NPD Sales Results for March 2014 [Up4: FFX/X-2 HD]

6. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes (Konami) < 280,000
7. NBA 2K14 (Take-Two Interactive)
8. Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster (Square Enix)

Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX sold in its first month around 273,000 units so it's highly likely that Kingdom Hearts once again beat Final Fantasy.

Also has to do with the fact that it was the final mix version of Kingdom Hearts where I'm sure there was plenty of people like me waiting 14 years or whatever to finally play it.

i really hope not. it will really kill the xbox one.

the whole xbox experience is because of kinect. in the sense that it what makes the system different.

i am not really happy with this news and i own both systems ps4 and xbox one.

but to see one system sells less than the other even tho the price dropped and released a big game just because that system is selling based on hype alone is kinda sad.

again, i own both systems. and not i only love my playstation 4, i adore it. but at the end of the day i play games on it. and currently xbox one just released a big profile game i expected the xbox one to out sell it

kinect is what got them in this position in the first place among other stuff. No one cares for it and it made the system weaker since they focused on that. exclusives is what will separate it from others like any other system.

Dude, Before LR release, there were tons of gameplay trailers, a whole behind the scene documentary, a old school retro trailer, a live action commercial, gameplay info coming almost every week, Nomura's Art Contest and potentially more stuff that i might have missed on it. SE did their best to shove that game everywhere. Compared to LR, X|X-2 HD didn't really get properly marketing until after LR was released. Heck, i am sure they delayed X|X-2 HD to give more spotlight to LR, since it was supposed to release in Feb before X|X-2 HD. They did this despite the original game already having the english localization, which we saw in the form of a simple CFW hack on the Jap Ver for PS3.

As for the "series" remark, I was talking solely about XIII as a series.

You are talking about Japan's marketing though as suppa mentioned. It worked well enough to move what 420k+ in Japan alone where Lightning is still very popular. All SE did here was facebook campaigns and the art contest AFTER the game release. And both were/are pretty successful. But shoving it down our throats? I doubt most people knew it was even coming.

As for FFX being delayed, it's simple: why release two FF titles in the same month?

i'd like to ask a question for those that know about these things. can retailers send back consoles and get their money back? i imagine microsoft got to 5 mil consoles shipped thanks to the titanfall bundle but since it's likely they won't be selling those consoles anytime soon i imagine the retailers will want to get rid of them.

As an Xbox One owner currently only, this stuff doesn't bother me either way. I am having a blast with my new system and have purchased more digital content in less than a year then I did almost all of last gen. I look forward to my PS4 purchase in May for MLB The Show and anything else that comes out on both systems.

It shouldn't bother you. 4-5 million consoles sold already is not bad unless I'm just gravely mistaken. PS4 has sold more, but I don't see how that makes the Xbox One sales bad.

You state this stuff about Kinect as if it is fact. Believe it or not, some people actually enjoy what Kinect brings to the table. I dig it and use it often, in game and out of it. It is a key differentiator between the two systems so far.

XB1 from a strictly numbers perspective is doing great. However, the same can be said for the PS4 in Japan. Both of these situations have a common big problem. The sale slowdown is steep. The fact that the XB1 sold worse week-for-week than it did in February, even with bundling, Titanfall, and discounts is kind of scary.

This seems to be the real story here, IMO.

It lends creedence to two scary scenarios:

1) That most people that were buying the console for its biggest game had largely already done so

2) The price elasticity of the console is quite low, and a price drop won't do much unless it's very agressive.

Both are not good positions to be in. The biggest hope is that word of mouth carries Titanfall's legs far enough to make March only the beginning of the sales generated by the game. But again, we hit on the fact that week-per-week sales were actually lower in March, despite the game already being released/being closer to release.

It is an appendix that Microsoft is treating as a vital organ. It needs to be excised.

Japan is a whole other story. There's no compelling software yet. Not equivalent at all to XB1 with Titanfall is it?

I think this has been done, but it's generally a last resort. Retailers would probably do gift card and faux-bundles long before it comes to this.

Are you kidding me? Mario Kart is always a big seller.

I don't think it'll push hardware. We've had ~3 'big' Wii-U titles release in pretty close proximities and they've barely increased sales for the thing. Shame because the console's awesome.

MK8 will do just that. A barely noticable push in SKUs

It seems more logical to accept the Wii-U's slow sales. I mean, it could be worse.

People that already own a WiiU will buy the shit out of Mario Kart 8.

That's the problem. Is Mario Kart /really/ a big enough brand to make curious buyers bite the bullet and buy the damn thing?

It'll sell like gangbusters with it's own playerbase. But that playerbase is small.

What about ones who dont want it but want the system, force them to pay more? It's not a differentiator since you can get a camera for PS4 as well.

Gotta love that Microsoft spin. "sold-in" to retailers... good grief just say "shipped".

Other quick points:

1) I'm shocked that Titanfall didn't push more Xbox Ones. I was expecting no less than 400k.

2) Pleasantly surprised to see South Park and Final Fantasy make the top 10.

3) Impressive attach rates for both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

4) I would be shocked if Microsoft didn't have a substantial price cut planned for E3. They can either drop the system by $50 or drop Kinect and shave off $100 (unlikely). Or if the situation is especially dire, drop the system by $100 while keeping Kinect. The gap between the two consoles will continue to grow wider in my estimation, especially when Sony's heavy hitting exclusives launch this holiday and beyond.

Why are strippers at the U.N. bad when they're great at strip clubs???
Mario Kart won't do shit for the Wii-U

Mario Kart 8 should increase Wii U sales by at least two fold.

The statement of won't do shit is simply false - Will Wii U be able to maintain such momentum, that remains to be seen, however unlikely.

Sad to see the Wii U still lagging, but just wow @ the Vita. I am not a fan of handhelds, but it is pretty loaded down with games I would love to play.

Guilty as charged. I will play until it chafes my eyeballs.

If anything, it'll have a delayed effect by boosting sales when the holidays roll around and people realize that there are, in fact, some Wii U games worth owning.

Currently, what other options do you have? if you really want the system you will pay for it. I happen to think that the $100 extra has been worth it. A price drop probably will occur. It is a much more versatile piece of hardware in comparison to the Sony camera, no?

See I can accept this. Mario and Christmas got some weird juju going on.

I'd even go as far as to say that Sonic could do some things for Wii-U come christmas time if Sonic Boom turns out to be a hit

So the real question is did Infamous outsell the Bone version of TitanFall. MS won't win NPD for a really long time. Now, Sony should pack in some cheap game like Knack for free and put the foot to the throat. Won't effect their bottom line, and improves value at the same time.

Don't let them off the mat.

if this is the case then it's a terrible idea buying an xbox one at the moment. if microsoft is really planning on lowering the price soon then people should just wait and maybe score the the titanfall bundle for 400 after retailers have a fire sale to make room for the new bundle or box.

no it didn't. the price did. kinect has nothing to do with a the xbox one being a weaker system. and mind you the xbox one isn't really that much weaker compared to the ps4 to call it "weak"

unless you were referring about how kinect drove the xbox price up. then yes. you are right. but MS can swallow a 100$ loss on the system for now and make up for it with xbox live and the games being bought.

however, to sell an xbox one without kinect is just dividing the user base and not really get the full experience with the xbox one.
