Male WiiFit Trainer Confirmed for Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS. Creepy fan art inevitable.

Today's Smash Bros. update celebrating the release of WiiFit U has confirmed that the male WiiFit Trainer will be in the game. It is currently unknown exactly how he will be implemented in the game, but odds are as a costume swap for the female WiiFit Trainer.

Now this re-opens the alternate costume speculation floodgates. Is a female Villager not far behind?

FYI: Mentions of creepy fanart are due to the GAF overlords. I think MWFT is a total gentleman.

This is likely an alternate costume folks

Which means Female Villager and Female Pokémon Trainer are practically guaranteed

Not to mention alt costumes for the rest of the cast

Which means FUCK YES

He'll most likely be implemented the same way as Wario was in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, as an alt costume.

He's not a new character, I should mention.

Reiterating this from the other thread: not only does he not have a character slot on the website, but he's announced on HALLOWEEN.

He's an alt costume.

Yeah, this is pretty clearly a costume swap. Character reveals have quite a bit more gravitas & hubub behind them. They're even striking the same pose.

This does open the door to alt costumes for ever character. Female AC Villager? Dr Mario? Sports attire Peach?

Assist Trophy? Because I think female WFT's moveset looks a bit girly. Scratch that, alt costume would actually be great, lol.

Female Villager is practically guaranteed too, then.

I don't think they'll do alternates for everyone, only in cases like this where it makes sense. Along the same lines, they could feasibly do:

Pokemon Trainers M/F
Marth/Lucina
Diddy Kong/Dixie Kong
Olimar/Brittany?

IT'S NOT A NEW CHARACTER

I REPEAT

IT'S NOT A NEW CHARACTER
While this is almost certainly the case, I said it was "unknown" simply because they didn't specify.

I think most people are gonna assume he's a costume swap.

Eh, it's just fitness moves. And the male silhouette appears during the WFT's Final Smash. (This is what initially led me to believe he'd be included.)

We haven't seen an Assist Trophy in Smash 4 yet but if Brawl is anything to go by, the Assist Trophy models looked awful in comparison to playable characters. Male WFT looks about the same as Female WFT. I'd say it's a costume.

He's an alt costume.

He's a new character in that he's aesthetically completely different from the female trainer. The real questions is who's really the alt? :P

Hah, I'm really just really happy with this. I'm so ridiculously easy to hype via Smash, it's embarrassing. I'm keeping my expectations low, but I really think at the very least, a Female Villager is now a given, considering how popular the franchise is with the ladies. I never expected WFT to have the male counterpart featured, so it makes sense it's available for other characters that aren't defined, such as Pokémon Trainer.

Please don't be a clone fighter. Please don't be a clone fighter. Please don't be a clone fighter. Please don't be a clone fighter. Please don't be a clone fighter. Please don't be a clone fighter. Please don't be a clone fighter.

Should be (and hopefully is) just an alternate costume for the female Wii Fit Trainer. Though nobody would want to play as him anyway.

Wouldn't that basically be a clone?

Quite different for just an alt (he even seems a bit taller). Cool nonetheless.

Looks like they're the same height, actually. If her legs were at a steeper angle like his it'd be more obvious they're the same. They're not on the same exact jump frame as each other, but you can see the overall animation is the same down to the hand position, so it'd make sense to keep the hitboxes and animations consistent.

Why "probably"? Seeing as how they both have the same jumping animation and today is a day for dressinf up in costumes wouldn't it be more likely that its a costume?
Hell if I know. I'm just guessing. It would be cool though.
They are doing the exact same jump, and this update was put up on Halloween. (Plus, we haven't even seen any assist trophies yet, if I recall correctly.)

All signs point to alternate costume.
Alright. I haven't been keeping up on Smash screenshots so I didn't know they haven't shown any assist trophies. Always wanted alternate costumes in Smash and now would be a good time as ever.

"slots" don't exist :p

"slots" is not a fixed amount of spots on the roster, but the concept does exist with limited development time
granted an alt costume isn't taking up any time, but if the game was really overloaded with clones it would cut out others

Anyone thinking this automatically confirms alternate costumes for anyone else better keep their excitement in check

Though no female villager would be criminal

Does this mean we can get Roy as Alt for Marth? I mean Marth and Roy really don't have different body shapes from what we had in Melee.

As I mentioned in the other thread, I think things like Roy and Daisy are a bit harder than the MWFT and the (assumed) female Villager.

The trainers and villagers are just blank slates, with no real characterization. I think it would be a disservice to put in full fledged characters just as alts. But, I guess we'll see.
