Sony Dropped the Ball with their First Party Launch Window.

Does anyone feel that with Sony's wealth of studios, that they should have a significantly stronger launch lineup? I can't help but feel that titles like TLOU and GT6 would have been markedly more suited to the PS4 than PS3 (although I understand that a development shift may have led to delays anyway).

I am actually beginning to feel, that Microsoft are capable of edging the opening 6 months much more than they should be.

I don't think they dropped it I just... wish they had decided to include their Japanese side on launch as well. JRPG's were huge for Sony... hopefully they don't forget that.

Edit: I should obviously add that I know JRPG's weren't ever a focus on launch but yeah. Just something I wish would happen. ;)

Both lineups are equally as bad to be honest, but PS4 wins it for me

Injustice > Killer Instinct and Killzone, along with titles like Knack and Octodad pull it ahead

Im happy Sony didnt kill of current gen meaning I could enjoy new exclusives comfortably until next gen begins.

This year has been grand and I wouldn't trade it for a few more exclusives for the PS4 at launch.

I don't need first-party overkill for launch. I'm sure Sony actually understands that good things take time, and that if you really want a polished product, you'll give it the time it deserves.

As a person who plays basically nothing but RPG's, there is absolutely no reason for me to get a PS4 (or any other console for that matter) before Witcher or InFamous comes out. Both consoles have nothing that appeal to me at all during launch.

I'll just buy Bravely Default in December and hope it lasts untill we get some decent RPG's out on the PS4. :P

Isn't the only MS studios game coming out Forza?
They bought a bunch of small EA exclusives, paid for Ryse and paid for Dead Rising.
Heck even Titanfall isn't MS studios. All of their studios seem to be miles away?

We all know Sony doesn't have that same level of resources in terms of being able to go out and throwout cash to buy a bunch of exclusive titles.

The only title I feel like should have gone on PS4 is God of War:Ascension

Knack, ShadowFall, Resogun, Knack... Infamous in Feb, Driveclub is now early 2014. I dunno, seems fine to me. There's going to have a ton of games over time, so it's not a big deal to me. Especially with all the F2P/Indie and third parties on board from day 1, it's not exactly going to be hurting.

It is fine. Not sure how many games you need at launch. Drive Club and Infamous will be out Q1 2014. If you don't want a launch game wait until there is a game you want. Plus there are a ton of indie and F2P games which I guess don't count because they aren't in a retail box.

Not sure what 6 month edging there is. Most people will buy multi platform games above anything else. PS4 isn't hurting for lack of interest.

I think both launch lineups are terrible.

Shadow Fall is looking like a fucking stellar title though, and it's multiplayer will probably keep me busy for a good while.

Yeah, I agree that they dropped the ball. It's a good thing that they are continuing to support the PS3 with strong games, but it did leave the PS4 with a weak launch lineup.

I'm fine with this though, it lets me easily save money this holiday season by not buying a Next-Gen Console.

How so? They have 5 first party launch games: Infamous, Killzone, Driveclub and Knack. Deep Down might come out during launch window as well, and the same can be said for FFXIV. So there's 2 third-party exclusives. The Order 1886 is most likely Q2. And that's not counting the number of non-AAA titles like Resogun.

They have a strong launch window than they ever had to be honest (and that's not even comparing it to MS)

Not really. gt6 and tlou have been in development for years before release. also most of the studios have recently released games for the ps3 or vita. it also makes sense for Sony to release those games on the ps3 for money reasons. gt6 is going to make a ton more on ps3 than it would on ps4.

and sony has came out and said that all of their studios have ps4 games in development.

None of their consoles ever had amazing first party titles right at launch. Everyone is overreacting. You want the new toy and you want amazing games to play on the new toy. Relax, they'll come like they always do.

Agree but as long as we're not in for a Wii U style post launch drought where Infamous and DriveClub slide to August 2014, I'm not too concerned about it.

I think the PS3's early failures and late success have shown to Sony that playing the long game is a better choice. They're better off sacrificing the early PS4 days to squeeze what they still can out of the PS3.

No. It's fucking stupid to drop a bunch of 1st party exclusives when the console is going to sell out regardless and all of the big multiplat games are launching within the same month. The lineup is great if you look at the entire lineup. Post launch exclusive lineup is already looking stacked! VGAs in December as well, can't wait.

Definitely find it weird when you look at the Xbox One's lineup... That a load it's launch titles weren't even conceived as next-gen titles.

PS4 could potentially have had GT6 this winter, as you say. If not The Puppeteer or Beyond.

Bizarre to me.

Still as everyone keeps reiterating, there's a lot of first party studios without projects announced.

Dunno, I don't really need a big bunch of games at launch, I want a steady stream of games so there isn't a big drought (there will be a drought at some point but hopefully a small one). Killzone and some downloadable games will be fine until DriveClub and Infamous, then I don't know what's after that.

Why is it so hard for people to comprehend this point?

Not really, it could have been stronger but then the PS3 would have had less games and/or there would be more of a drought after launch.

I've enjoyed TLoU and Beyond immensely and I will enjoy Driveclub, Infamous and the Order next year.

Second Son better make it. February right?
It looks good.

Hopefully we get teases from their other studios as well.

Having Knack, KZ, InFamous, Driveclub, GT6, The Last of Us in the space of a few months would make no sense.

They should have done what Microsoft did and moved the production of the PS3 games they were working on to PS4 a while back, then we could have had beyond etc as launch titles.

However, it does mean that when I buy my PS4, I can be assured Sony will support it until the end and not drop all their games once they have a new system.

It will be fine. Launches always suck. Even Wii had a Gamecube up-make. Everybody (for the most part) knows what they are getting into with a launch system.

Your opinion is that Sony should had issued an ultimatum at 2011 to shift all development towards PS4, effectively killing off first-party support for PS3 in 2013.

Your opinion is valid, but so is Sony's decision to continue supporting PS3 late into this cycle.

i agree, thesy should also have invested in more exclusive 3rd party launch games

TLoU would have overshadowed The Order and GT6 would have overshadowed Driveclub if they were for the PS4 and not the PS3. They'd probably rather use the first year to strengthen the series/developers that need exposure (Killzone and inFamous both need limelight too) rather than come out with sure fire hits for the sake of having sure fire hits that wouldn't boost console sales much at all anyway.

Killzone is a really big launch title and inFamous/DriveClub are just around the corner so it seems OK to me. That's three big first party games in the "launch window". It's worth mentioning that Sony haven't abandoned the PS3 or Vita due to the PS4 so they'll always need to spread the content around more than Microsoft do.

Sources? What games do M$ studios actually have in development? What studios does M$ even have?
