'Looking' offers up the unfiltered experiences of three close friends living -- and loving -- in modern-day San Francisco.

Friendship may bind them, but each is at a markedly different point in his journey: Patrick is the 29-year-old video game designer getting back into the dating world in the wake of his ex's engagement; aspiring artist Agustín, 31, is questioning the idea of monogamy amid a move to domesticate with his boyfriend; and the group's oldest member -- longtime waiter Dom, 39 -- is facing middle age with romantic and professional dreams still unfulfilled.

The trio's stories intertwine and unspool dramatically as they search for happiness and intimacy in an age of unparalleled choices -- and rights -- for gay men.

Also important to the ‘Looking' mix is the progressive, unpredictable, sexually open culture of the Bay Area, with real San Francisco locations serving as a backdrop for the group's lives.

'Looking' was created by Michael Lannan and Andrew Haigh, who wrote and directed the critically-lauded 'Weekend.'

Doris shall be slaying this season

Going to check it out along with the usual HBO programing. Thought the first season was average. I think my primary issue was every introduction to a character was almost obligated to be a gay person. Like in the Looking Universe there are no straights in the bubble. Although, largely I think this has to do with the amount of characters they are following and the lack of runtime per episode.

Never heard of this, is it any good?

Not outstanding but the first series was fairly entertaining
My biggest complaints were that either the episodes needed to be longer or there needed to be more of them. Kinda been rectified with this series (10 vs 8 last time) so heres hoping.
I liked most of the characters and it had a lot of dry humour which is good

Dom + Ritchie

Im going to form a shipper club. Whos with me?!

Richie and Kevin or nothing

I hope they give Augustine a better storyline this time.
He was a bit too cuntish for mg liking last series

The first season was pretty boring until the episode that was just about Patrick and Richie. That episode was great. Richie deserves so much better BTW. Augustin is a tool and Doris is awesome. Curious to see how the new season will be.

I loved season one. I wouldn't call it "boring" but -comfy-.

It was refreshing to see a gay show that didn't depict "cis gay male world" as a "decadent" life of clubs, drugs and promiscuity (absolutely nothing wrong with that, but meh).

I won't complain if they introduce more drama, though.

Yeah, this is where I'm at. Patrick's struggle to figure out where a relatively normal 9-5 dude fit in within everything resonated strongly for me.

agreed.

i'm not going to pretend this is a top show but i'm happy to watch it

This is a good show. The episode from season 1 where Patrick and Richie spend the day together getting to know each other felt unbelievably true.

I'm here for more of these moments.

I saw the Season 2 trailer on youtube this morning.

Looks like a good premise. I hope the summer retreat is the primary location with little scenes back in the city.

Augustine is a chubby chaser? Lol

Season premiere tonight:
Looking for the Promised Land

Patrick, Agustin and Dom head to the Russian River to stay at Lynn's weekend cabin; the guys find themselves at a party in the woods; Patrick considers what he wants; Dom searches for clues about Lynn's old life.

Dom is so fucking hot.

Patrick still sucks.

Augustin was good surprisingly.

Doris is fucking hilarious.

Sex was still unrealistic. You can't just fuck like that. Unless I'm missing sonething and Kevin brought lube or something (I was distracted a bit so uh maybe he did?). Beautiful cinematography this episode. The weakest of the three HBO dramedies tonight, although Doris had me laughing the hardest.

"I was working but then everyone died"

It was alright, got better as it went along.

All three guys are pretty messed up, and I guess that's supposed to be so they can have a direction to take their characters. (Which the first part of season 1 lacked.)

Dom is still the only one I actually like, but I wasn't a fan of the open relationship deal. I like him with Lynn. The sex scene between Patrick and Kevin was hot.

They're trying to explore space traditional shows wouldn't cover- open relationships being omnipresent in the gay community is definitely something unique to them.

I have no problem with showcasing open relationships. I think it doesn't ring true for their relationship though. It seems super random.

Yes, absolutely. And that's fine -- it's something some of my friends have, and I find it interesting.

But, eh, uh, this episode. I don't know. Patrick is just a god damn Saltine of a character. The entire show would be so much stronger if he wasn't so… nothing. It makes the entire show this cotton candy nothing.

BUT DORIS WAS GREAT! yasss Doris yassss

He's also in New Orleans with Shh Pounder.

I had to stop myself from posting "What is Patrick" as my first response here. Naive dork? Petulant juvenile? Hall monitor that wants to be "cool"? I just can't with him still.

Don't post that key art ivy. I'm pretending that's not real.

Scott Bakula has said he is committed to being on Looking simultaneously, so I don't want them to cook up some lame plotline to break up Dom and Lynn.

Did your phone just autocorrect CCH to Shh? :-P

I love Patrick. He rings true to me because he feels a lot like....me, lol.

I don't call her CCH Pounder, I call her Shh Pounder.

Is there a mildly entertaining true Hollywood story here?

No, just that I think it's amusing to pronounce it Shh vs. CCH. Try saying Shh Pounder out loud. You'll love it.

Why would you do this.

You actually saved that image and edited it yourself. You spent time out of your life doing that just to post it. You are traveling down a dark path, that can only end with you EPing CSI: Cyber.

oh god.

Premiere was...fine. My thoughts on the main trio haven't really budged since we last saw them. No matter how cute Jonathan Groff is, Patrick is still sort of dull. Dom is the best. More Dom please. Augustin is the worst (which, even if he doesn't get better, his subplot has a lot of potential). I laughed that Doris' role in this episode was literally to show up and saved the day (as it fucking should be). I liked that we got a premiere away from the city but I can't really judge the direction of the season until all the pieces are in play and we're back in the main setting.

I never watched the show but I am curios are the men in this show portrayed as stereotypical gays or do they have some sort of depth outside of that.
They are most definitely not. Some of them exist in (very) broad outlines of certain types, but the show's not interested in being a gay encyclopedia.

Hmmm ok I'll check it out. I like seeing gay people portrayed in media but I never feel that the reflect myself at all in anyway. More than most characters they are very hollow.

Unforch no one on this show is my type. Maybe Dom? But I thought Patrick and Kevin had that so wrong yet so hot vibe.

Augustin is the worst though. Let's just replace him permanently with Richie and add a hot Asian guy, especially since this city is supposed to be San Francisco.
