Do you know what really gets me?

"Teh Wii haz no games"

It's honestly one of my favorite consoles ever and as a result I have played A LOT of games for it. On top of that I have added games that I have heard positive feedback on. The bulk of my experience has been underrated gems that were mostly bombs, but were the very types of games that people were complaining the console didn't have. Not all of them are as polished as the Galaxys or Zeldas of the world, but they're worth trying. So without further ado:

  1. A Boy and His Bob

So any that I missed? Any that were on the list but shouldn't of been? I know I'll get panned for including a couple of these games. Keep in mind that me and my friends I have talked to about Wii games only ever had unmodded North American Wiis so anything that didn't come here we didn't get to play.

I wouldn't include games like Lego or Rock Band that were available and arguably better on every other console

Ctrl+f "Disaster: Day of Crisis"

:(. Good list though. Lots of oddities on the Wii that didn't get the time they deserved, like Deadly Creatures.

Yup, home to loads of absolute gems. I still maintain that in 10+ years, we will look back on the Wii with the same sort of love we give to the likes of the Gamecube.

I think my Wii library is only rivaled by my DS library.

And I refuse to buy bad games or shovelware. All of them are at least entertaining, and many are awesome.

I love the Wii and it certainly had its fair share of gems. Though some of the games on the list have had better releases on other systems (RE games) or have had better sequels (Animal Crossing).

Thanks for the list, OP. It's a bit big to be of use for me right now: I've been buying Wii games for my newly got Wii U (I never owned a Wii). So far, I have:

Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
House of the Dead 2 & 3 Rebirth
Ghost Squad
Red Steel
Red Steel 2
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Metroid: Other M
Madworld
Tenchu: Shadow Assassins
Disaster: Day of Crisis
Pangya! Golf With Style
Mario Strikers Charged
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Rhythm Heaven Fever
Punch-Out!!
Resident Evil Archives: RE0
Resident Evil Archives: REmake
Resident Evil 4
Pikmin Wii Edition
Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies
Xenoblade Chronicles

There's a couple of things in there I'm not expecting much from, but most of the things I picked up were so damn cheap. I still intend to buy the Super Mario Galaxy games (and The Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Fire Emblem Wii and the Metroid Prime Trilogy in an alternate universe where they're affordable), but is there anything obvious I'm missing?

Edit: What's GAF's opinion on The Force Unleashed on Wii? I never played any version, and the Wii is cheapest and easiest to find, so I was thinking of giving it a shot.

This is what really gets to me when people say the wii u is doing ok without 3rd party support/nintendo doesn't need it/ nintendo didn't have it.

I might just link to this thread next time I see someone say that!

Wii had a lot of "B" games, which in my opinion comprises most of that list.

That being said, looking at the Wii's entire library, it is a solid console with a great variety of games you can't really experience anywhere else.

Solid list!

And after that, check out Virtual Console too, I bet you'll find as many games worth trying there :)

And everything runs perfect on WiiU too btw. Easily forgotten these days when backwards compatibility isn't always standard anymore.

Wii(and DS,3DS) got lots of exclusive software, thank to its low costs, i dont think anyone is really ok with the Wii U third party situation, just that if there is, its mostly poor ports.

6 games in the list I like/am interested in (7 with Disaster).. Edit: totally missed Tatsunoko vs Capcom, so that makes 8 games =P

Good list.

Animal Crossing: Let's Go to the City
Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
House of the Dead 2 & 3 Rebirth
Ghost Squad
Red Steel NOPE, go to the second one immediately. The first one is bad
Red Steel 2
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Metroid: Other M
Madworld
Tenchu: Shadow Assassins
Disaster: Day of Crisis
Pangya! Golf With Style
Mario Strikers Charged
Trauma Center: Second Opinion Trauma Team is better, or so how I hear. Also, get New Blood
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Rhythm Heaven Fever
Punch-Out!!
Resident Evil Archives: RE0
Resident Evil Archives: REmake
Resident Evil 4
Pikmin Wii Edition
Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies
Xenoblade Chronicles
.

Outside of the adjustments on the quote. I heavily recommend Little King's Story and Donkey Kong Country: Returns.

I think you will have the perfect Wii Library.

EDIT: Also Zack & Wiki and Wii Sports Resort (try it, it's a really good game).

The Wii had better third party support than the Wii U.

It also had real 3rd party exclusives. Games you won't find anywhere else:

Fragile
Zack and Wiki
Boy and His Blob
Boombox
Ghost Squad
Mad World
Geometry Wars Wii Edition--very different form the arcade version.

I don't get the hate.

There are a lot of games on there I'd say aren't even worth trying. Epic Mickey? Really?

Yeah, there are a few questionable games on there just for the sake of bumping the numbers up (The Conduit 2, Manhunt 2) but there's no doubt it had a ton of amazing software. I personally never owned a Wii but have been picking up its games on the cheap for when I eventually own either a Wii or Wii U.

I have Little King's Story on Vita thanks to PS Plus; is the Wii version different/better?

Also, I know Red Steel is meant to be bad, but for less than $1 I kind of want to see for myself anyway.

Thanks for the other suggestions, I'll definitely look into Zack & Wiki, Wii Sports Resort and DKC:R.

I have prob only played 3 games on this list (SMG, Twilight Princess, Sin and Punishment 2) not including multiplats

Really should explore the Wii library more.

Pretty good list. I was surprised to find that upon review, I've played about 3/4 of those, I never really tracked it before. I think it was unfairly criticized for not having the heavy hitters of the time like COD, but it has some really great games you can't get anywhere else when you play things that are made for it.

There are a lot of games on there I'd say aren't even worth trying. Epic Mickey? Really?

Hey, he didn't say Epic Mickey 2 ;)

Well, at least Red Steel has good music, I guess... Wii version of LKS is definitive, it's pretty different, especially for characters, story and overall style.

Also get Excite Truck, Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (other versions are inferior) and No More Heroes (PS3 Version is shit). Unless you are completely biased against motion controls, but these are the great usages of it.

Project M is one of the best games on the system. If Valve made Smash Bros. Brawl they would have hired the PM developers, like Valve did with the Counter Strike mod in the 1990s.

Keep in mind that me and my friends I have talked to about Wii games only ever had unmodded North American Wiis so anything that didn't come here we didn't get to play.
It's unbelievable anyone who cares this much about the Wii would have this sentiment. Wii was one of the best systems for homebrew, and it will stay that way. Homebrew hit its peak with the Wii.
