MIND: Path of Thalamus is filled with beautiful moments; moments where the visual design, the excellent soundtrack, the writing and the shifts in the landscape around you will leave you in awe. The production is of very high quality throughout and it is a journey you will not soon forget. The puzzles are elegant, fun to solve and logical. In the five hours it took me to complete the game I saw many different locations and conditions, and they were all beautiful.

MIND: Path of Thalamus is not just the best puzzle game I've played this year, its one of the best games of the year so far. The atmosphere will immerse you and you'll always want to see what comes next. Do yourself a favour and play this as soon as you can. It is spectacular.

Graphically, the game is amazing – I don’t think I’ve played a puzzle game where I was more into exploring the map then actually completing the task at hand. The lighting is wonderful and it really adds to the immersion aspect while you are playing, however I did feel that some levels looked a bit bland and empty. From dark, eerie-feeling tunnels to wide open and jaw dropping valleys, Path to Thalamus really makes you appreciate the capabilities of an open mind and the creative aspects that can be molded into it.

As you can gather from the title, Mind: Path to Thalamus takes place within the player-character’s mind as he navigates his regrets and failings. As a concept, it works pretty well and definitely has potential to be very moving. Its execution however is the game’s greatest downfall. Falling into the trap of other indie games attempting to deal with serious topics, it doesn’t trust the player to figure out the story for his/herself. Instead, you are subjected to the character’s non-stop monologuing.

It isn’t necessarily the talking itself that is the problem, but rather it’s the poorly written and painfully on-the-nose text which comes across like a 14 year old’s diary. Thankfully, you can turn off subtitles, turn down the volume, and pretend it’s not there, and it doesn’t take away from the experience at all.

At the end of the day, Mind: Path of Thalamus is a solid puzzle game that is well worth a playthrough. It’s challenging enough that you won’t blow through it, but quite accessible once you figure out the basics. Along with that, its laid-back pace and beautiful environments make for a great experience. Narration aside, this game is as put-together and well-designed as just about anything else you can find in the indie space. Here’s hoping it finds an audience because I’d like to see what else Coronado has up his sleeve.

The game surely starts out with a bang. So far, getting an Alan Wake (tornado)/Max Payne (walk down a narrow line) psychological thriller vibe.

And this is like 10 minutes in.

Probably one of the prettiest games on Unreal. This is running great on a laptop with crappy Intel HD chip, so most laptops should be good with it. I got to go to sleep now.

I feel like this game would be much improved if there was a way to shut off the narration but leave the rest of the music/sounds intact.

Some of the line readings are not so great, but overall I like the execution. I'm more bothered that apostrophes are glitched out and replaced with rectangles lol. That would be a nice bonus, though.

Really surprised by the launch trailer, the initial trailer made me think it was literally just going to be about walking around very pretty/strange situations.

I'm waiting for the PS4 version, but I hope people update the thread with impressions, I'd like to know just how much 'game' is here.

this game is fucking ace and it's the best thing since Antichamber and Portal.

Ok I'm stuck at the railroad...like the very first puzzle...

What am I missing?
I started it last night. The narrative is doing nothing for me, but the visual design is quite striking.

Exactly how I feel. Bought it for the graphics unashamedly.

So I keep reading that the writing and voiceover work is bad. Someone on the steam forums posted a way to turn these off and I'm still not sure if I should. Am I missing out on anything by turning it off?

I'm sure you've solved this by now, but just in case you haven't... walk to the various objects scattered around the map. You will notice that your environment changes in a particular area. That should give you an idea on how to proceed.
