Good robot/post apocalyptic themed anime?

I was revisiting some old anime on YouTube earlier mostly for nostalgia sake like Fist of the North Star (it's entertaining damn't) and Battle Angel, and am thinking of rewatching Otomo's Metropolis again later. Was hoping anime gaf could give me some good recommendations on robot and/or post apocalyptic themed anime. Something about those that's just so addicting. So what ya got for me?

I think an obvious choice for robot would definately be the Ghost in the Shell stuff. Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex is pretty good.

Ergo Proxy is pretty stark and dystopian though it's kinda slow.

Pale Coccon was really cool and short. Looks good for an indie CG film and the art design/concepts are amazing.

There's also the Mardock Scramble movies. I thought the first one was okay, but the two sequels (which I haven't seen) apparently are not that good.

SaiKano is also really good, but focuses heavily on the main romance and is depressing as FUCK. Now and Then, Here and There is also really dark and depressing as all hell.

I'd also throw in Space Battleship Yamato 2199 (AnimeGAF's 2013 Anime Series of the Year) for being almost completely flawless, though it's more space opera than strictly post-apocalyptic. You should watch it anyways.

Turn A Gundam, though that's more post-post apocalypse than anything. Gundam X has the premise of being a Post-apocalypse Gundam series, but it doesn't really do much with it.

Well aliens instead of robots and modern times instead of apocalypic future but damn it, if it isn't spectacular.

Casshern Sins is both. That'll save you some time.

The world is so dead that even the post-apocalyptic robots are dying. To avoid death, robots seek to devour the flesh of the main character, Casshern, a near-invincible cyborg. There's also a robot dog.

Gurren Lagann technically is a post apocalyptic robot anime, but it doesn't really take the tone of most post apocalyptic things. Its the best so you should watch it anyways.

Casshern Sins sounds like what you want, it has robots and apocalypse.

I can't tell you if it's any good though, the art style has been putting me off from watching past episode 2.

I like it when they chant "Kill Casshern" though

This. It covers both. It's a modern reimagining of an Tatsunoko cartoon. Casshern himself is playable in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom.

Also I need to finish this as I've owned it since last year.

.

The first one really reminded me of Armitage. And then the second and third came and they were more like chlichéd actionmovies... with some gambling thrown into it.
IIRC the end of the second and the beginning of the third movie had like 20 minutes of gambling involved..

Postapocalytpic:

Hokuto no Ken, of course.

Humanity is left planetless in the far future and continues its hopeless war in space, against the aliens that ousted them. However, this horrific, martial reality of life that is all a young mecha cadet knows will soon be conflicted after a freak accident...

Pretty entertaining culture-clash tale. Sometimes gets a bit fan-servicey (ok, quite a bit), but the overall show was great for a distraction and thoughtfully too. It's on Crunchyroll, I think.

Yeah, this is my suggestion.

(Protip: DO NOT watch it all at once. Seriously.)
