So "memes" have been pretty profilerate around the internet for a while now. I was having a conversation with a co-worker about them and he said they're pronounced "meem," with the 'e' silient.

Now, I had always heard "me-me," like "me, me," to connote the highly personal and often self-referential meanings behind memes. I contend this is the more worthwhile pronunciation.

Mods, could I kindly request a poll on this?

I searched but didn't see any prior discussion of this. Please post your favorite "me-me" if old.

Meme is pronounced "meem". Rhymes with theme.

I had a friend who called memes "may-mays" and I wanted to cut off my ears whenever she said it. Reminds me of a 50 year old person trying to say Pokémon or something.

Seems like the right place to ask. Do French people use the word "meme" the way we are using it here? B/C that word has a different meaning in French.

Also, it's pronounced "meem".

Meem.

I think Richard Dawkins coined the term. Or maybe I'm just insane and made that fact up

EDIT: it was Dawkins. I'm so smart!
