Destiny is officially the "most pre-ordered new IP in gaming history", 1+ million

I always find these statements ridiculous after the infamous" Too Human has 3 million pre orders" from way back in the day.

Bungie's clearly got a massive hit on it's hands and cuddling up to playstation nation was without a doubt the right move for them. By all accounts the game seems very good and also maybe lacking in exploratory content with the intention of selling great piles of dlc. I'll wait for reviews and maybe even longer before I open my wallet.

I don't know why people act like their money is being held hostage. Preorders can be cancelled at the drop of a hat.

Congrats. Destiny looks interesting for an FPS.

Congrats...about that December expansion though, kinda early for an "expansion" don't ya think?

If anything, I think they are more like DLC's that are supposed to release before the big ''Comet'' expansion comes in a year after release.

Some people thought that the two DLC's were the ''Comet'' expansion, but I have a hunch that a ''Comet'' expansion will come on Fall 2015.

Bungie isn't one to get comfortable with issues and stuff they can fix so if the game is massively successful that's awesome for them as they'll be able to move out of the shadow of halo and people will trust them more with new ips. Not to mention destiny 2 fixing most issues with the first one. Congrats bungie.

Such a gross stat to brag about.

There was a thread (or a post maybe) on the over use of the words "gross" and "disgusting" on this forum and I gotta wonder...why is this so frequently used out of context now?

I don't want to sound salty, but how many new IPs are released for 4 platforms at the same time?

Watch_Dogs was this year. Although that had way better sales on the new consoles I think. Wonder if this situation will be similar?

He means gross, as in it grossed a lot of money.

These types of games, you can just feel how big they are. Everyone I know that is even moderately a gamer is buying Destiny.

I want this game delivered to my house on release day, and it costs me nothing to do this through amazon. What's the problem?

The mentality of the games industry to try more and more to have consumers pay for stuff far before delivering on the content. A few years ago, people were fine with it when it was literally just preordering a game. But with DLC season passes and now subscription services, it's becoming a bit ridiculous.

Jim Sterling covered it in his latest video.

But Amazon pre-orders are free?

Just because some retailers have shitty pre-order practices, doesn't mean the concept is bad.

Glad to see that Bungie is still kicking ass and staying relevant. I just wish I actually cared about Destiny. Looks like nothing special to me!

This is exactly what I'm doing, I haven't even paid for anything yet. I agree with you 100% on DLC content and season passes, but that's not what this thread is about at all.

Gaming isn't about having fun and playing games. It's about sending a message to greedy publishers and exercising your rights as a consumer.
