I don't know if he means higher resolution period or like higher resolution textures or whatever, hopefully both.

Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, the open world prologue to Metal Gear Solid 5 that's headed to both current generation machinery and the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, is shooting for 60 frames per second on next-gen.

"For current gen we're aiming at 30 fps and for next-gen it's 60 fps," Hideo Kojima told Eurogamer at the Tokyo Game Show.

Kojima's using the show to debut the next-gen version of Ground Zeroes via presentations on Sony's stage, with the demo he showed two weeks ago running on hardware equivalent to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Kojima expressed some caution about the next-gen versions, though. "This game was originally developed for multiple platforms, multiple devices and multiple generations," he said.

"Fox Engine was created with the current generation in mind. Maybe with other games that are being created exclusively for next-gen it might look a little behind."

The next-gen versions of Ground Zeroes will provide noticeable improvements, though.

"Of course for the next generation the resolution and the lighting will look much better," Kojima said. "Gameplay wise it will be the same - we're trying to make it as close as possible. The gameplay experience won't be affected whether it's next gen or current gen."

Why would you make a game engine towards the end of this gen which may feel dated in comparison to games developed on engines meant for next gen systems? At least this close to the next gen launch?

Was it not built for this in mind? In that it would allow for multiplatform development for this gen and next? I think it'll be just fine.

I have never been so confused about what version of a game I was looking at. Am I crazy or has most of the footage we've seen been marked as current Gen? Also, hasn't that footage been outside the scope of current Gen?

Fox engine better pay off. With that amount of time and resource they spend on it,
If the engine fail to impress, Konami might go all in mobile and never look back.
Hopefully new LA studio is a good sign.

Has the latest gameplay demonstration been released in direct feed HD yet? Will it even see a proper release?

no. But they said they will release it on Saturday or Sunday.(not sure which)

I assume they will also upload along with the second demo.

Building it for current-gen enables a 1080p/60fps upgrade for Ps4/X1. Which will probably look great.

Current-gen version, where the biggest installed base still is, won't be sloppy downports in this case either. I might double dip.

Isn't that a telling statement on diminishing returns in this industry.

There's no maybe about it after that demo the other day. It definitely looks like a cross gen game and sub par to the real next gen games.

It's a telling statement that it's a cross gen game. You can't risk doing anything on the new hardware that the previous consoles can't do too or it's "unfair".

It's a current gen game. No one's attempting to hide that. Kojima says pretty plainly it's not going to look like other next-gen titles.

Gameplay wise there is no reason there should be a difference in the PS4 version. It's there so that people have the option to play on the more powerful hardware and get those visual benefits.

The fact that they're saying just now that Fox Engine has been conceived for current gen is a bit disheartening. Their previous message was that it was state of the art but highly scalable and supporting also current gen systems.
I thought the point behind losing years in developing the Fox Engine was to get ready for next gen....not developing an other PS3/360 engine.

Are the next-gen versions supposed to be coming out at the same time (edit: as the current gen versions)? I don't even know when this game is approximately releasing.

The engine is scalable, so it's not like they'll have to scrap it once PS4/XB1 hit. He's just saying that since MGSV is a cross-gen game, it won't look like games that have been tailored specifically for next-gen.

Good to see that they are aiming for the high point for next gen. Everything I've seen of this has looked really good so far. I expect the next gen versions to look incredible.

There is simply no way the early reveals (even the one at E3) were running on a current gen system. No way in hell.

Take a look at CryEngine 3 and Frostbyte 3 to find the same thing. Those engines were developed for current and next generation visuals.

Of course not, we've known from the beginning all the footage is from PC. The confusion is in the kind of specs these machines are running.

is Ground Zero the same game that was shown at the xb1 e3 conference? That looked great to me. I'm a little out of the loop with the MGS news. Have they cleared up the differences between ground zero and phantom pain?

That was Phantom Pain. Ground Zeroes is the game with the (only?) mission where Snake infiltrates a base to rescue Chico. Kojima just played a demo of it at TGS.

Didn't they also show the current gen version on an "equivalent" PC?

Besides, it's not like it's a next gen launch game, no reason to get worked up about it.

Yeah they did, I'm just wondering because I thought people said it was going to be running on an actual PS4, plus the demo had PS3/PS4 buttons so I was confused.

Read again.

60fps is good. MGR should be mind boggling if they make one.
I kind of wish Kojima would shut up until he can say what year I can play it in.

Leaked by one of the actors for the game by SolidSnakex. He mentioned later tis year or early next.
