It has to be asked : Will Dark Souls 2 get the PS4/XB1 version it so deserves ?

After experiencing the massive difference between Final Fantasy 14 PS4 and PS3 versions, the thought that Dark Souls 2 was similarly butchered on current gen consoles kept crossing my mind.

I honestly believe that FROM, rather than being incompetent, was put in a corner with consoles that couldn't deliver the best version of the game. The sheer performance and graphical differences between FF14 PS3 and PS4 made it such a high possibility that DS2 may have faced a similar situation.

Are there any rumors floating about concerning PS4/XB1 version of Dark Souls 2 ? Do you think FROM will announce a definitive version that most fans would be craving for at this point ?

Perhaps at E3 such news will be announced ? Or is it more wishful than anything ?

I'm sure that the sell rates of the current gen consoles & decline of last gen console sales have not gone unnoticed by publishers. I expext a bunch of "Definitive Editions" at E3.

I can't wait, personally, as I stopped buying last gen games.

I do not think it is wishful thinking...FROM will see the install base and the money to be made with a "definitive edition" and port the PC version to both consoles.

E3 should hit us with a few big last-gen up-ports. As long as they aren't the focus, I'll be fine with it.

Considering what they did to the PC release I wouldn't even buy it even if they did, and would probably never buy another FromSoft game again unless they roll out the new stuff as a free patch to PC users.

Dammit, they owe us a PS4/XB1 version after that downgradaton! Do it now dammit, I'm entitled and I demand it in full native 1080/ 60fps....

Pretty Please, so I can buy it once I get some cash..

Unlikely, I'd say. Especially if the PC version is just the console version capable of a higher framerate and resolution. We'll have to wait to find out though.

In an ideal world, some magic will happen that will resolve IP-rights issues, and a "Souls Masters Collection" will be released for next-gen consoles that are a high-def/next-gen remake of Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, Dark Souls II combined into the same game-world (somehow) + a whack-load of new additional content.

No idea how this would work form a legal perspective, lore, or game-world design perspective but dammit - I want it!

Dude we still dont have definitive info on the PC release outside of some screenshots

I would assume so, but we don't really know until they announce something.

I'm quietly hoping they will announce a trilogy set for PS4 with all the games getting a little bit of a face lift. But I'm not holding my breath.

Beaten, sort of. My dreams are much less crazy than yours though.

What did they do to the PC... Oh wait, nobody knows anything about that version and you are just talking total bullshit.

Probably. Current gen install bases are doing quite well.

I'm secretly hoping they include DS1 at 1080p with fully functional 60FPS and dedicated servers, too.

I wish it had been next gen from the get go. I hate getting late games on the previous system. Feels like a wasted opportunity to make use of my shiny new system. Even if it does get up ported to the new ones at some point (even if it's only a day later), the original version will forever be the 'real' version in my eyes, and the only one I really play (because I'm weird).

You really don't have to wait to find that out. They pulled every predowngrade shot off the Steam store after someone ragged to their community manager about false advertisement. To which he replied totally flippantly that the downgrade looking shots are the final (p much confirming that the PC version was needlessly cut down for parity) and kinda asserted that if we even care about such things in the first place we aren't real souls fans, so yeah...

Edge asked From Software about this question back in January:

"We have not put any thought into this yet, so I unfortunately I can’t answer at this point. At the start of development, we felt that there was still a lot of potential that remained unused in Dark Souls. I hope this can be seen with the demos and footage that we have released. Our intention was to capitalize on the total potential of [seventh-generation] consoles and deliver the game to fans as soon as possible." - co director Yui Tanimaru

By the way, they have zero plans for a Wii U port, primarily because the reason is due to how the audience on Wii U doesn't seem like a good fit for it.

I'd buy it. I don't have a last gen console anymore. :-(

I think it will. It doesn't seem like a port would be all that resource consuming considering it'll have a PC version, and all the cool kids are doing it (Tomb Raider, GTA V, Last of Us).

Last I heard, no, but things can change so you never know. A port of the PC version would be welcome but I'm not holding my breath.

For selfish reasons I hope not because I don't want to start everything over. In general, though, I hope they do some kind of HD release with new stuff. Would be cool.

I think they intentionally gimped it just so the PS4/XB1 version looks much better. Gives people reason to double dip. :/

Guys if anyone played FF14 on PS3 you'll know the game was pretty barebones.

Its had no effects, enemy animations were cut in half from a distance (much like Dark Souls 2), poor inconsistent framerate.

Seriously Dark Souls 2 had much the same "symptoms of repression" as FF14.

It would be a crime if the game doesn't get a current gen version.

I have a feeling it won't....

One of the few late gen game I feel won't get a next gen port
Well, FROM has said they made the game with next-gen in mind, and had to downgrade the PS3/360 versions when those systems weren't up to the task, so... I think we'll see them port it to PS4 and XO.

What I want to know is how the PC version will be. Any word on whether PC version will have the lighting and other effects they originally planned?

I haven't bought Dark Souls II and South Park: TSOT because I'm holding onto the smallest amount of hope they will announce next gen ports.

You already knew Dark Souls 2 was not getting a PS4 or XB1 version long before the consoles even came out. Should have kept one if you wanted to play it.

And if the PC version isn't much of an improvement on the lighting, don't expect an improved rerelease on those consoles.

No kidding LOL

Any Souls fan is a fan because of the gameplay. I'm not a fan of downgrading, but I'm gonna buy these good games because they offer better gameplay than pretty much every other game on the market. Makes you wonder if these boycotters have played Demons Souls and Dark Souls.

That have the lighting and all advanced effects removed, while all other screens of the game featuring the predowngraded effects have been removed from the steam store.

I mean you may want to stick your head in the sand over it, but the implication is pretty fucking crystal clear to anyone with a set of functional eyes and the ability to access the steam store that the final PC version has been cut down.

What did they do to the PC....

If they try and charge back the upgraded effects later when there was no reason to cut them in the first place on PC, then yes they are trying to fuck over PC users just to make a quick buck, and I won't support such bullshit. Sorry.

this is the kind of classic internet rage that i keep coming back for

Ah yes, the "umad" drive by post argument. So compelling.

I'm not mad at all. They released a shitty PC version of Dark 1, and if they try and do charge to put back in effects that had no reason to be cut in the first place then I will not support them ever again. Fool me once, shame on me. Fool me twice, it's my own damned fault. It's not anger, it's just me deciding that I can't trust them anymore. Sorry if you're willing to take bullshit because you like the games, but I have enough shit to play that missing Fromsoft's stuff won't even be a blip on my radar.

What I want to know is how the PC version will be. Any word on whether PC version will have the lighting and other effects they originally planned?

They're essentially confirmed to be gone. When the question about them was put to a Namco rep he danced around it and then promptly removed every screen of the game with the lighting mechanics/advanced effects from the steam store.

If they do, I'd hope they would roll that same patch out to the PC.

The current-gen version would be based on the PC version.
PCs are more than capable of handling anything the current-gen consoles can produce.

I don't see any reason, other than greed, that the graphical updates wouldn't be patched into the PC version as well.

THIS~!

Would love to see the previous games updated visually and re-released

The first game is a damn Classic at this point

b-but my superior lighting that would make the entire game as annoying as Tomb of Giants. :qq
