In case anyone is curious about software success, this is also in the PR.

Or, in other words, an attach rate of 2.3.

Less surprisingly given the paywall, PS+ subs are way up now.

Sony said:
PS4 software sales remained strong through the holiday season with more than 9.7 million* copies sold in retail stores worldwide and through digital downloads on PlayStation®Store. A few of the top selling games included Call of Duty®: Ghosts from Activision, Assassin's Creed®IV Black Flag™ from Ubisoft, Battlefield 4™ and FIFA 14 from Electronic Arts Inc., and Killzone™ Shadow Fall from Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS).

Many PS4 owners have quickly taken advantage of the features and benefits of the PlayStation®Plus (PS Plus) membership service. Global PS Plus subscriptions have increased by more than 90% since the PS4 launch*3. PS Plus members have access to the Instant Game Collection™ and can play the full versions of popular titles without a time limit and at no extra cost. Current games include Resogun™ from Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS) and Contrast from Compulsion Games*4*5, followed by additional exciting titles in 2014.

*Number of retail sales to consumers is estimated by SCEI. PS4 Software sales data in Europe and Asia collected 11/29/13 – 12/31/2013. PS4 Software sales data in North America and Latin America collected 11/15/13 – 12/28/2013 (some data collected 11/15/13 – 12/31/2013).

Is this enough to combat the financial loss per console? I forgot the number Sony was shooting for.

It was "PlayStation Plus and one game" IIRC.

They also said PS+ subs went up 90%, though they were selling them for $30 so I suspect that quote might not hold true at that price.

I think that is a higher attach rate that Xbox 360 had during the same time period. I think it was 1.6 or 1.8.

I'm guessing PS+ titles don't count as sold. I wonder what the attach rate for PS+ is on PS4.

Edit: I'm blind and holy fuck at the plus subscriptions.

I wonder if all of this good news is going to positively affect their stock. It has to, right?

I bought 6 games, btw. And that's just the retail titles, not including the free PS Plus stuff.

That is pretty good

I got Knack/Killzone/PsPlus

but for X1 i got ryse/dead rising/crimson dragon/killer instinct(the pack)

so im curious to see what the numbers are for microsoft

Other interesting statistics:
According to Twitch, 20% of their broadcasters are PS4 owners*7. Ustream is also reporting an average of 40 minutes of streaming per broadcaster*8. All these gameplay broadcast generate nearly 22 million*9 spectate sessions.

As I said in the other thread

Mmmh...

I remember, during last NPD, it was said PS4 had a retail tie ratio of 2, right?
Let's say it had the same ratio in Europe, and it remained steady till December. So, that would mean around 8.4 million games sold at retail and around 1.3 million games sold through PSN (I suppose retail games + digital only titles); a 15% digital/retail ratio, then (and that's the highest value possible, since PSN numbers should include digital titles as well).

holy crap.

I bought 3 games at launch. So, yeah.

Same here. I also gave Digital Extremes 100+ US dollars; 60 to support their work on Warframe and another 40-50 for cosmetic upgrades.

Dear Major Corporations,

When you listen to you consumers we will gladly give you our hard earned money. Listen to the people who put you in those yachts and mansions.

That 90% increase in PS+ doesn't sound so great considering you need it to access online play now.

Do you know how many subscriptions they had prior? No.

If they were at 8M+ subscribers prior to PS4 launch, there's not much to do for 4.2M sold PS4's.
