Amazing.

Already passed the WiiU while the WiiU is overly on stock and the PS4 is not.

Now fund more games Sony.

Do we have another Wii phenomenon on our hands? The PS4 is certainly trending in the right direction.

Wii sales "shipped to retailers, stock flying off shelves so it's essentially sell-through numbers":

1 month - December 31st, 2006 - 3.19 million
4 months - March 31st, 2007 - 5.84 million
7 months - June 30th, 2007 - 9.27 million
10 months - September 30th, 2007 - 13.17 million

PS4 sales "shipped to retailers, all of the stock sells through super-fast so it's essentially sell-through numbers":

1 day: November 16th, 2013: 1 million
2 weeks: December 1st, 2013: 2.1 million
1 month: December 28th, 2013: 4.2 million
3 months: February 8th, 2014: 5.3 million

If we don't get a big slowdown, we could see some really incredible results from this console, and that gets me quite excited. :)

Still EA and Respawn will get screwed. Deals like these usually are based on an estimated amount of game sales, on predicted hardware numbers. I bet M$oft and EA did not expect the PS4 to sell this well and be kicking the Xbone ass. By the time Titanfall comes out the PS4 might be sitting almost 3mil units ahead of the XBONE.
I'm pretty sure deals like these also have safety measures generally, in case those predicted numbers will be something far worse.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
To be fair, didn't Sony and Microsoft's sales both drop significantly in January compared to December?

Of course....but PS4s were so much harder to find than the XBO and still is. The XBO is well supplied, they just aren't selling that well.

And that was a $250 item for everyone-including-grandma compared to a $400 core gamer system.

Not that they're exactly pining for sales, money or hype, but man did EA ever back the wrong horse with their Titanfall deal.
It isn't just Titanfall, they backed XB1 for everything:

1) Titanfall obviously
2) Peggle 2 exclusive window
3) Garden Warfare exclusive window
4) BF4 map pack exclusive window
5) exclusive content for EA Sports games

Not sure if I'm forgetting anything else.

I happily enjoy seeing EAs pull not as strong as they would like.

Im glad I snatched mine up on day one. Where I'm at in Canada some of my friends are still trying to get one. Ill just get it a bit later they said. Great marketing guys. Give Cerny and your marketing team a big fat raise.

Go compare with the1st January NPD of the previous consoles. PS4 number was good, Xbone number was not. Also PS4 was supply constrained, Xbone was not.

The term they used was "Strategic partnership"

PS4 had around a 65% drop while Xbox One was around 85%.

Xbox One sold more than PS4 in December didn't do so in January.

Yup, and both months PS4 sold out completely, hence why X1 was able to inch ahead in Dec.

I can't imagine what's going to happen once PS4 stock is stable

I dont expect a big slowdown since from March onward its packed with games.

They're able to produce 1 million consoles a month. It doesn't matter what gets diverted where, everything is selling out still so they're on track for 1 million per month still. Until stock starts sitting that number will continue.

Yes, but even adjusting for the time they were able to spend producing consoles before they started selling them - and not allowing for ramp-up at all - that would only put them at about... 5.2 million available units, meaning they would have reserved nothing for the Japanese launch.

Therefore, either the Japanese launch reservation is very small - possibly just a couple hundred thousand they could divert easily from weekly shipments - or their production has actually gone slightly north of a million per month.

The only thing I can maybe think of is soft Japan pre-orders but I dunno

I think this and the Order 1886 trailer aren't due a lack of Japanese demand, more a desire to really capitalise on momentum and turn the juggernaut into a runaway freight train before the next Titanfall hype outburst.

Hopefully its a PS2-like phenomenon :)

Sales always drop by january, it's the period when people have less spending money after the huge holidays and the best period of time to properly ascertain a product's demand without holiday boosts behind it.

The PS4 is doing incredibly well even when taking into account the post holiday drops, it just indicates that there's a real demand for the product and seeing as how a lot of people who want the console have not gotten it due to supply problems, it's going to get better from here.

Who knows when stock will be stable. They are still selling everything they make and there doesn't look to be an end in sight. The PS4 could potentially be sold out until Summer or longer.

January sales always drop for all consoles after month-over-month from December. PS4 did rather well, lack of stock everywhere. XBone did poorly in comparison, while having plenty of stock everywhere. And this is in the region MS had the most success in last gen

I guess my outsiders perspective is a bit different than yours. I can't see how any company would be in a panic mode after three months after a product launch. Now, if November 2014 rolls around and they're still lagging significantly behind Sony after a year, then yeah I would say they would probably be in a panic mode.

I think we will probably see a price drop in time for Summer, but I hardly think anyone's head is on the chopping block just yet.

Eh you do realize MS was in panic mode from the reveal event in May of last year up until launch right? I don't think it takes much to make them nervous considering the XB1's history up until this point

These are all interesting theories. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I guess it's possible. I mean people in Europe started getting "Made in Japan" stickered consoles which meant they got more factories online.

Expected March LTDs from these numbers:

Wii U: 6.2m
PS4: 7.0m
Xbox One: 4.2m

Very impressive altogether.

I think MS will be lucky to get to 3.6 million by March. With American sales at 141K, I think worldwide sales are probably only half of US salesThe Xbox One is not a huge seller in the UK, and it's far less popular in countries like France, Spain, Germany and Italy. And then there's the channel stuffing. If MS is reporting consoles shipped instead of sold, they're even worse off.

Oh man, I can't fucking wait until Sony gets ps4 stock stable. I hate telling people every day we're sold out of PS4s at gamestop.

It's really exciting!

Just have a sign on the door that you can flip. One side: NO PS4s in stock. Other side: YES we have PS4s.

Well... just out of curiosity, how do you know they're taking the news hard?

(THe follow is all speculative, but support his theory):

-Intentionally leaking E3 info in hopes of building up hype

-making Titanfall open Beta

-stores having sales/discounts on XB1 consoles like Target's $50 giftcard and Walmarts 1 free game

Again, this is all speculative, but these events may be proof of MS worried PS4's sales numbers compared to the XB1's

The used market is getting stuffed too which can take sales. Seeing lots of them on Craigslist SD, many of them in the $400 range. And these ads are leaving phone numbers making it less likely that they're scam ads.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
That's dam impressive, now where are those game announcements 3rd party's, people are waiting.

Well, I hope the troubles of Xbox One can really force Microsoft to do their best to make good 1st party games. This is the only way they can save Xbox One.

And I am starting to worry 3rd party will drop the support on Xbox One if this sales continue.

I'm hoping they're closing in on 7-7.5 million units by the end of March. And closing in on 20-22 million units by next March. I expect the Christmas season to be especially kind to them this year.

Wii U sales:

1 month: December 31st, 2012: 3.06 million
4 months: March 31st, 2013: 3.45 million
7 months: June 30th, 2013: 3.61 million
10 months: September 30th, 2013: 3.91 million
13 months: December 30th, 2013: 5.86 million

1 month: December 28th, 2013: 4.2 million

The sales trajectory is ridiculous compared to Wii U.
