I'm kinda shocked we're not seeing more complaints about the XB1 controller......

...because I think the analog sticks kinda suck for shooters, and that seems like a pretty big deal to me. I got to play BF4 at an Xbox event a month prior to launch, and I immediately felt like aiming accurately was difficult. I only played a single match, but that was the first impression I was left with. I loved the feel of the controller. It's got a great build quality to it, and the whole thing feels nice in the hand, but something about that aiming was just "off". In that moment I chalked it up to BF4 just being weird.

So I got the console at launch, and have been playing Ghosts on it. Whelp, the aiming still feels "off" to me in this game. The sticks are much looser, and taller, and it just feels like I'm all over the place with them. I've tried adjusting the sensitivity in the game up, and down, and it just doesn't matter. It's just so hard to be accurate with these sticks! I even see people in kill cam replays clearly struggling with the same problem, wildly flicking left, and then right, and finally settling on the target in time to get the kill.

For those wondering, no, it's not that I got a bad controller. I have a second one, and it's the same story with that one.

Interestingly, for comparison sake, I have Ghosts on my PS4 as well, and I can say it's a night and day difference for me. When I'm playing the same game on PS4 I have no problem aiming exactly where I want to. So it's most definitely not a game related thing either. It's just those god damn sticks on the XB1 controller.

To be clear, I've heard some complaints about these sticks elsewhere, like the Joystiq podcast last week, and Rev3 Games live stream at launch, but I'm kinda shocked at the lack of complaints so far. I kinda don't want to make this post any longer, but I could also go on a smaller rant about the triggers, which I feel are too curved, and seem to be designed with only an index finger pulling them.

Jeff from Giant Bomb also said he thought they were too loose. Not as loose as the DS3 but more loose than what he would have liked.

IIRC.

Yep.. I have the new analog sticks. Tension is too low, reminds me of the PS3 controller. Having a hard time playing BF and COD.

I didn't really have a problem aside from the bumpers. They just felt off compared to the 360 controller. I hope they revise the controller to adjust them similar to how they revised the 360 controller.

I actually really liked the sticks, though I doubt that textured edge will last long.

The bumpers on the other hand are terrible and I really wish the triggers were fully rounded instead of having that ridge on them.

My sticks feel tight when driving in Forza and seem yo have a good amount of torque when pulling back to centre. I've quickly fallen in love with the controller.

It's a great controller, I've been happy with it.

Yeah, the controller feels nice initially, but it's a step back from the 360 pad. Bumpers are uncomfortably placed and the sticks definitely feel loose in comparison. I prefer the materials used on the pad (especially the sticks) and love the new d-pad but it isn't quite as solid a pad.

I have had no problems with it and I have logged 30 hours or so in BF4. For me I still have issues with DS4 in where the sticks are located. It feels much better than DS3 but I still do not like the sicks next to each other for shooters. I am guessing that is the main reason for many. Also I really love the new triggers and so do all my friends.

I actually played a lot of COD4 on the PS3, and I had no trouble at all playing that game on that controller. I could aim where I wanted, when I wanted. So that's what's so alarming to me about these XB1 sticks. I cannot seem to adjust.

I'm generally not a "controller complainer". I'm not that picky about them, and I'm quite adaptable, but these sicks are just making it impossible for me to be highly accurate in this game.

Sticks are fine for me, better than 360. Triggers and sticks are the best ive used. Best controller for FPS. Also feels like quality, dont know how to explain it, but the material and weight is just right.

I've got both the PS4 and XB1 and while I can't speak for how the XB1 controller is with shooters I think it's a nice controller overall. I can speak for the DS4, though, and have thought that it's actually improved my ability to aim in BF4 and KZ. I love the analog sticks on it. The tension and extremely small dead zone make it a pure joy to use.

Played a bit of Dead Rising and Forza at my buddy's. Hate the bumpers - hardly an improvement over the 360 bumpers which were already rather bad. Other than that I thought it was a great controller.

The loose sticks are a little jarring at first, had to turn the sensitivity down in DR 3 (dunno if that's just the game though). It's great for Killer Instinct though, and while I haven't played it with a real fps, I can see myself eventually adjusting. The sticks have a really nice grip to them. I've had no issues with the bumpers either ( I've always hit the bumpers on the 360 with the middle part of my finger). I have to hand it to the xbox one controller still being as comfortable as the 360 controller.

I like the sticks, but I don't like the bumpers.. When I got to hold one in, sometimes I let go before I intend to because I'm used to applying a 360 bumper amount of pressure. This is a problem especially when trying to cook a grenade. I end up tossing it at a wall and blowing myself up.

... I don't remember them revising the 360 controller? The OG yeah.

This was my first thought too. The Giant Bomb guys made it pretty clear they had problems with the controller. Loose sticks, bad bumpers, and a sub-par d-pad. Still said it was a pretty good controller, but they showed a clear preference for the DS4.

The bumpers are weird posisionated, feels bad to push them, the sticks are way loose and not in a good way, felt like DS3s, the controller in general feels smaller and lighter and not in a good way either.

IMO the 360 controller is way superior.

I don't think there would as many complaints if the DS4 wasn't so good. It's just a better controller to use, Sony stepped their game up and I think Microsoft over thought the redesign too much.

They changed the dpad, that's all I can remember.

They did? Cause the d-pad still kinda sucks. Not really complaining since it didn't matter much and the 360 has my favorite controller.

On the subject, I actually thought the DS4 was over-hyped at first, didn't really like the set-up, then I used it for a long period and got used to the positioning and I'm finding myself to be at least as accurate as on the 360 controller.

I'm loving both the new XB1 and PS4 controllers. Zero complaints. I have the controllers they came with, plus an extra store-bought controller for each and haven't had any complaints. I can understand the bumpers hate, though.

This is how I feel.

Other than the battery life on the PS4, I am in agreement with this.

I prefer it over the DS4 controller by a fairly large margin. It feels like the Duke and the 360 controller had a baby. Absolutely love it.

DS4 loses serious points due to the placement of the share/option button and the dreadful battery life. Roughly it takes three charges to get the performance out of one charge with the XB1 controller for me.

I just wish Microsoft could give me a quality Dpad... I love Killer Instinct but that thing starts to wear on my thumb after a while.

The bumpers are too awkward to push down now. The sticks are loose as well losing a lot of accuracy. The d-pad, although miles better than the 360's, is still pretty bad since its indented leading to misses every so often. I also don't like the skittle-feel face buttons. They are not comfortable on the fingers.

Happy?
