Speculation: New Battletoads game incoming on Xbox One?

This is just pure speculation, but in the Kinect Sports Rivals review info guide i found this screen.

Now, i know that the in-game Battletoads costume was some sort of preorder bonus for a retailer (Gamestop if i remember correctly), yet this background seems more than suspicious to me...
Did they create that art (that also kinda look 3dish) just for the sake of it? Or might it be an asset taken straight from an upcoming, unnanounced title? E3 surprise reveal?
What do you guys say?
Discuss. :P

If by some miracle they do make a new Battletoads(doubtful), I hope they don't look like that. So ugly.

I totally buy it.

Seems like a little too much effort and focus for a one-retailer, pre-order bonus for a game that a lot of people won't even play.

I think they are using this as a bit of a test bed and trying to drum up some nostalgia for the inevitavle E3 reveal.

I wouldn't get your hopes up, but I think them acknowledging Battletoad's existence is a good sign at least. I could see them bringing it back as a smaller digital game eventually. It would be a cool Killer Instinct style nostalgia bomb at E3.

Also consider that this background was NEVER showed in the promotional materials for Gamestop.

This was what they showed:

To me, it's the indication of something...

Dont get your hopes up too high OP. Although I would love to see MS revive some of the old N64 IPs. Hopefully Phil knows how well received KI was by the gaming community. That was a step in the right direction

I doubt it. Two of those faces are just a copy-paste job;I doubt they'd put this little effort into anything that was more than a throwaway, fan service type deal.

A bit off topic but i wish we could get a resurgence of scrolling 'beat em ups'.
I think Streets of Rage, Battle Toads, Turtles in Time style games with current high end graphics would be so cool.
Just pack them full of moves and have 4 player coop and they would be fun as hell.

I sure hope not. Those character models look worse than fanart I've seen on deviantART. Just let Rare die in peace and sell the IPs to Nintendo or something.

I remember someone on twitter awhile ago asked Phil Spencer what his favorite Rare game was. He replied Battletoads. So who knows. Maybe now that he's in charge we'll actually get one?

I want to believe..as long as it's 2D, no kinect and the toads don't look like that.

Just give it to an indie studio like Sony is doing with some of their IPs and see what happens. Throw them money to support it, release it as a digital $15 game and see how it goes. They need to start doing this a bit more with their older IPs. If they don't have plans of using them with their main studios, farm it out to some indie studio willing to work on it.

The Battletoads in the OP look sorta eerie... I'm not sure I approve. Makes me think of Boogerman, for some reason.

In that case, it's probably best if you don't believe.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were true. It'd probably be more of an XBLA experience than a true console release, so I could definitely see then contracting a developer to make it. It'd be a pretty low risk, and potentially high reward endeavor.

I wouldn't look too much into it. If a new Battletoads is coming though then I couldn't see it being a big retail title. Would more than likely be digital download only.

Actually, this!

Give it to the studio who made Double Dragon Neon and make a new instalment akin to the old games.

This is what they did (and are continuing to do) with Killer Instinct so the precedent is there for MS.

Yesssssss! :D

Yep, and Phil has repetedly said that they are happy with KI's success so far, so I hope they continue to do this with more of their older IPs. I wouldn't even mind them giving Banjo or Conker to another studio if it actually meant it getting made.

When has Sony given one of their IP to an indie studio? Honest question.
