Today we picked up Betty, an 8 week old Boston Terrier puppy. My wife and I have been married for around two and a half years now. Our first pet was Clancy, now two years old, our Siberian Forrest cat. I started a thread on him a while back...

Instead of waiting to introduce the two like I've seen so many recommend we went ahead and did it almost as soon as we brought her home and it went perfectly. Clancy is an awesome cat and never gives us a single problem, so we were pretty sure he would be cool. Betty weighs 4.5 pounds, Clancy is 15, so he's much larger than her for the time being.

Betty is our first inside pet since we got married. Anyone got any advice? On housebreaking her or just about anything else? We have Clancy trained to do all sorts of commands and tricks so I'm sure we'll be fine there with Betty.

Anyone else here own a Boston? Anything we should prepare for?

Here are a few more pictures...

Here is Clancy reacting to watching us walking Betty outside for the first time. We take him out on a leash as well so he was very jealous. After this picture I went inside and picked him up and carried him around and he was perfectly fine with it...

Holy shit.

I want it. Cute levels off the damn charts.

I recently bought a kitten for my sister and I hate the damn thing. I wish I had a dog again, but my lifestyle really isn't right for a dog. It breaks my heart. BREAKS MY HEART.

Thanks guys!

I haven't had a puppy in years so I'm shocked by how much she is sleeping. I guess that's a stupid observation but I didn't realize she would be sleeping so much. Right now she sleeps for a few hours, wakes up to go potty, play for a little while, then goes right back to sleep.

Congrats as a fellow female Boston owner. She will bring you guys years of laughs and joy. We got our girl about the same age and she was pretty easy to train. One thing I would keep an eye on is her skin. Their breed will sometimes have problems with irritation. If you notice her skin breaking out and losing hair, give her one benadryl pill a day. Luckily that has been the only health issue for our dog so far.

Cute as a button! I love Boston Terriers. They're on the short list of specific breeds that I'd look for (assuming I went for a specific breed and not a mutt from the rescue) if I ever decide to get a dog. Probably not until I move.

My God, that first night with her here at home. So tired, either me or my wife was up almost every single hour. I wasn't shocked since I understood the process, but it sure doesn't make it any easier. My wife was especially irked since NOTHING wakes me up I'm such a sound sleeper, so even when it was my turn to take care of her, my wife still had to wake up, then go through the pain of shaking me awake.

Oh my god. I have a boston terrier too. He's 6 now though. So, one thing is that Bostons often have like a weird amount of gas. So you might want to talk to your vet about a special diet... plain yogurt works too if you just give them a bit every day to help them digest. Uh, they're really energetic and playful. I play ball with mine for like 3 hours a day and he could still play more if he wanted. Try to take her to a dog park or some training program to socialize with other dogs and people. If you have any other questions PM me or some shit and I might be able to give advice.
Have fun!

We have an almost 3 year old Boston, you may already be doing this but one of the things that helped us with the sleeping and if we have to leave the house is for her to have her kennel. It is pretty good sized and sits in the corner of the living room. That is 100% her space and our four kids aren't allowed to do anything with that area. It is basically her safe zone. Bedtime now consists of us calling out for her to "kennel up" and she runs right in and we give her a small treat.

Also the sleeping a lot thing is normal particularly for Bostons they sleep a lot with usually a couple of bursts of energy during the day for playtime. They are a companion dog if you guys have kids in the future she should do great. I've got four boys 10, 8(twins) and 6 1/2 and she blended in great with them, will sit with them when they are sick etc.

Congrats on getting a Boston. I've had mine for about 4 years now, he's awesome sleeps alot and passes gas like a 40 year old man. Other then the gas have fun and instead of benadryl we use children's liquid benadryl which he seemed to like better.
