Ask me about the GAF Notebook
CMR is out for iOS and Android, and I copped the Android version today since it was on sale from $4.99 down to $1.99.
As far as the game goes it's sort of a remastered port of Colin McRae Rally 2 though I've heard not as much content. Visually the game looks like they put the old game in HD but everything else is the same ie geometry and lighting etc... from the PS2 days.
Control wise you have two options. You can two hand touch with left and right steer on left and gas brake ebrake on the right or you can do tilt controls to steer. I opted to do touchscreen controls which aren't that bad compared to a lot of on screen button controls. Helps that it isn't a virtual dpad/joystick and rather just left and right buttons to steer.
Menus seem well put together presentation wise, and the in game UI isn't bad either. I was playing on my Nexus 7 and the UI didn't get in the way on the race. Game ran just OK in terms of fps. Had some noticable slowdown in spots, but nothing game breaking for me. Physics model for the car felt like old school era CMR vs say CMR 2004 or 2005.
Ran through the Australia race which was split into 6 individual races. Game auto picked my car for me in the Ford Focus. You got to run 2 legs and then you could repair. It was all time trials with a CPU meter up top to compare how you were doing vs the leader. I was playing on the beginner level since it was the start of the campaign so I came in 1st on all legs despite my suckatude. I imagine I'll have to do much better on the later stages.
Beyond that can't say much more. Game doesn't appear to have online modes, and I'm not sure how much content unlocks.
I'd give it a 3½ stars out of 5 for the price of $1.99 with no IAP. If you have to pay $4.99 I'd pass, but if you are a rally fan I'd say get it while on sale.
