CBS (CBS) is considering hiring a woman for “The Late Late Show” as the TV network weighs a complete remodeling of its programming for night owls.

“12:30 is up in the air,” Leslie Moonves, chief executive officer of CBS Corp., said yesterday in an interview, referring to the early-morning time slot. “Obviously, we’re considering all sorts of candidates and women are among them. A woman would be great in late night.”

A female host would provide a contrast to the all-male lineup that now dominates late-night broadcast television and could attract new viewers. CBS is also considering keeping its current host, Craig Ferguson, whose contract ends in June. The network said yesterday Stephen Colbert would become host of “The Late Show” next year when David Letterman retires.

Chelsea Handler, who hosts a late-night show on Comcast Corp.’s E! network, is available and has let CBS know she’s interested in “The Late Late Show,” said a person with knowledge of the situation, who asked not to be identified because the talks are at an early stage.

Man, fuck CBS if they replace Craig for no reason. Especially with Chelsea Handler, who is the opposite of funny. If you want a female host, hell, at least go for someone like Tina Fey or Amy Poehler. But still, Craig's the best thing CBS has going for it in the late night arena, and I'd hate to see him get pushed out. I mean, unless it meant he could take his show to cable and go 100% unrestrained. That'd be pretty great I guess.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
I sort of get the logic line, but fucking Chelsea Handler is like the worst obvious pick they could go with.

Craig's the best host in late night as far as I'm concerned, certainly the best interviewer - I'd hate to see him replaced by anyone, but Chelsea Handler? Ehhhhhhhhhhhh.

I'm not a regular watcher but his show is great when I do watch it. Fuck nooo. Colbert/ferguson would've been epic. I really hope this doesn't happen.

Ferguson is amazing. I watch almost zero television but I will sometimes sit and catch up on that show.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
This may just be the network trying to flex some leverage as Ferguson's contract comes up for negotiation.

If Craig gets the boot for someone like Chelsea Handler or Aisha Tyler then that would be obscenely awful.

This. What if Ferguson took over the 11:30 slot on CC? Would you complain then?

Well, I said in the OP that I guess it'd be cool if he went to cable and got to go completely unrestrained, like his stand-up act.

But only if he was able to take Geoff and Secretariat with him.

And even then, I wouldn't WANT it to happen. He needs to stay right where he is.

Craig Ferguson rocks, why are they replacing him? Cause he got passed over by Colbert and got a LARGE amount of money as per his contract?

Don't replace him with Handler.. I'm all for a female host, really, but not her. Tina Fey probably wouldn't do it, but I adore her so ask her anyway.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

Craig is the best thing in late night. To possibly replace him with Chelsea Handler is a fucking crime.

Yeah I wanna say she said she'd never go in that direction, but I'd love to she her try, she's so amazing.

This is kinda shocking, since I thought he had security at that time slot. CBS would be stupid if they did this.

From what I understand (I don't follow them), his ratings are pretty poor. It makes sense why they'd want to replace him.

If they want to replace him with a woman, do Amy Schumer.

Terrible terrible terrible idea. Going to give to to Handler just because they want to shake things up and late night will be worse because of no Craig.

Isn't that always the case for that time slot? Is his competition really outnumbering him that much?

Looking over them now, yes, they are pretty low, even for that time slot.

i mean its a scottish guy talking to a robot with a fake horse running by at 12 30 at night what do they expect

Yeah, exactly. Which is why I'm surprised people are surprised that they'd want to replace him with someone with a broader appeal.

Sure this is CBS's idea? I can't imagine Ferguson wants to hang around after getting passed over for the Late Show job.

His security was the fact that the Late Late Show is co-produced by World Wide Pants (Letterman's production company) and CBS. It used to be solely produced by WWP, but during Craig's last contract extension CBS became a co-producer of the show (and Craig got a new studio out of it).

WWP will likely just license out the name to CBS. If they do this, they (WWP) won't have content control anymore and CBS would end up as the sole producer of the show. This means CBS would have complete control over the content of the show. I am guessing that once Dave retires they will march in and gut the show. CBS will probably also tell Craig "Sure we will renew your contract, but these are the changes you need to make to the show" once Dave retires.

Craig didn't want it. He has mentioned it in many interviews in the past. In all of these stories I've read about the Colbert move that has mentioned Craig, not a single one has even mentioned that Craig has said before many, many times that he didn't want it. Really shoddy journalism, but I guess sensationalism and drama sells.
