I feel incredibly privileged to be able to witness videos like this in my life time

Taken from the Space thread (which hasn't been getting much love since it moved to Community)

Comet ISON approaches the Sun as seen by STEREO Ahead

We humans, intelligent apes, casually sitting back and clicking a random button on the internet to virtually gaze at a window that looks over our planet's neighborhood in the solar system.

And if the above was too "Low-Fi" for your sensibilities (and let's face, it is a bit geeky), here's a different vantage point on our home planet, this time in up to 4K resolution!

Watch in 1080p full-screen if you can. I can't imagine any human not being awed by this:

Watching comet ISON approach the Sun and come out the other side via all of these spacecraft was such an amazing experience. I love that we have these things out there watching the Sun 24/7 and this just becomes a nice side benefit of it. Incredible.

What's the object crossing the comets path in the video?
That's comet Encke: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comet_Encke

It goes around the Sun once every 3 years. It made for quite a nice coincidence that it was timed around comet ISON's approach.

god its soo strange stupid everyday there is a big fireball in the fucking sky and no one says anything about it or thinks is stupid of rucked up i mean a fireball in the sky wtf
