• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

So, Shadow of Mordor came out on 360/PS3 today. Seems pretttttty bad.

I went to pick up GTAV on PS4 today and while I was at the store I noticed, oh hey, Shadow of Mordor came out on 360 and PS3. Right, those versions exist. Completely forgot about them.

Got curious and looked up for PS3 footage on Youtube a few minutes ago (I just got home).

Phewwwww-boy guys, look at this video of the PS3 version. Specifically about 7min45sec and forward

I mean, I didn't expect that it would be great but this seems really janky. If anyone happens to be on the fence about this version maybe watch that video first. Yikes.

Dear god that's awful. PS2 quality lighting, load times from the C64. And the framerate and tearing! Ugh, disgraceful.

Aside from the framerate, the game doesn't look that bad. It looks like a very well done port.

Edit: oh yeah the tearing is annoying.

Seems obvious they didn't butcher the 8th gen version for this. Might seem like a shitty thing to say for ps360 people, but I'm actually kind of glad that this ended up being this way instead of Warner forcing monolith to butcher the 8th gen version so this one would be okay.

True enough.

I dunno man, the textures and character models are preeeeettttty bad.

Yeah... maybe it was youtube compression which was hiding some of the ugly things, but upon close inspection you are right. The frame-rate seems to drop in the single digits during hefty combat too.

The character models would be acceptable if the LOD/draw distance/lighting/tearing/load times/framerate were good. They are not good. But the character models are probably the least-bad.

As someone who's spent a lot of time with the game on PS4 that looks awful. Stealth kill animation didn't seem to quite sync, blood effects heavily downgraded, terrible lip sinking in the nemesis dialogue, choppy frame rate (and I don't notice shit like that) and looked generally buggier

Massive streaming issues, check.
Bad pop-in, check.
Floating bodies, check.
Low resolution, check.
20fps, check.
Tearing, check.

I cannot go back to last gen... PS4 version was awesome.

No wonder they delayed it.

Hope this is the last year of major games having their toes dipped in last gen. It helps no one with either limiting scope of games for the newer machines or giving people who are stuck in the last generation a crappy experience.

Yikes is right. Who's even going to pick this up?

People who had no idea the last gen version looks remotely this awful. Most crossgen games look at least acceptable, just with 30 FPS and shit IQ. This though...jesus. It's the home-console version of console games ported to DS.

PS2, C64 AND DS? Dang. I think you're missing a Virtual Boy and possibly a "looks like Turok" comparison for the gamut of GAF hyperbole.

Good on Monolith for focusing on the current gen version. Sucks for last gen people but that's the way it goes

Oh man, some of those object and environmental textures are awful. It almost looks like some of the animations are missing frames, but I think its just my eyes planning tricks on me.

Reminds me of the Wii version of Quantum of Solace, where they sacrificed almost everything to get the "current-gen" game running, and the result was this:

Ooooooh damn. That's pretty bad.

I mean I had my misgivings about getting the PS3 version after the delay but this just guarantees I'm not getting it.

EEsh glitch on the floating death animation on that first dead guy

heard AC Rogue is way better tho, we're not done with cross-gen yet

wasn't it revealed that the nemesis system is not these versions.

fuck that then

Yeah after hearing it was the super interesting thing about this game, I'll just wait 'til I can afford current gen

This reminds me a LOT of the Wii ports that were seen throughout its lifetime. Call of Duty and Dead Rising both kind of looked like this in comparison to their current gen counterparts. Not only are the graphics not great here, the sound seems kind off canned and compressed, with hits not really making a satisfying noise. The audio design was one of the only reasons I enjoyed the original, so it's disappointing to see that players on last gen consoles don't get a full experience.

Also, I'm not usually picky about framerate, but wow that seems to drop to like 15-20 FPS any time you're looking in the distance. I'm surprised they got the fluidity of the cape right, though.

Game was great on PS4. Kind of glad hey did it this way instead of gimping current gen.

This is why cross gen needs to die asap.

Either the New gen game doesn't reach its potential, or the old gen can't handle it. Develope for one or the other.

Are you telling me that lighting is not incredibly bad or that those multi-minute load times for brief scenes are not reminiscent for or worse than C64? I mean C64 usually only loaded ONCE. This is a staggeringly terrible port.
