NPD Sales Results for March 2014 [Up4: FFX/X-2 HD]

If you are talking about just the US then yes, maybe they can claw things back.

But from a global perspective? No way. The damage that they have done in some parts of Europe, the Middle East and Asia is irreparable.

No no, globally, it's over. At the present rate, it's going to be a blood bath, so I'm specifically talking about the United States, yes.

To be clear, I'm presently of the mindset that Sony will easily double Xbox One the world over. And with more passing time, I'm thinking it might be closer to triple. If Microsoft dumps Kinect and passes the savings on to the consumer (I don't expect them to bleed cash, there's no appetite for it), then they can stay closer (still behind), with most of that coming from the US and some of their better markets in Europe.

This. Pretty much.

This made me realize something. In a lot of ways (in terms of marketing) Titanfall is similar to the original Demon's Souls: An AA game that gets hyped up to AAA levels. Demon/Dark Souls sells a couple of millions and is seen as a massive success because of its budget. I think the same can be said for Titanfall seeing as how Respawn seem happy with sales, but MS is not.

Big win for Respawn in the end.

Yup, Titanfall was a game made by about 75 people, with most of the development taking place in the span of ~1 1/2 years.

Final Hours really shows how much damage the Activision lawsuit did to the development of the game. The studio was tearing itself apart, instead of making a game, for most of their life.

Principate

Saint Titanfall
What stunted growth? The studio was basically in risk of being shutdown at every single moment throughout development.

It's a fucking miracle the game shipped. Respawn is lucky they're still here today, and even more lucky that Titanfall sold well.

Still if EA had invested more money to this project that wouldn't have happened. Hell EA had the insurance of keeping all of the revenue until a certain threshold had been reached.

I don't know how but EA are masters of screwing people over,

So again, your resorting to the "because that's what they told us" argument.

I guess there's only one way to discover the truth. Someone will have to take a look at their next quarterly and yearly financial reports and simply do the math. If the numbers add up then we know they're being honest. If they don't then someone has the basis for a truly popcorn worthy story.

Sony lists their total hardware units and then at the bottom of that page they "highlight" the PS4 has sold 4.2million of those units. Are you suggesting that Sony is lying to their investors?

Just got the news.

PS4 best selling hardware of March?

WHAT????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damn, MS must be in panic mode right now.

Dread to think what the situation is going to be for the Xbone if TLOU; Remastered lands in June or July.

I may be ignorant here but has the bone got any big exclusives coming any time soon?

Demon's Souls was never hyped up to AAA levels, the marketing was minimal, it was hyped by word of mouth alone. Heck, pre-release, people didn't give a shit about it, I distinctly remembering even GAF scorning its gameplay at the earliest TGS showings. Demon's Souls and TitanFall are opposites if anything.

DS was a genuine run away hit. TF was manufactured to be the next big thing.

Sure, but that would mean the months for release dates for big games don't mean shit anymore, which has always been the rationality for being 'a system seller'.
I think this is really only applicable for AAA games that are the first major nextgen release. A similar logic could be applied to Second Sons as well(although the PS4 hardware in general is much more desirable).

I think Microsoft is in trouble now.

Sony has MLB14 coming up for the Ps4.
They have exclusive marketing for Watchdogs.
They have The Last Of Us Remastered coming up.
They have DriveClub coming up.
They have exclusive marketing for Destiny.
They have The Order 1886 coming up.
They have Planetside2 coming up.

Microsoft has basically nothing until SunsetOverdrive, Halo2 Anniversary or Forza Horizon2 hit.

Microsofts really needs to knock it out of the park at E3.
By that I mean not only games wise. They need to show something amazing like Illumiroom or a VR/AR solution.
They need to drop the price below Ps4.
And they need to show a of amazing exclusives.

That actually is a very good line up for Sony now that you put it that way. Planned or not, there's something interesting every month. Not bad for first year.

