Video explaining differences between full and PS+ versions

PS Blog said:
Last week we announced the release date for PS4’s first socially connected racing game – DRIVECLUB.

The response we’ve seen to the trailer is seriously overwhelming, and it’s time for some more news.

Welcome to the first of three DRIVECLUB updates this week. DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition has been a hot topic since its announce, so today’s video (the first of three) should answer most of your questions about the actual content included in this edition compared to the Blu-ray version.

One of the recurring questions we keep seeing is about the scale of the PlayStation Plus Edition. The simple answer is that with an active PlayStation Plus subscription, you can download DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition, which comes with one location (India), 11 tracks, 10 cars and access to all game modes.

But why did we choose to offer this particular selection of the game to PlayStation Plus subscribers for free?

DRIVECLUB is inherently next gen. It’s about accessibility for all and building a community of gamers who love online play. DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition is designed to be a quick and easy way for gamers all over the world to join the DRIVECLUB community. You can take part in all the game modes, set, send and compete in challenges, and race online against others in the DRIVECLUB community.

We think you’ll have a lot of fun playing DRIVECLUB once it launches on October 7th, digitally via the PlayStation store and on Blu-ray at your local retailer. If you’re an active PlayStation Plus subscriber and have been playing the PlayStation Plus Edition, but decide you want the full DRIVECLUB experience, you can purchase a one-time upgrade for $49.99. This will give you access to all five locations, 55 tracks, 50 cars and all 50 tour events, as long as your PlayStation Plus subscription remains active.

If you’re not an active PlayStation Plus member, you can still get DRIVECLUB via the PlayStation Store or your local retailer on Blu-ray.

Stay tuned because there’s more content coming tomorrow with the ‘Clubs’ video, explaining why they’re crucial to making DRIVECLUB distinctly different.

Friday’s episode is all about challenges – why we love ‘em, what they give you and importantly, how they’ll make the game infinitely more networked and fun to play in your Club.

Over and out.

that's not bad. sounds like you lose access to the full game though if PLUS expires, so if I like the game I'll probably just buy it full retail rather than upgrading.

So, PS+ subscribers get $10 discount on a full game. I kinda expected that.

5 countries, 55 tracks, 50 cars. More than enough.

So full game has 55 tracks, almost 11 times the PS+ version and yet they say PS+ edition is almost full game minus few tracks and cars.
Edit - 11 tracks. Hmm still could have been more.

$50 dollars for the upgrade, but it expires if you let PS+ expire? That seems insane.

No. If you ever purchase a game, you keep it, regardless of PS+ discount.
Only free games require sustained PS+ subscription.
It's always been like this.

Edit:
Re-read.
Wow. That's bullshit.
Something sounds really, REALLY wrong.

one-time upgrade for $49.99. This will give you access to all five locations, 55 tracks, 50 cars and all 50 tour events, as long as your PlayStation Plus subscription remains active

That's a rip off.

Read it again...

PS+ version is handicapped obviously, but if I enjoy it enough and want more I can get a $10 discount on the full version. Cool, I guess?

5 times the tracks. Each country has 11 tracks. The PS+ Edition includes all of India which is 11 tracks. But, yeah, still not "minus a few tracks and cars".

is the decals stamps in the video actually representative of how much tracks and cars we are receiving

That's not what the details say:

This seems to be an exception to the rule for some bizarre reason.

EDIT: Beaten

Yeah, that's some bullshit. When you buy a game with a PS+ discount (which would be $10 in this case, which is ok) you get to keep it even when your sub is over.

Not like I'm going to let it run out any time soon, but it's stupid. I hope they change their mind on this.

1. 50 cars seems kind of paltry
2. 55 tracks? more like 20 tracks plus variations of those tracks
3. if you let your ps+ subscription expire, do you get your free games back when you resubscribe?

I don't know if they mean the one-time upgrade is only available if you have an active Plus subscription, or do they mean you lose the full version if your Plus expires. The latter sounds insane indeed.

Wonder if ps+ edition will be $50 in Canada

The expiring part is weird but if your sub lapses in a year you'll probably be able to get the disc version cheaply anyways, if so inclined. They know many will keep + for the multi which is a heavy focus for driveclub anyways.

Yes, you get access to everything you previously had access to, but if you missed any free game deals while your subscription remained inactive then you can't retroactively get those.

Exception to this is any content you buy on sale that received a further PS+ discount. So if you paid money out of pocket for anything, whether it's DLC or full games, you keep it after the PS+ subscription expires.

Except for this full edition upgrade of Driveclub. I've no clue why. It's a horrible stipulation that makes no sense.

Yes you do get your games back.

I was about to say something about there only being 50 cars but then I realized that I remember reading that this was supposed to be one of Sony's biggest DLC games(or some shit like that).

Technically you`re not buying the game, you`re buying 4 worlds + 44 tracks etc.

Hm you might be right.

Then they're totally insane. $50 for a game you don't even own is beyond ridiculous especially considering there will be a retail version which will certainly be cheaper within months (if not sooner)

This is a glorified demo. Absolutely a bummer honestly.

The $50 upgrade as long as you have PS Plus seems like DriveClub might be an online only game.. so it would make sense that you'd "lose" it if you didn't have an active PS Plus subscription.

Would suck if true.
