what framerate is "playable" to you?

I've heard this word being used a lot, I've played blue dragon, mass effect on xbox 360, bayonetta on ps3, skyrim on ps3, and I would say those games run like fucking dogshit, but I think they were playable and I could complete those games and replay them a few times without problems, for skyrim I don't need to pull off fancy shit because of the nature of the combat where I could mash x to win, in bayonetta the framerate runs ok for majority of the game.

So I haven't really played a game with "unplayable framerate", I just don't think such disaster is really possible unless you run into that bug where skyrim runs at 1 frame per second.

So how do you rate framerate? Is 30fps playable to you (it is to me, DmC, Vanquish), what about 25fps? (Works fine for me with dragon's dogma, bayonetta), 15fps? (Mass effect says hi), 10 fps? (Lolz skyrim).

How low can we get?

Edit: For PC gamers what framerate do you go for when setting up your game, assuming you don't have a top end computer that could run the game at 60fps+ and ultra quality?

I game on PC with a 120hz monitor, so 120fps is ideal. 60fps being the next best thing. Rock solid 30fps is the bare minimum.

Far Cry 3 and Dragon's Dogma on PS3 are essentially unacceptable, as in I'd rather not play them at all. But there are games like TLoU which people made a big fuss about regarding performance and I found to be fine.

EDIT: On PC nothing below 60, I'll strip out every possible effect to get it there, but that's not because of the game, it's just because a mouse at 30 feels like dragging a cursor through molasses.

I played through Blighttown in Dark Souls several times, so I dunno, 8 fps?

oh yeah i forgot about dark souls! yeah blighttown runs really bad but for some reason I didn't mind it too much, maybe it's the design of the game, I didn't have any problems with that area at all.

10?

30fps is playable.

I prefer 60, but the difference is really small. Unless I'm playing something really fast I barely notice.

Depending on the type of game I can easily handle a low 20s framerate. It's definitely not preferable but it's far from unplayable. One instance that did bother me was the infamous blighttown in Dark Souls. I found that pretty close to unplayable since it was almost a slideshow.

When I get into a game, I generally don't even notice framerate. I can tell the difference between 30/60 and play PC games on a 144hz monitor.

If a game is fun, it's fun.

Depends on the game really, don't mind playing as low as 25fps as long as it's not a character action game or a fighter. Hell if it's a turn based jrpg it can be 10fps.

30 is playable
60 is ideal

Although for some bizarre reason, 30 feels like shit on PC games yet 30FPS console games feel smoother. No idea why, but yeah...

I currently play Tera and when I go to a city it hits 10 fps regularly. So I guess 10fps, heck in FFXI I did long battles in a room full of about 100 people that required me to be on the ball as they lick their lips at us failing the fight. FPS 1-8 fps when the beast got crazy with aoe effects.

But the least framerate that I would prefer 30fps. I go through some crazy things.

I played Shadow of the Colossus on the PS2. I guess I'm fairly flexible. Although when it comes to racers I can barely stand 30fps.

It usually depends on the type of game play, if it's fast paced I'll be punching walls when it drops below mid 20s. I can still play with less usually but I won't be enjoying it much.

Playable? eh... 30fps is absolutely fine, but Shadow of The Colossus ran at like 20fps during most battles, and is one of the greatest games of all time.