Sony went in for a combo, they probably knew they won so they went ahead and released the 7 million sales pr. Gap increasing, excellent. PS4 WON

If Nintendo announces that Mario Kart 8 bundle for the US, there might be a lot of fence jumpers. That along with a big ad campaign will really help...

It'd be suicide not to. They need to be spot on with marketing, especially if they don't want to be overshadowed by Ubi's goliath marketing campaign for watch dogs. Even though it's a completey different game, it's going to be a system seller itself which will get people contemplating on a PS4/Bone purchase VS a Wii U with MK8. If they price the MK8 bundle right, they might get a decent amount of PS4/Bone owners considering a wii u purchase as a secondary console.

You all just don't understand. It's a shame. Titanfall is going to slowly build that momentum. It's the next Call of Duty which means it has inevitable lifetime sales of around 20 million. And seeing as Xbox One is the only place to play it (lol at PC like anyone gives a shit), this means Xbox One is guaranteed around 30 million sales (2 out of 3 Xbox One owners with Titanfall is a high possibility). Same can't be said for PS4. It has no games, let alone any game. This is why such a game is so important.

The Last of Us will not matter. Sony isn't keeping up with demand now, so "adding" more to it doesn't make a difference.

But are we so quick to forget what we just saw here? A major title just dropped and it didn't move the needle, and you're looking to a year old port to presumably hammer another nail into the coffin?

Revisionist history is all the rage nowadays I guess.

As consumers, people should be pretty excited about Microsoft getting their asses handed to them by Sony. Microsoft has a history of being pretty awesome when their backs are against the rope, and hopefully that's the case here. My only worry is that we won't see the fruits of Spencer's labor for a few years, as was the case with Sony last generation. Should be interesting to see Microsoft's gameplan moving forward. The only thing that might royally fuck them over from a first party standpoint, is the possibility that it'll basically be Matrick, Balmer and company's gameplan that'll be guiding the XB1 for the next 1-2 years.

Please give examples of MS pulling through when their backs are against the wall?

TLOU is releasing in a dead period with much less competition. And there's probably a bunch of people wanting a PS4 that didn't have a PS3 nor played TLOU.

Ok, maybe not Demons Souls, but Dark Souls 2 is definitely considered a 'major' release for core gamers. I wanted to make the case for the original Demons (since it was also a new IP at the time) but I forgot that it kind of came out of nowhere. I'm just saying there's a disconnect sometimes between perception of development scale and the actual development scale, using (in a better comparison) Dark Souls 2 as an example of it.

"We’re also happy to share today that more than 5 million Xbox One consoles have been sold-in to retailers since our launch."

And it was 3.9m to retail at the end of last year. 1.1m shipped in the quarter. As gofreak put it in the other thread, Sony is selling through to consumers in one month what MS shipped to retail in a quarter.

Thuway said that PS4 is ~60K more than Xbox One. That's absolutely correct, guys. Right on the money.

I can confirm that PS4 sold 371K this month, vs. Microsoft's 311K.

LTD:

PS4 - 2.91 million

XB1 - 2.53 million

LTD difference comparisons:

November: PS4 is +0.23 million greater than XB1
December: PS4 is +0.18 million greater than XB1
January: PS4 is +0.31 million greater than XB1
February: PS4 is +0.32 million greater than XB1
March: PS4 is +0.38 million greater than XB1

Sony won't lie about their numbers. Investors use this sort of data, and if they find out Sony has been fiddling with numbers, than there will be a lawsuit that can cost Sony millions, if not billions, of dollars.
Not only investors, but also credit rating agencies use this information. If, in hindsight, it turns out that the credit rating was supposed to be lower, Sony can be sued by banks and financial agencies (because: rents would have been higher and some banks then wouldn't even loan money to Sony).

It's ridiculous that you are suggesting that Sony is playing with its sales data and revenue numbers. And it's even more ridiculous if you don't have any evidence to back your claims.
