Head of PS France: Mistake comes from DC Code, not servers.

Finally an honest answer? Maybe we'll know the truth someday.

"in the coding of the game driveclub , a mistake has been made preventing enough people to play at the same time.... This is being re-programmed but it takes a lot more time than simply add 1000,2000,3000 servers.... we need more than a simple patch, the problem resides in the code and the way the network accepts sessions.... I have no idea when it will be solved".

I'm kinda thinking every game with a huge, new sort of online system like this, destiny etc, should have a brief but public beta so they can actually stress test this stuff. Too many big releases plagued with this stuff, not all of them are EA's fault anymore, either.

So really Evolution aren't in the good books right now. This is all such a cluster. I had a feeling given the year delay that it might be more to do with the game than servers, especially since Destiny has held up so well.

Amazing that a studio like Evo was even selling it's social experience as something new or innovative, when it's been going on for years, and that after that they can't even deliver on it.

We already knew this, the game director said in a couple of tweets detailing it was not a hardware issue but rather a software one.

What's even more amazing is that people still like the game and want to experience the full vision that the studio has for the game, it overall a really sad of unfortunate events. A lesson for everybody.

They delayed the game for so long, but still made this mistake... Sucks for everyone who waited for this and wanted to play online immediately.

Maybe they should have delayed the game instead of releasing an unfinished product. Oh wait, they already did for nearly a year.

Maybe Sony should have kept Studio Liverpool instead of Evolution.

so, they rewrite the code (or portions of it) for a game thats already out. is that even possible?

i heard they did extensive (closed) beta testing, i guess the bug only kicked in once an x amount of players is online/contacting the servers?

Yep. This is why they are completely rewriting their netcode and this is something that you can't do and release in a few days.

Assuming the mistake was the fault of one of the programmers. I don't think he is staying at Evolution.

... or they stay because they will never make the same mistake again :)

If it was broken lines of code or new values required i think they would have patched most of them by now. This sounds more like a problem with the design of the network code which is probably trickier to pull out, redesign and plug back in again.

Goddamn, that sucks. Feel bad for everyone involved, consumers and developers alike, only going to get worse as the weeks go on.

They already have a year of Season Pass content laid out. I don't think they're going anywhere for the immediate future.
Well... its not like Sony is gonna keep them for the DLC. They can always outsource it so some other studio (or their own internal ones)

Just saying.

Man, i feel sorry for evolution. This game has such a cluster fuck for launch. I fear there are going to be lay offs. It must be hell for programmers in charge of the netcode.

Evolution did great last gen with Motorstorm, and I've had a good bit of fun with Drive Club but, yeah, it seems like someone gave a junior engineer the wheel when they shouldn't have.

Evo will have one and only one another chance to shine with this game :

They need to sort this online problem ASAP and release the PS+ Version at the same time the weather patch is deployed.

If everything works as expected at that exact moment, people will be mercifull

Man even though I'm not happy from consumer side I feel for Evo devs right now. They messed up but it does seem to have slipped through normal Beta and simulated stress tests meaning this very public fixing of the issue which has to be hell for them.

Thats not how it goes.
Other Studios would have to get familiar with the code before doing anything.
Not like they have to fire everyone.

They can keep some people who are familiar with the code and let them lead the DLC development.

This is probably just a stupid theory. Also don't get the wrong idea. I am not one of the guys screaming for the head of Evolution Studios for this mistake :)

Well, would be about time now for that patch. Patch in a tiny bit of extra AA while you're at it ;P. Game will be borderline realistic without jaggies.

For all the people saying "I thought this was obvious" and "I thought everybody knew this", I encourage you to look through the Yoshida Driveclub delay thread sometime. Now imagine the sentiment multiplied in other parts of the internet where people don't have much of a grasp on the situation. This needed to be said.

I'm enjoying the game and I'm glad I gave it a go. But this is quite the cluster fuck. I remember reading that the reason why they delayed the game in the first place was because of the social interface and that it wasn't working with the game. And now it seems that problem hasn't really been fixed, a year later. Don't quote me on this but I'm sure that's what I remember seeing in an interview.
