Yakuza 1&2 HD Wii U fails to enter top 50 for first week in Japan

This info just popped on Dengeki Online (found it via Hachima). Or rather... It did not.
Here's this week's top 50 sales, where the game is missing: http://dengekionline.com/elem/000/000/693/693780/

The 50th best selling game moved 1878 units, according to Dengeki, so Yakuza 1&2 HD would be lower for that for its first week. The PS3 version did close to 60k on its first week back in late November.

I... don't think that's the result Nagoshi wanted from this "experience" of his.

It was a hot week.

edit:
beaten :-/

What a waste of time that "experiment" was. Sega, stop being dolts and actually do people a favour by releasing the HD collection and Y5 in the West instead of releasing Yakuza games on platforms where they won't sell shit.

I don't get the meaning of this release. Late port of a port.

If you are into the series, why would you not play it on your PS2, or the HD collection that was released for PS3 almost a year ago?

This seems to be targeted only for the very few Wii U owners who has never had a PS2 or PS3? Not shocked to see abysmal numbers at all.

The game released on the 8th and this covers 5th~11th, so it's not a whole week.

Although, if you search for the series-name on Amazon it comes up as the 12th hit... :(

Still wondering why put of all SEGA IPs why Yakuza?

miku, crazy taxi, skies of Acadia, hell maybe even a remake of Valkryia Chronicles would have been more successful

Off-screen.

I'd love to know just how low the number actually is.

I'd also love to know what SEGA were thinking when they greenlit this.

I guess the experiment was to launch a game with no marketing, no hype and a non-existant Yakuza fanbase on that console and see how much it'll sell.
Sega had his answer.

Well there fades away any hope for the future of the Yakuza series on Nintendo platforms.

With porting + marketing + distribution + Nagoshi stlying costs, this safe bet has likely turned in to a loss for SEGA.

BOMBA!

This was supposed to have high sales? I had no idea. Did the other do great numbers or were these two highly sought after?

Yakuza is a highly successful series in Japan.

...They probably would have had more luck putting 5 out digitally in the US based on Japan's wii u numbers, but I imagine Nintendo gave them money to do this.

According to some people in another thread Yakuza will become an exclusive Nintendo series because Nagoshi appeared in a Nintendo Direct.

a western y5 won't net a big company enough money, and it could kill a smaller one. sega would have brought it over by now if it looked like a profitable enough venture.

just to offer some perspective, tales of the abyss for the 3ds has outsold every yakuza game in america.

This release was just to get Nagoshi and his team familiar with the Wii U hardware so they can pump out an absurdly incredible F-Zero GX followup, so the sales of it are less important than the experience gained.

Didn't iwata mention that Yakuza on Wii U will light the way on third party support for the Wii U and prove to developers that not making a game on the Wii U is a mistake?

Are you talking about WW numbers of Abyss or just NA?

The concept of the port was to reach a staunch Nintendo-only console owner and see what they may purchase.

Now you can take two conclusions: said Nintendo fan barely ever touches third party efforts, or they now own a PS3 as a necessity for their other experiences.

Either way, a fairly high profile gesture like this bagging around 1600 won't have made the money back and sends a clear and strong signal to all other japanese third parties.
