Did Guardians Of The Galaxy show you what avenues Mass Effect 4 can take?

I've been very cautious regarding ME4. I adored the trilogy (outside of the ending), I enjoyed the military themes, I enjoyed the serious tone and missions that surrounded your role in the galaxy. But the movie definitely showed me what other avenues you can take for a space opera. I still hope to command my own ship and have my own team, but the military angle isn't as necessary anymore. I now hope the game has a bit more humor too!

It didn't take GotG to show me how goddamn awesome an open game where you're a space bounty hunter would be since I knew that from the start, though it helped.

It made me realize how awesome it would be for BioWare to make a Guardians of the Galaxy game instead of Mass Effect.

no, the irreverent space opera thing has been done to death

they should do a serious game like KOTOR 2 was and just get Chris Avellone to write everything

BioWare's writers are horrible

There wasnt enough different types of sexual relationships or gender representations to suit the style or direction Bioware is looking to take their games (which is an alien banging simulator first, and a streamlined derivative of Kotor second).

All Guardians of the Galaxy did in terms of games.... made me really want a good Guardians of the Galaxy game. Didn't Marvel say they weren't making cash in games anymore and that everything from this point onward would kick ass? Because I want a really good game of this.

What avenues are you referring to?

Species of aliens?
Interesting villain?
Military forces?
Abandoned planets with ancient artifacts?
Howard the Duck
?

Yes, yes, more SERIOUS games because we don't have enough of those.

And space opera in general is barely done at all in video games, so I don't see how a specific type could be overdone.

The tone of Mass Effect and Guardians have nothing in common, nor do their approaches to sci-fi. To change that would be to create a different series IMO.

For real

I honestly can't believe many of these developers haven't thought of the whole space pirate/hunter type of character.

That whole space marine setup is getting old as fuck

The military theme was never necessary, and frankly I'm wondering why it's infecting so many genres now. We're post-post-9/11 so I'm hoping it goes away.

forget that

we need a game in the metroid universe where you're actually a bounty hunter and not tied down by an arbitrary "alone on a planet" trope

Guardians of the Galaxy is extremely similar to Farscape. Bioware has already been heavily drawing inspiration from shows like Farscape, Stargate, and Battlestar Galactica, so I don't think GotG really changes the Mass Effect equation much.

It's a great movie, and funny. But Star Lord is basically Crichton, Groot is similar to Zaan, what's his name with the knives is similar to D'argo, Rygel and Rocket are pretty different but are equally small in stature and large in comic relief, and Aeryn and the green girl aren't that different either. Similar art styles too. Star Lord's costume literally looks almost exactly like Crichton's, and they both have ships and hold on to Earth through pop-culture references that no one else gets.

They will probably draw inspiration from GotG too, but that won't change a whole lot.

If you're a GotG fan and haven't seen Farscape, you should check it out.

Guardians of the Galaxy knew its characters and wrote a fantastic script with some excellent dialogue.

Hats off to that team.

I literally have no faith in modern Bioware on delivering anything near that level.

Y'know, I noticed the Star Lord/Crichton reference. But the Aeryn Gamora thing slipped my mind. I was a little bugged because GotG kinda ignores a lot of comic book lore, but I wanted to like it anyway because it was so freaking funny. This comparison helps a LOT.

Man, I loved Farscape.

The next Star Fox should be more like GotG instead of whatever Miyamoto's working on right now.

Actually, co-signed. The new Star Fox sounds like it's going to end up being "artsy" in a way that pisses people off but no one will admit it until 10 years later because it's a Miyamoto game.

Won't be able to see Guardians for another month, but I would kill for a Pacific Rim kinda game. It was one of the few (action) movies I actually felt invested in.

The time jumps, the little things like Kaijū action figures and the black market. Really loved what del Toro did with those things to make the universum feel real.

Mass effect citadel dlc kinda have the light hearted humorous tone that guardians have, they should go all in with that vibe imo, ditch the military angle, and be the captain of your own mercenary ship. Take jobs from military or villain etc.

Instead of banging your crew member, you go to different planets banging a lot of different people, 1 character each in a planet. Lol

'What Mass Effect can learn from Guardians of the Galaxy'

If more humour could result in more comedy gold for my renegade I'd be all for it.

*kicks out of elevator shaft*

Remember when they forgot there was a plot and made Mass Effect 2? That was pretty awesome. I agree that just flying around being some kind of space cop/bounty hunter/whatever team would be awesome.

Thinking about Mass Effect during Guardians of the Galaxy would have been like thinking of your mother in law during a porno.

...but yes, the humor and heart, creativity, lack of gravitas and palatable military-force protocol would be nice to see in a game like that.

Guardias of the Galaxy doesn't remind me of Mass Effect. I think it's kind of weird how it does to other people, because it's obviously inspired by Star Wars and Mass Effect is a lot more like Star Trek than Star Wars.

I like the lore of N7. I'm glad they are sticking with it. If you want to play as a bounty hunter, i would suggest backing Star Citizen.

The Mass Effect universe is so small and limited, don't get how is reminds folks of GOTG. Other than being in space.

When did Fox News get an account on GAF?

I would definitely like to see something lighter in tone from my sci-fi RPG. On paper at least, in practice Bioware humor is usually very robotic and cringe-inducing.
