What's up with Steam going down so much lately?

We've all noticed it at this point. It's up and down like crazy. The service we all love to love is letting us down. Ever since the official release of Dota 2 (or maybe since Christmas?) it's been down for a significant amount of time at least once a week.

What's the dealio Valve?
 
Down for me too right now. I must admit this has been becoming a big problem lately. I really don't know what they're doing but downtime has been very frequent as of late.

Edit: Back up but I wonder how long until it goes back down again... sad.
 
I saw that it was down and said to myself "Well, if Neogaf is down too, I'll just assume they sneak-released HL3". Imagine my disappoint that I can make this post.

Same. Well, I know it probably goes down and up all the time, but I never really notice it unless I'm watching it download something since it'll reconnect automatically.
 
I don't know what's up with it, but it is incredibly annoying. When Steam goes down, so do basic functions in a bunch of games. If Steam is down, you can't play Europa Universalis IV multiplayer or in ironman mode, which to me translates as, I can't play EU4. There's really no excuse for how often this happens. Whatever the cause, Valve needs to fix it, soon.
 
Down, down, down it goes. I was wondering if it was just me but apparently it's more widespread. Just when I was starting to get back into CS:Source
 
I thought I would play some Payday 2 while it was down but apparently while being P2P with no VAC guard, it still uses Steam for connecting people. :(
 
is it down right now? i thought it had something to do with me changing my dns servers, i can get to the website but the client wont connect
i had issues connecting to nintendo stuff earlier as well.
 
Just out of curiosity, do achievements you earned while Steam was down automatically register the next time you log into the game? I had no idea the system had gone down and that I was playing offline.

Yes, all achievements earned are time stamped and will sync when you go online.

Exactly 24 hours since the last down and now it's not working again
 
League of Legends has the same problem. NA has it pretty bad, but EUW is down at least once a day. Steam I never used to have problems connecting to until this year.
 
Valve should be hiring maybe one extra employee to put the cables back in after whatever drunken party leads to someone playing the inevitable game of "lets rearrange the server cables" :P

It is maintainence Tuesday, so it is expected on this occasion
 
Ha. this shit is a joke

It's a daily occurrence, and yet some people will still pretend there's nothing wrong with Steam, or make excuses.

Maybe they should actually work for once. They make money off of the community creations (CS GO has the weapons, also maps that get put into operations. I'm sure its the same for other gamws) and they don't make games anymore.

The least they can do is make sure their service works

But if steam is down all your games still work in offline mode, so it sounds more like a reminder that you have a bone to pick and are just looking for an excuse.
 
I don't doubt it's up and down, but I can't remember a single time I've noticed it being down, and I use it all the time, always connected.. Weird..
 
Was looking at adding someone to my Friends on Steam and yup, it's down alright....
 
been total shit using steam the last week in uk. dunno if its different in different countries but over here the service is shit the past week.

Yeah you can still play all your games. Its just annoying when you are trying to orchestrate some online play with a friend and the service seems to go down right when you are about to do it. This has happened twice in like a week. Probably bad luck though.
