Watching people playing game demo's badly.....

I just saw this video and wanted to scream at my computer screen.... READ THE DAMN ON SCREEN INSTRUCTIONS!

Scrub to the 4 min. mark....

Seeing scenarios like this all the time (especially from game journalist) almost reinforces why developers have to hand hold gamers with long on screen instructions or force them through a tutorial.

The person playing so badly almost always lead to them being frustrated and ultimately turning away from what could be a solid game. All because they didn't follow on screen instructions and instead try to play a game their way.

I am starting to understand why developers and games in general have leaned more on this hand holding style of introduction to game play.

It seems like the NES generation of gamers actually had the patience and fortitude to learn a game and plow through it where as today's generation is all about how fast they can get into a game and play along with playing the way they want to instead of the way it was crafted to be played.

To be fair, playing games in public tends to make people rush imo, and harder to focus completely. Well, at least for me.

Okay, that's actually kinda embarrassing lol

So people are supposed to play a game they have never touched before flawlessly the first time they pick up the controller? Got it.

a friend of mine is a journo and the worst gamer possible. He would turned down a game for being badly optimised for PC if his " top tier rig " can't handle the game correctly (lets say, BF3, Ultra AAx16, AFx32)

On console games, he always asks " what should I do " before EVEN reading the instruction on the screens. How should I know, dumbass, just read your screen.

talking probably makes it worse

yeah, wow.... its really bad. was this person unable to read maybe?

In the video he linked, its more like they should know how to read instructions and follow them, crazy i know!

I remember seeing some journalist at E3 playing Uncharted 2 demo years ago. She ended up going from hanging on the front of a sign to the back of the sign, to the front of the sign, to the back of the sign, repeat for a minute until the developer had to tell her where to go.

I forgive the players of most of these live demos at game shows for playing somewhat poorly because it's probably their first time with the game and they're rushed/ or in a place with a lot of distractions while they're trying to narrate. But if it's like in this video where the game is blatantly telling you what to do and you're just ignoring it I can't forgive it at all. It's crap like that which leads to Fi being in games..

TARGET AND PRESS B TO PERFORM A VERTICAL SLICE, MOTHAFUCKER!

Edit: And then when he DOES lock on, he fucken presses A!

That episode of one of those CSI shows where some guy is sucking at Prince of Persia and a girl is behind him doing the controller movements.

I remember being at E3 when Twilight Princess was coming out. Nobody could deal with flying the bird. Nobody. They all did universally awful at it. I came up to my turn and 90% aced it first try.

Some (many?) people are just really bad at things.

I actually had a guy at NYCC insult me while i was playing the skyward sword demo. I chose to fight the boss instead of doing a sky mission or dungeon since it was the quickest way to finish the demo. I was having some trouble as the wiimote wasn't synced properly before my turn had come. Some random guy comes over and says "oh my god, what the hell are you doing? Do you even know how to play zelda games?" I told him this is much different than twilight princess with the new one to one motion controls and he argued that its not different at all and i shouldn't even be playing this game. I managed to beat the boss unlike the many people i had been watching while waiting in line, and the guy who insulted me said "oh, ok i guess you seem to have some skills, sorry". I told him to piss off and went on my merry way to redeem my win for a free shirt. Couldn't believe people take these things so seriously.

Wait... did someone take over and show them, and then give it back and they still had no idea how to do it? >_>

Have to give credit to the guy that did that though. He went "Can I try?" instead of "The fuck is wrong with you read the god damn instructions or let someone not stupid play!".

This is by far the worst one I've ever seen. I remember watching it before Skyward Sword was out

I was watching it and thinking wow this guy really has no idea how to play. It was incredibly frustrating to watch, he made it look like the game's controls were a complete mess.

Oh, also that awful music.

After the first explanation it never explains how to target again. Not excusing the journalist, but instruction should remain constant.

Why would you want to remove from the player that wonderful joy of figuring out how to Z-target somebody after they ignore the tutorial?

GiantBomb Quick Looks are like this for me. I love those guys and I love Quick Looks, but goddamn are they terrible at playing video games.

The giant bomb quick look of shadow of the colossus HD.

I forget who was playing it but basically, despite having played the game before, they forget there is a grip meter. They then are unable to beat the first colossus but say the game occasionally is weird and he doesn't know why he's getting knocked off.

Oh also the QL of NG Sigma+ on Vita. They fail to make it to the first boss because they fall through the same hole in the floor three times in a row.

The worst thing is watching somebody play a leaked/urly release game, and of course they suck complete ass cheeks. I saw a dude spend over a hour on a boss in RE5, real talk. 7 minutes my ass, Wesker.

Keza's review will knock it down a couple points due to the zL button not responding when she pressed the L button.

I've seen a few of their QLs to know exactly what you are talking about.

It's when they start slamming the game because of their lack of following instructions is whats not fair.

Just man up and say you are playing poorly and is not accurate to how bad the gameplay / controls may be.

I'd bet the farm in saying that developers probably cringe or make fun of gamers when they see stuff like this. Especially with E3 demos that have clear instructions.

DSP thread

I didn't do that! Fucking lag!
This game is bugged!
Stop exploiting lag patterns! (This is an actual thing he accuses others of).
I don't know what to do! *gets codec call* Fuck you.

You forgot two of my favourites:

"The controls suck balls!" & "There was nothing I could do!".

It's amazing just how much some people manage to avoid reading or listening to simple instructions for the majority (if not all) of their playthroughs. I dread to think how many of them are out there, and how frustrating it must be for devs to have to cater to them.

Sometimes when I get stuck in a game at a stupid place I imagine what it'd be like if I was livestreaming it. Like I probably died about 40 times in that first major encounter against the infected in TLOU on hard/no xray, but at least I was learning gradually. Still would have looked super embarrassing and I normally think I catch on to everything rather quickly in games.

Yep weve all been there, like missing something so obvious.

The guy in the OP has ZERO excuses thou lol.

IGN reviewer doesn't follow instructions, then it make you wonder when they give a game like Wonderful 101 a 7 due to "bad controls"

I would advise you to never watch DSP playing games. My God he is absolutely the worst video game player I have ever seen.
