FINAL FANTASY VI for the iPhone/iPod touch/iPad is here!

FINAL FANTASY VI first debuted in 1994 as the sixth installment in the iconic FINAL FANTASY series. Innovations included the ability to play all the main characters as the game's protagonist, and to this day, its epic story intertwining each of their fates is still highly rated and wildly popular. The characters' dramatic performances are also highly rated, including the catastrophe occurring midway through, which delivers a particular emotional jolt to players.

With plenty of abilities available and the magicite system for controlling spells/summoning, players can develop their characters any way they want. This was also the first FINAL FANTASY game to include the Ultima Weapon, the most powerful sword of all and a recurring item in subsequent titles within the series.

Features
• All graphics have been painstakingly recreated, bringing the world of FINAL FANTASY VI to your mobile device for the very first time! Kazuko Shibuya, one of the graphics designers involved in the FINAL FANTASY series from the very start, personally worked on the main characters and supervised the recreation of the game's graphics.

• Square Enix's vast experience in A-list smartphone RPG titles has been harnessed in implementing intuitive user-friendly controls that make the game easy to play on touch screens. The battle interface has received particular attention, with a complete overhaul for use on your smartphone.

• This smartphone release includes the new magicites and events that were introduced in the 2006 remake.

• Some events have been optimized to be played with user-friendly touch controls.

Story
The War of Magi left little but ashes and misery in its wake. Even magic itself had vanished from the world. Now, a thousand years later, humankind has remade the world through the power of iron, gunpowder, steam engines, and other machines and technologies.

But there is one who possesses the lost power of magic--a young girl name Terra whom the evil Empire has kept enslaved in an effort to harness her power as weapon. This leads to a fateful meeting between Terra and a young man named Locke. Their harrowing escape from the Empire's clutches sets in motion a series of events that touches countless lives and leads to one inevitable conclusion.

Recommended Devices:
- iPhone 4S or later
- iPad 2 or later

Certain in-game conditions may cause the app to close unexpectedly on iPhone 4. To minimize complications, please take the following precautions when playing:
- Save your game data regularly.
- Close the game via the multitasking display after exiting.
The game also requires iOS 7, and has iCloud support. Maybe that's why the iOS version was delayed so much compared to the Android version? Well, at least it's out (in New Zealand, but it should roll out to other countries as the hours pass).
The game's price in that link is also the price for New Zealand using its currency, but going by the App Store pricing matrix that should translate to 15.99 USD.
EDIT: The game should be out in most countries by now.

On one hand, my favourite game of all time.

On the other, $15.99 on a device I don't think would be great to play it on AND I already have a huge back log. I may not 4,322 dip.

Fucking finally.

I first played this in 2010 (year I got into FF) but I left it around the ghost train. iOS version will be perfect for uni commutes and other long journeys.

I honestly got used to the sprites real fast on my bf's android. Looked and played just fine. That said, I still don't understand why there isn't an option to use the old ones. Couldn't they feasibly just dump those in without much hassle since they have those assets already?

Further, is there potential for the mod/user community to create patches (for jailbroken phones) to do this themselves?

Yes, I know Shibuya is a woman.

$19.99?
No thanks. I've played it before, and love it to death. I think I can wait.

EDIT: Why is it 19.99 for me? Regional pricing? (Mex here)
EDIT II: ah, read op

I have never played this, and I have been a huge fan of the series over the years I just never got around to it. Sounds like now is the right time!

The art style looks fine on my phone, it may be more painful on a tablet (it looks more painful on my PC screen at least). The game plays great IMO and keeps all the little quirks from the SNES original that made me smile in a truly nostalgic way... I haven't played much lately, made it past the battle of Narshe and just haven't had the time to play more.

It looks just fine on a tablet. If you have the ability buy the game(not you in particular since it seems you already own it). It's really nice to play in short bursts.

It's not. I suggest GBA version if you couldn't get a hands on the original on SNES or via Virtual Console.

I still can't get over how the characters stand completely flat against the background, despite everything else being isometric.

Is this game universal (iPhone and iPad for one price)?

The game isn't really isometric, I'd say it's oblique actually, with it being that it actually makes more sense for the characters to be like that than the original version's stance.

So, what... did she have a brain aneuryism or something?

Also, I don't think anyone should buy this until they find out if it crashes like the other version did.

Does it also make sense that they're drawn with their chests puffed out like some kind of bird?

I'd buy it but it's not up in my store yet, still, I doubt it'll crash since if you look at the update history you can see this isn't the 1.0 release (which was the Android version before "espied" got fixed and such)

And SE's games on iOS are very high quality as far as QA/bugs and such are concerned, at least from my experience.

*shrug* It's their style choice.

Well I guess I'm forced to buy this shit.
