Anyone else here is originally a PC gamer?

As someone whose first gaming machine was a pc, and has been into gaming years before getting his first console, the inflation of "WOW! PC gaming is awsome" threads lately seemed very odd to me.
I get the feeling that for many people, console gaming is the default, while PC gaming is a somewhat revolutionary concept.
Many people seem to have to "justify" playing games on pc, while for me it was the most obvious and natural think.
The only reason I got into consoles was to play exclusive games that aren't avalible on PC.

So,I'm curious to know if there are more people here who played games on pc first.
 
I was a PC gamer first. My first game (or at least the first real game I remember playing, I'm sure I played some educational stuff first) was The Secret of Monkey Island, or more specifically, the demo for SoMI that came packed in with a box of diskettes. I was 5 or so. My dad and I played through just about all the other Lucasarts point 'n clicks as they came out over the next few years.

Got a Genesis a few years later, been about 50/50 between PC and consoles since.
 
It's the same for me. The first console I owned was a SNES, but I continued to play more games on my father's PC than on that. Until I got my own first PC, which was glorious even if it was a hand-me-down.

At some point the direction switched and I started handing down my old PCs :P

For me that's still the only reason to play anything on a console.
 
I think my first gaming hardware was a NES, but I had a PC running DOS on a 286 CPU too. In any case I've been doing both for over 20 years.
 
I was a PC gamer in high school. The constant desire to upgrade and tweak made me never satisfied with the experience I was getting and I didn't actually play games enough. Moving on to console gaming has been refreshing for me. I can just focus on the games.
 
Vic-20 > C-64 > MS-DOS PC > Windows PC, so yeah, i'm very much originally a PC gamer. Never owned a console.

I like it here in PC land.

Original PC , when I got a job I bought Ds, Wii later 3DS and lastly Wii U. Pc is still my main gaming platform. Other consoles never interests me.
 
I can't imagine what it would have been like if my parents had gotten me a console when I was little, it was always financially just out of question. We did have a PC for other stuff.
 
I get into PC gaming on 1995 when my parents bought our first computer (486DX2 @66Mhz) and I discovered FPS games like DooM, LucasArts adventures, hardcore RPGs like Ultima and simulators such Wing Commander and X-Wing. And I become a PC gamer since then. All those gaming experiences were new to me, I never played anything similar in the arcades or with my old ATARI ST and SNES and I was really amazed.
 
PC is what got me into gaming initially. I remember playing Wolfenstein and DOOM primarily for a while. I did own a NES SNES and Genesis, but those games on PC is what started it all for me.
 
Yeah I came from PC as well. As a young un my dad introduced me to Wolf 3D, Doom etc and that was me hooked on PC gaming still to this very day. To be fair I'm more of a 'own everything' kinda guy. I had an Atari ST (fuck Amiga *spit* ;) ), Mega Drive, SNES, Jaguar, Lynx, Game Gear, all Nintendo handhelds etc. There's always games I want to play on every platform so I tend to own them all. It IS my main hobby though!
 
My trajectory was something like NES - SNES -> N64 -> PC.

My family got a really crapy PC. Pentium 1 @ 133mhz. 16MB of RAM I believe. No video card. But it could run Quake 1 at 320x240. I was amazed. 640x480 looked amazing but ran too slow :(

But that was enough to suck me into PC gaming. After that I played anything I could find. Duke Nuken. Shadow Warrior. Unreal. Half-Life.

After PC, I started skipping most consoles. I only tend to get one if there's an exclusive I absolutely can not afford to miss. And it can't be a shooter. Because shooters on PC are the only way to go.
 
Yep, I started on PC back in the DOS days, because my parents wouldn't buy me a console. I didn't own a console until I was in college and my roommate and I split the cost of a Gamecube. Since then I've owned a Wii, PS3, 360, Wii U and PS4, not to mention handhelds, so I guess I'm compensating for all those years when I couldn't have an SNES.

OF COURSE I still play on the PC quite a bit.
 
Yup! Gaming for me started with a 386sx 25Mhz 4 mb ram and 120mb hdd
 
We always had a PC in the house as I was growing up, so my primary interaction with videogames was through the PC. Games like Flashback, Another World, Operation Stealth, etc. were my early experiences. Then came Command & Conquer, Quake, Dark Forces, X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter and others in the mid-90s. I played lots of flight sims (F22 Air Dominance Fighter was my favourite) and RTS games too.

I got a SNES in '93, and an N64 in '97, so I played them alongside the PC. But the PC was always my primary machine. I guess I just preferred those types of games.
 
