After 133 weeks PS Vita and Vita TV combined have finally suprassed 3,000,000 units sold in Japan according to the media create tracker.

Here is a comparison to that of other hardware in Japan:
Race to 3m (Media Create)

Wii 33 weeks
NDS 39 weeks
3DS 42 weeks
PSP 63 weeks
PS3 127 weeks
Vita 133 weeks

We don't have pre-2003 Media Create figures, but on Famitsu

GBA 25 weeks
PS2 42 weeks
Gamecube 121 weeks

Freedom Wars also had the second biggest opening week of any Vita software in Japan. Here are the top 5 according to Famitsu:

1. God Eater 2 - 258,826
2. Freedom Wars - 187,890
3. Hatsune Miku Project Diva f - 158,009
4. Persona 4 The Golden - 152,499
5. Sword Art Online Hollow Fragment - 136,736

Still waiting on them to unleash Kancolle Vita and the Love Live: School Idol Project games (hopefully Love Live's graphics have been updated since the last time we saw them) for a further boost for the Vita.

Up until now it sold very slowly, but PSVita will be a late bloomer. EVERYONE wants a Vita, some people just don't know it yet.

I was looking at Love Live S2 sales for the first BD recently.... WTF! It was close to 100k.

I never realised Love Live had become so monstrous in so little time. Kancolle Vita and Love Live Vita should be quite a boost to Vita.

Bullet Girl would be a great boost as well. We've seen how Senran helped Vita *w*.

Imagine what this could be if it were a real Monster Hunter game and not a clone.

Kudos to Sony though, I love the Vita and want to see continued support. Now please implement multiple accounts per hardware so I can setup a JP account without doing a bunch of memory card gymnastics!

As an aside, the PS3 hit 10 million in this exact week too.

Imagine what this could be if it were a real Monster Hunter game and not a clone.

Freedom Wars is kind of a TPS x MH hybrid, it's certainly less of a clone than the other ones. But yeah I know what you mean.

I really hope Gravity Rush 2 is not the end of first party Vita support. God damnit; can it really be that hard to get small teams in Japan Studio working on Dark Cloud 3, The Adventures of Alundra 2, Wild Arms (reboot), Parappa the Rapper, The Legend of Dragoon, etc. They make so much sense being smaller projects on the Vita, and I think they would really appeal to the global market, and specifically Japan.

Good for the Vita in Japan, but how is it compared to the US numbers?? US still doesn't get some PS Vita exclusives from Japan.

None of those games would be small projects at all, nor would any of them likely sell well in Japan.

I believe Aqua or somebody else with access to NPD data said that Vita hadn't sold close to 2million in the US earlier this year.

Imagine what this could be if it were real good games, regardless of being Monster Hunter clones. I am still waiting for a game that is as good as Monster Hunter in this genre.

I wonder if Japanese gamers know they can get many vita games on steam? Probably not.

I hear this alot

Think about the path to the games if you have neither?

As great as PC is there is a level of convenience, connected community, and obviously portability.

Not to mention the intimate and comfortable nature of the Vita.

There are merits to both platforms when playing said games and it would be nice if those merits were represented accurately on both sides

I would say Soul Sacrifice Delta comes the closest in quality

Freedom Wars also looks VERY promising.

holiday 2012 Vita sales was one of the worst for any system

Vita 2012

{12/3/2012 - 12/9/2012} 10.348/1.026.491
{12/10/2012 - 12/16/2012} 13.590/1.040.081
{12/17/2012 - 12/23/2012} 19.056/1.059.137
{12/24/2012 - 12/30/2012} 18.022/1.077.159

Xbox 360 2006

{12/4/2006 - 12/10/2006} 38.096/233.372
{12/11/2006 - 12/17/2006} 19.211/252.583
{12/18/2006 - 12/24/2006} 18.942/271.525
{12/25/2006 - 12/31/2006} 18.942/290.467

Unbelievable how bad it used to sell in 2012.

This is why I think it would be better for software developers to re-release their Vita games as PSN titles on PS3/PS4. Just kill it and move on.

A slow burner. I bet it'll take ps4 much longer. A half decent user base for this platform in jpn now, hopefully it'll lead to lots and lots of japanese niche goodness

A) I mean smaller specifically compared to a PS4 or PS3 project, and B) I'm not talking about making all of them huge 3D affairs. Alundra and Parappa should retain the 2D visuals of their predecessors (or stylised 3D, in the case of Parappa), Wild Arms should probably stay 2D as well outside of the battles, and I think Japan would still appreciate a proper JRPG like the original TLoD. Dark Cloud would probably be the most expensive there, but they can't cheap out too much as the entries on PS2 were quite luxuriant. Sprite work is so good these days that they don't need to be huge 3D blockbusters on the Vita, like Uncharted or Freedom Wars.

Vita doubled in sales from last week per the Media Create thread. Hope this is a good sign.
