Shadow Of The Beast announced for PS4

I was going to post a thread about that, looks pretty interesting. What kind of game was the old Amiga classic?

I almost cried when I saw the trailer.
This is my system seller and my hope are too high right now, but I don't care, for me this game means a lot !

I had the Lynx version. Also beatiful, also hard, also shitty. This license should die. Hopefully the new game shares nothing with the gameplay of the old.

Highlight of the show so far for me. The music and the graphics had a HUGE impact on my young adult life in gaming. Hard to remember a game that had so much atmosphere and was so unique. You guys are right though--super effing hard. Watching the playthroughs on YouTube makes me feel like a knob, but hey, I was just a kid. REALLY can't wait to see how much proper tribute is paid to the original. It didn't have nearly the same beauty with just a sand environment as opposed to gorgeous multicolored skies and brown gnarled trees and lush green grasslands, but my hopes are high!!!

they can get Sony Liverpool (Psygnosis) to make it!

...oh wait...

:(

it's a good idea for a revival, actually... though they should tighten up the gameplay a bit on level... well all of the levels.

Wow - out of all the games to remake, talk about unexpected.

This seemed to have absolutely nothing to do with the aesthetic and atmosphere of the original, though - which was pretty much the only thing it had going for it, so it seems. Even though I was a proud Amiga owner, I never actually played it. They're going to make this some sort of generic brawler, aren't they?

My heart was stolen when this was shown, any format i would have bought.

But there is a little irony in this, that they closed down Studio Liverpool didnt they. Like a phoenix from the fire.

Something like THIS is the kind of "reboot/re-imaging" I can get behind. I'm guessing that's the re-imagined versions of Aarbron, which doesn't look that bad(sometimes you get redesigns that look like crap FAR from the original). I'm down for this!! Would be cool to see other forgotten franchises get this sort of treatment. It's usually "big franchises" thought worthy enough for being rebooted. Why not reach into the bag of "forgotten games" that have been DECADES in dormant, and see if a little bit of magic can bring them back into the spotlight!

So, I had no idea what 'Shadow of the Beast' was. So imagine my disappointment when it isn't 'Shadow of the Colossus 2'.

Woah what!? I've had a dream for a Shadow of the Beast follow-up that builds on the puzzle/action balance of the third game (which is the one that actually had something to go on) and takes the form of a sort of semi non-linear Zelda type game where you gradually become more human as you do dungeon areas, and the gameplay would shift massively as you started off super-strong but dumb (or at least overly reliant on that fact) then lost your super-strength but had a much more varied range of tools as you became more human.

It probably won't be anything like that, but I guess I can keep some hope they might do something interesting with it.

Edit: Too bad the footage seems to suggest a God of War clone.

I tuned into the LiveStream just as the trailer for this was on. I just stared at the screen being like 'It can't be...It just can't... But that character *looks* right...'

I played this on my Megadrive, I assume it was a port. I remember that it looked awesome but I could never get very far.

Yeah, this game was brutally difficult, but honestly I have so many good memories of my Amiga 500 that, as silly as it may sound, I'd buy a PS4 for this title alone.

can't say i care much...

they didn't really sell an interesting concept, nor did they show gameplay. Not the best of reveals...

This was the surprise of the show! Such great memories of playing this for the first time, that amazing soundtrack and bordered parallax graphics.

They need to go down the souls route with this game, make it hard as nails like it was, but make it fair with good level progression and amazing boss fights.

Shadow of the Beast, eh? Played the crap out of 1-3 on my brother's Amiga 500. Games had alot of soul and crazy designs. Looking forward to whatever is produced. :D

This must have been a legendary game at the time. I remember a friend's brother who had an amiga 500 in the 80s who was looking down on our then revolutionary Donkey kong country we were playing on the Snes.

I really how this turns out to be good. A game in the vein of God of War / Zelda would be awesome.

My jaw dropped on the floor.

Do we know if it is a bigger title or not? It only said PS4, can't be something small.

BTW whatever happend to Until Dawn? and RAIN deserved time as well

Super excited about this. Not sure of what they showed, but SotB was never actually that great of a game, so maybe they'll surprise us all with the game that SotB should always have been.

Next "re-imaging": Last Ninja. Make it happen!

Aw, I wanted to post this thread, but the server thwarted me.

This was the most exciting announcement for PS4 today. Even though it'll probably be a silly God of War clone and the music didn't sound half as good, this has the potential to build a really cool world. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

So many games to show. Those are still coming to PS3 I'm sure.

Shadow of the Beast was a fucking terrible game, the worst kind of Amiga game. Shadow of the Beast III, on the other hand, was fantastic. I hope it follows that template, as that had wonderful atmosphere and design.

Ohh I've wanted a new Shadow of the Beast for so long and when I saw the logo for it it was a big 'FUCK YEAH!' (that scared my cats :/ ).

I don't care if this game ends up being bad, I'll buy it just out of nostalgia and love for the Amiga games.

No word of a lie - I dropped my iPad and clasped my hands to my mouth when I saw that trailer. I absolutely loved the first two titles and I only wish that Psygnosis/Liverpool was still around in some capacity to help out on this one. Give it to me in my veins now.
