No XB1 demo units being shipped to stores, only display stands

I'm not sure if this is news or not. So melt this thread if it's old or stupid.

This will probably just filter to the back part of the forum for no one to read but oh well.

We just got our X1 demo in store, only...it's not a demo, it's a cut in half fake xbox 1 with a media player running it, the screen is playing X1 games obviously.

The games coordinator was expecting an actual REAL X1, only he was told that it overheats in the display case so we got this instead, needless to say I'm kinda disappointed that I don't get to try out next gen :(

The weird part is the displays we get for 360 and PS3 are pretty similar to this and they were not worried about overheating.

Why the hell couldn't they just make the glass bigger or add vents or some shit.

Instead we got. "Here have half a fake X1 running visuals from the PC version."

We are not sure, it's just disappointing that's all. I want to put it down to ventilation, However I simply don't understand why MS could not have just supplied a bigger box with holes in it or something.

I'm sure the system doesn't overheat, it's just seriously disapointing...like thanks MS... I guess... for, half a fake... Not even a full size fake, we aren't good enough I guess :S

Good lord. At first I was all, put some holes in it....then I read it is a fake.

Thread title really should be kiosks are more XBO shell rather than actual units. Not about overheating.
 
If they had real units in demo stations it would at least give consumers fair warning if there was another rrod debacle in the making.

Still, its dumb not to have a well ventilated security stand.
 
I tried to take a picture the other night, but I saw our local Walmart putting together their XBox One display, and it was also a model cut in half.

It looked a little less noticeable than yours after they set it up.
 
Overheating? What the hell is causing it to overheat? It's low powered, has an external power supply, and is the size of a small house.
 
There have been multiple reliable sources that have stated neither the Xbox nor the PlayStation over heat.

Well in most cases demo units have the actual demo machine hidden away and a fake shell unit for display

But the overheating thing is interesting and it sounds like there are no demos to be had?
 
The overheating isn't even the real issue here, its that they are showing PC footage? That can't be...

How well informed is this games co-ordinator? Where did they get this information from? Doesn't sound like the kind of thing a Microsoft rep would want to let slip... especially to someone in retail (I assume that's where you work?)
 
So this is how they're getting around resolutiongate.

They can play the videos in whatever quality they want and the average consumer will assume those are running on the 'console' in front of them.

I wonder if chronic heat issues was what Bish was alluding to. Bish said there was something CBOAT told him that if it was every leaked on this forum he would be heading to his shelter for a while.

He didn't mean it literally, it's just gameplay of Xbox One games on the media server of whatever they have installed.
 
So are we going to get a GT episode on this?

Anyway, obviously these systems aren't designed to work in a sealed enclosure. The PC version bit though... :/
 
What about the kiosk with the plastic cover in the front with open top and sides? That one is real right?

Why can't they just use that setup instead of the one in the OP?
 
Yeah anything would overheat inside a closed display. Kinda dumb they didn't design the kiosk in a way to let air ventilate.
 
How odd and suspicious, this is the sole reason why I'm waiting a year on the Xbone.

No RROD 2.0 for me please.
 
I've seen two of these at different Best Buys and thought they might be real consoles, but needed to be finished setting up. There was even mounts for the controllers, but it's the exact same setup as OP.

Crazy, as I was hoping to play one before launch.
 
I'm baffled at why store are having this problem. Do they seriously have no way to keep the console from being stolen without putting it in a plastic box?
 
That would happen to any kind of electronic equipment in a closed case. That's not the piece of news that matter. What matters is that MS is demoing xbox one games with PC versions, again. So, embargo'ed reviews, fake demo stations, it really is a leap of faith to buy an xbox one :/
 
Wait, I'm confused, the demo's in stores aren't actually running on real Xbox One consoles? But some sort of PC variant media player? Am I reading this right? Why would they do this? Overheating issues? Who told your rep this?
 
Is it possible they just don't want real XB1s in display units yet? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to design the unit to ensure proper ventilation, so I'm skeptical about that being the issue.
 
Look it was bullshit about PS4 and this is likely bullshit too, there isn't even a shred of proof to this. MS has enough issues knocking at the gate we don't need to make shit up.
