his hands 24/7.

Oh shit, it does.

Walking down the hallway I could see a guy floating. When I moved forward, he moved backward.

I opened a door, the screen went black, and then when it came to, I was in another room.

Fuck, the Oculus Rift makes horror games a MILLION TIMES SCARIER.

Did you play Korsakovia? If not, you should :)

Oh yes! It was one of the most unsettling things I've played in a long time and I keep hoping that maybe TheChineseRoom will come back to it and give it that Dear Esther remake love. With a few of the bugs squashed and a fresher coat of paint than a bunch of half life 2 assets reused over and over I think it would catch a lot of positive attention.

Just thinking about the noises the shadow mists made as they crept by and then later spotted me gets my hairs standing on end.

Anyone who hasn't checked it out yet really should. Just be careful with how loud your headphones are when you play. Check the comments for a mod to un-break it, since one of the Source updates broke the mod.

Now this is just silly.

How does me shitting my pants benefit anyone.

Was wondering when a thread about this would pop up. Finished it a couple of nights ago. Really enjoyed it overall. The only thing I was disappointed with were the puzzles, they were a little on the easy side. I'm sure the difficulty will ramp up in the full mod though. Would be nice to have a map too. It definitely has that Silent Hill feel. :]

Looking forward to playing the whole thing, and revisiting old SH locations. The screenshots look for this mod look so good!

OH GOD.

I should get an Rift at some point :/

This demo has no combat at all, but I'm not sure if the final product will or not.

:P

sorry, i meant to say first-person. the perspective just takes me out of horror games. regardless of it being action-focused. it was one of the main reasons amnesia didn't have much of an effect on me.

being better than the hulett-era of sh games isn't really much of a feat. as long as it stays away from the usual sh fanfic garbage or copying the sh2 protagonist template for the 100th time it should be fine.

This is where i wish i had an OR dev kit.

I didn't even realize this was a thing, where you just DL Source on Steam and drop games in a folder. Is there any more good free stuff out there or sites dedicated to it?

Oculus Rift will crash and burn once the first couple people die of heart attacks while playing horror games.

Found this vid of the alpha build.

Know it's an early bulid, but still combat looks iffy. Kinda like the textures they used in this alpha more.

I'm assuming this build is "older" than the demo? If so, they could have decided to drop combat. Wouldn't mind that one bit. Either way, it definitely felt like a Silent Hill game, and I loved that. Only thing, get rid of that HUD [re: the demo HUD] ugh. I know it's very minimal, but it's prominent and doesn't really fit.

The monsters in that build are not the final ones fortunately. Here's what they have on the mod page.

Walking without any feet would be difficult, wouldn't you say? Also, this mod feels more like Amnesia than Silent Hill, which might not be a bad thing if you enjoy the former more than the latter.

Oh wow, at that nurse model. Scary as fuck. You're not supposed to see her face, but I can make an exception if they're going the Siren route.

Was hoping that they would have gone the SH1 route in terms of design for the nurses.

Would much rather have something similar to this....

than another variant of the SH2 nurse.

I'm just not a fan of the big-breasted look. Unnecessary, unless they are working with it thematically. But if they are then hello SH2.

There are no psychological themes with the monsters in Silent Hill anymore, at least not at a meaningful level. Just look at the two films. Did the nurses and pyramid head have anything to do with Rose and Heather?

It doesn't look right to me. Might just be the whole first person issue coupled with the lack of a filter over the top to make the darkness look more grainy and the fog being replaced with absolute clarity.

Let's not talk about the movies.

Revelations legitimately pissed me off. I've never been mad at a movie like that.

But the developers are most likely not using the movies for inspiration. As they implicitly say.

My rift is coming in tomorrow or Tuesday, very exciting! Are there any horror games besides this which support the system currently? Would love Amnesia but it's not supported yet and the developers originally spoke poorly of the Rift but actually got a unit and changed their minds so we'll see.

It pretty much felt like any apartment level from Silent Hill. Very cool, would love to see how it ends up. I was glad I didn't know that
there aren't any monsters in it.
I probably would not have been nearly as creeped out the whole time.
