A couple of months ago, there was a thread on here called I'm Going to Make Music and You Can Too. In which musicians from pretty much every genre around, pledged to make album. It was a great process where people shared works in progress, advice and encouragement. In the thread, an idea struck up about a GAF compilation album. A couple months later and here we are.

If you want in it's simple. Contribute 1-2 songs for the project by May 17th (although this deadline is subject to change). They can be any length and any genre.

It doesn't matter if you're a first timer or years into it, any submissions are welcome. Hopefully, much like our last big musical project, this can be a place of constructive feedback and advice from fellow musicians

I made this thread not only for general discussion of the tape. But for suggestions as well. There are still many logistical gaps we have to fill. Do we release it for free or for charity? What will the artwork be like? And so on. So feel free to make suggestions on that as well.

If you're down. Simply post and i'll put a list up in the OP. Good luck and happy music making!

I can find 1-2 songs on my HDD :) Never finished the album but that I can do. They will be crappy though.

Aww yiss.

I'll probably remake a track that was on the EP I produced in the thread mentioned and also have a fresh one.

On the subject of money and whatnot, I sorta liked a pay-what-you-want method with maybe a bigger half going to charity. Sorta Humble Bundle style.

Is this for pros?

I'd be in, but would not want to bring down the quality.

We used to do GAME, and that went very well for a few years

Can this be previously released material? As in something I've had up on Soundcloud for a while that I can throw in?

I'm probably going to be doing a medley for an upcoming album myself.

How are we going to handle overall mastering?

I don't think there will be any overall mastering. It'll be up to the producers individually to master their works their own way. Assigning a single person to do it would probably take weeks. I think our own mastering sorta speaks to our style as much as the layers of sound we put into the song. Freedom to choose to master your own track or seek out someone to do it for you (who you think can master it to your satisfaction).

General volume though... that's definitely important. Consistent volume from song to song is pretty much essential.

For consistent volume, something like MP3Gain might be a good thing to use, perhaps.

As far as general volume, I could do it no problem in a week (at about 19 songs, I love mastering stuff), but if it gets too big I'd say something extremely quick.

Definitely agree about individual mastering, maybe we can decide on whoever knows they have no outlet for it? A quick couple of waves plugins on a track really isn't that big of a deal for a good ear.

While I would love to be a part of it, I'm not too sure if I could really contribute something by May 6th, so I'm just going to subscribe to the thread instead.

Good luck everyone! :)

I wish I could sing/compose/produce. All I can do is write though. I'll ghost write for some of you guys!
or co write if you want to get politically correct

Now find someone who can sing and I'll compose something out of it!
Spoiler my music will not be very good.

Now that I think about it, we should totally do some composer/songwriter/singer collaboration, where random people from each category are thrown together. Now that would be fucking fun :D

Bandcamp won't allow mp3's, so wav/FLAC files are ideal

You can send them to my email (ekochamber@gmail.com) or just post them here and i'll download them.

Well, here's the two tracks I'm submitting:

"Smooth Solar Sailing"

This is a house electronic piece, partially inspired by Tron: Legacy. I'd say it fits in well with the Gaming theme of GAF.

The next one is called "Dusk 'Til Dawn", which is a more orchestral piece in itself, and I'd say it'd fit in good near the end, because, quite simply, the end section is one of the favorite things I've made so far. These are probably 2 of the 3 pieces I'm most proud of.

I would love to do a track.

I think you should provide a guide track for people to follow or aim for level.

We went thru this for GAME, people all have different crest factors and what not, and someone trying to force everything to the same perceptual level, was difficult.

I am finding some old stuff from years ago that I did, and I have been trying to do them with modern sounds. Very simple stuff. Pretty amateurish.

I need to make music--I couldn't make the full album my thread was intended for, but hopefully I can do a song or two by then.

I'd participate but I'm only a few months into attempting to make tracks. I'm a hardcore noob, had some Electrvibe stuff I toyed with in the late 90's and have only started toying with DAW's over the last 6months.
I put these 3 tracks together over the last 5 or 6 weeks..

I got another 20 or so ideas on my Soundcloud page with these tracks but these are the only "finished" things I have so far...and thier not very good I know...but I'm learning! Even tho I'm not prob good enough to be on a tape yet some opinion/advice/input would be great from you pros.

I just want to make sure this doesn't bury too far to lose potential.

I was thinking of bumping the original GAME threads... I dunno maybe a friendly competition ?

Thoughts?

The original GAME threads (based on my last perusing of them) sort of faded into obscurity because the master-rer stopped replying for a while and the final one (GAME 7?) never really fell through. I don't think it'd be in the spirit of the originals trying to reincarnate it. imo, if this one kicks off, TGT or THEGAFTAPE or whatever it ends up getting called as a "franchise" can be the new GAME rather than trying to ride the heels of the original.

Just a quick bump to see how everyone is getting on. I've got my two tracks done.

Reminder that the current deadline for submissions is May 6th

Subbed. I'm absolutely in. I'll put in a track at the very least. This is a great idea.

I suppose a PM deadline reminder for all artists would be out of the question? Like a week before submissions are due?

If you want a live recording of a cigar box guitar instrumental jam session that I'll apply a random name to, you got it....or two of them if I feel like it.

I've got a pair of tracks down, they just need proper mixing and mastering.

Here's a preview of one, which is a lot slower and shorter (~3.5 minutes).
Needs compression, reverb adjustments, panning adjustments, level adjustments, and other general tweaks, possible change of synths and/or drum samples in certain areas. Overall, it's filling the emotion I want it to have. Feedback absolutely welcome.

That sounds good! I do miss some of the guys though, it was cool because it actually worked for quite awhile and we all learned a lot thru it. I was thinking along the lines of 'getting the band back together', but no one has shown up here...

YO dell, add me to your list man! :)

I'm not so sure about how my track is going, but it's going.

Damn I think I need more time. I had a crash and lost stuff. But whatever, it might sound better if I start over anyways. I got 6 free days to work on this by the 6th.