Does Acorn Archimedes count (I think it was an A3000)? The first games I played were on that system; Elite, Chocks Away, Lemmings, James Pond, Nevryon..
 
I was an exclusive PC gamer mid 90's to early 2000's and now I don't even have a gaming PC. Carpel Tunnel Syndrome sent me to consoles and I never left. I want to get away form hunched over a computer that I do all day long for work.

I do miss a good RTS but since that genre is dead so it isn't too bad.
 
Just IBM-compatible:

Had a PC that had 25MHz but the only game I played on that was GeoWorks and then later Win3.11 moving windows about.

Then got a 100MHz one and then because i'm such a great genius I bought a 200+ MHz Cynix. Those were dark times.

Until 2003 I played mostly on PC. Since 2008 I've been mostly playing on consoles.

I started with PCs when I was seven (22 atm), switched to consoles few years ago just to play exclusives, ended up buying mutiplatforms on PS3/X360 despite having a strong PC.
I just don't like gaming on PCs, so please don't try to tell me what I am missing (1080p, 60FPS, 3D, whatnot) because I know that. I just chose a closed ecosystem. Steam is not an answer for me, because there are many games that require other programs to run (origin, uplay, etc).. And yes, I can build myselft a gaming PC within a given budget.
 
My first game ever was Indiana Jones and the quest for Atlantis, although I didn't really play it, I watched my sisters play it and the repeated everything they did on my own time. I always played up to the part where you are in the balloon and then I quit cause I couldn't do it.
Later I got an SNES an N64 and was pretty much a console gamer up until the PS2 era where I switched again and stayed on PC.
 
I was a PC gamer first. Always treated consoles like machines for kids but then I grew up.
 
I suppose I technically fit the mould. The first game I remember playing was a hangman game that was installed on my parents' ancient DOS(?) system -- I spent so much time with it that I could often correctly guess the word/s just by counting the number of letters; also, I spent many if not most of my lunch breaks at primary school playing Hugo's House of Horrors. My family most definitely didn't have any consoles at the time as I remember being very excited when my dad told me that he entered a raffle or some such at work and first prize was a Sega Master System, which, fortunately for my optimistic self, is exactly what he won.

That's my fear on moving to PC gaming, can I ever be satisfied with the specs and can I keep up with the backlog??? It seems people who crossed the bridge never came back but I'm scared to get out if my comfort zone....!!!
 
I started with a C64, then an Amiga 500 and then some PCs.
Now i'm on team handhelds(or more precisely Vita), but i wouldn't mind a new standard computer like the C64 or Amiga, for this reason i'm disappointed by Steamboxes being just normal PCs with a different OS.
 
Well, being an old fart, technically my first gaming capable machine was a Colecovision with the addon peripheral that supported Atari 2600 games, but I only became really serious about gaming in my young twenties playing Quake online on PC.
 
I'd like to say yes since the C64 but I did have a 2600 prior. Both the C64 and 2600 was where I did my video gaming through the entire 80s. I didn't get a NES until 1990. Though by the time we got the c64 in 1984 my 2600 wasn't really heavily used.

This was a while ago. Things have improved a lot in the past few years and it also just hit an almost OCD part of my personality. I doubt it would be like that for many others.
 
Started out on a ZX81 then moved up to a ZX Spectrum 48k and a Spectrum 128k. Next I switched to a Commodore 64 which started my love affair with the mouse as a control scheme. Then I entered the Amiga age and owned an Amiga 500, Amiga 500+ and an Amiga 1200.

Finally when it was inevitable that the Amiga was destined to die (thanks Commodore you twats), I hopped on board with my first PC a Penitum 75mhz. Since that time I have made my way through 6 versions of the PC.

I have tried console gaming and I just can't "like" it. I hate the joypad with a passion and so I game exclusively on the PC.
 
I had a commodore 64 and never had an atari. I had a 286 before I ever got a nintendo. My first self bought console was the Dreamcast at launch.
 
I started on PC, as early as the magic school bus games on some ancient computer. Then to Age of Empires games, then I went over to the console side, GameCube/GBA/X360/PS3/Wii. Been back to mainly PC since 2010. Though I want to play more on my 2DS and Nintendo stuff. Maybe an XB1 if a revision drops or something.
 
Started playing lots of shareware games when I was three-four years old. I had a Windows 3.1 IBM machine at home, too bad most of diskettes are damaged. I think the only thing that works is Commander Keen.
