We’re very excited about the new Hitman game that our friends at Io-Interactive are developing, but as you might know, we’re creating other Hitman-related things here and we want to share some of our plans with you.

We’ve been working hard here at Square Enix Montréal to come up with unique tablet/smartphone games that would fit the Hitman franchise (yes we said it: tablet/smartphone – let us explain). We had total creative freedom to explore this and see what we could come up with – something separate to the AAA game that is being developed at IOI, but something which still retained the essence of what a Hitman game is. This was a lot of fun and we decided to develop something quite different and, we hope, totally unexpected.

So, we’d like to introduce you to Hitman GO.

Hitman GO is a turn-based strategy game with beautifully rendered diorama-style set pieces. You will strategically navigate fixed spaces on a grid to avoid enemies and take out your target or infiltrate well-guarded locations. You really have to think about each move and all the Hitman tools of the trade you would expect are included; disguises, distractions, sniper rifles and even 47’s iconic Silverballers.

We developed the game with a small core team, which allowed us to iterate fast, come up with solutions more easily and embrace a development style that felt very fresh for us. When we pitched this slightly leftfield concept to the team at IOI, they absolutely loved it. Now, Hitman GO is almost ready for launch and you might even read about it online in the coming weeks as we do some testing to make sure it’s all working properly before we launch it globally.

We know not all of you will love mobile games but for those who are interested, we’ll share news with you here from time to time. Our next update may be sooner than you think as we’ve been working on something else here at Square Enix Montréal that fits perfectly within the Hitman fantasy – and you won’t have to wait too long for it either…!

And now it’s over to you. We know this isn’t a huge amount of information to go on, but we’re very eager to know what you think. You can send a tweet to either @SquareEnixMtl or @Hitman – or take to the forums.

That's the size of the maps in the new game.

Edit: thought this was the teaser for the next gen game. Silly me.

Actually sounds cool. No IAP's and price it right I'll probably get it for my iPad.

Hard to judge the potential of the idea with the info they've given but that's at least a creative take on what a mobile Hitman game could be like.

...I will give this a chance. TBS version of Hitman on tablet sounds like it could be fun. As long as Instinct is turfed, that is.

actually doesn't seem like a bad idea, since they are still developing a regular Hitman game too. We'll see how it turns out

This could be very cool is done like X-Com style.
Also a new MAIN hitman is still coming and the studio is saying all the right things for that new game so there is also that if your not into this.

That's pretty interesting, actually. Agent 47 probably has to visualize each mission like this anyways.

I'll keep an eye on this.

First hitman game I'm actually eager to try in a long time. Graphics are nicely stylized and it could end up being a great puzzle/strategy game. I'll keep an eye on this.

Gorgeous, minimalist art style. Hope it's consistent through the whole game.

Most likely being designed for mobile, so at least they're actually trying something different.

This could actually be great. Like a super tactical turn based strategy kind of board-game, but against the PC.

If they can pull it off, I would very much be interested.

- Still making a new console game
- Neat art style
- Novel idea that suits touch controls well

This is how you do mobile.

This is separate from the mainline franchise guys.

This is a cool side game with no IAPs. This is not bad, it looks pretty fun actually.

Might be cool, I guess.

Waiting for the inevitable Derrick meltdown though.

He got perma'd recently. I think the mods had enough of his constant negativity and shitting on game threads that espoused positivity.

On topic, I enjoyed both MG Acid games tremendously, I'll have to keep an open mind on this release.

doesn't sound that bad on the surface actually

I wouldn't get too excited until we learn about the monetization, though.
