Halo 5: Guardians revealed - more at E3 - Fall 2015 [Box Art person is new guy]

They should be worried because even though the PS4 is outselling the X1, there is no debate that the Xbox already has better exclusive games on the market and more of them. Now, we have a pissed-off Microsoft coming into E3, a price drop, policy changes and who knows what else, and Sony hasn't been saying anything.

They took forever to get a firmware update out, there's almost no hype for The Order, and it seems like aside from Druve Club, they have no big AAA exclusive planned for late 2014. Chances are any big news that comes from them @E3 won't see a release until 2015, and I'm CONSTANTLY hearing PS4 owners complain about the focus on indie titles, in real life. One of my friends even said if they spend 20 minutes onstage @E3 talking about abstract platformers and puzzle games, he's getting rid of the system because "I didn't spend $400 to play something that could run on my phone".

I know a lot of dissatisfied PS4 owners in my daily life, and Sony needs to appease those people and announce more than just a new GoW or Uncharted. They're in 1st place, so they need to act like it. I want to buy a PS4 myself, but right now its a wasteland and I can't justify it.

Some of the retail exclusives that MS published for the XB1 were originally going to be on the 360, which is why 2013 was a baron wasteland whereas Sony had their first party studios developing TLoU, GoW: Ascension, Gran Turismo 6, and one or two Vita games.

You already know that Sony's 12 first party studios are working on PS4 games so you have nothing to worry about in that regard. And we also already know that they have second party studios Quantic Dream and Ready At Dawn working on PS4 exclusives. Then we also know From Software is working on an exclusive Souls game for PS4.

And idk where you're getting this zero hype for "The Order," that game looks amazing and is coming from RaD. It will be great and it's slated for this year.

"We felt separating health and shields was only confusing players. We're also removing cheesy video game elements like health bars in favor of something more visceral."

"The new tactical grenade slot unlocks a ton of possibilities for intense, strategic combat."

"Personal ordnance didn't offer enough 'oomph' so we're taking a different approach and giving it more direct offensive potential."

I could certainly be wrong (and glad that I am), I'm just keeping my expectations in check and trying to be realistic. This E3 will determine whether or not I get an X1 this year.

But last year's E3 was better than Sony's and they're saying they're planning on delivering the same thing this year. But if you thought their last E3 was boring, idk what they could show off to make you actually interested in the console.

You realize the biggest sellers aren't even exclusives right? People buy these consoles for the big mainstream multiplat titles. I'd wager CoD sold more X1s/PS4s than any of their exclusives. Indies are also games, you ignoring them doesn't make that not true. You also seem to be ignoring PC/PS4 games like FFXIV

Jesus, you're not even trying to be transparent.

People should really make that distinction when they say Halo 4 was bad. Most people are really just talking about the multiplayer.
The best things I can say about Halo 4 is that the cutscenes were pretty and they brought back the Battle Rifle, which was great to use in the small instances where the game was fun. The Campaign and Spartan Ops suffered in every facet besides how it looked:
  • poorly written new characters like Palmer and Del Rio
  • overly linear feel in campaign progression and less sense of exploration than past titles
  • aggravating/not fun new enemies to fight in the Prometheans
  • sound design was all over the place and most of the changes seemed completely unnecessary aside from 343 wanting to put their own stamp on it. Warthog was particularly egregious.
  • overall worse enemy AI than any previous Halo title
Spartan Ops was a great idea in concept, but it fell woefully short of even the most overpowered Reach Firefight settings:
  • insanely bad connection issues, I rarely got a connection that didn't slow any major encounter into a slideshow
  • Palmer in my ear with mind-numbing dialog. Jennifer Hale had more enjoyable lines in Bulletstorm
  • motherfucking buttons to press all the time, everywhere
...and then there was multiplayer, which just stunk. Title update came too late to bring back the massive amount of players that left, and finding a decent skill match became an exercise in frustration. The maps were nothing short of disappointing, loadouts and Armor Abilities allowed for too much in-game abuse, etc., etc.

I call Halo 4 a bad game, but I still have hope that 343 can deliver a good one after learning from their in-house mistakes.

Ryse. Dead Rising 3. Killer Instinct. Plants Vs Zombies. Forza 5. Titanfall. Kinect Sports Rivals. Sunset Overdrive. Halo 2 AE. Forza Horizon 2?

Killzone. Knack. Infamous SS. Drive Club. The Order. Uncharted. TLOU Remastered.

You tell me. I'm a Playstation guy btw, but their current lineup sucks. The only thing making a PS4 purchase enticing right now for me is the price and the hope that PSNow is up and running (well) later this year like Sony says it will be. Well, that and Project Beast ;)

Their last E3 was good, in terms of games I'd agree that they came ahead of Sony; however let me explain my cynicism. The X360 had a great start before MS just dropped it. I've been burned too many times so I'm weary of what they may do. The X1 bombing so far means they'll have to put effort into this E3, which is why I'm actually looking forward to it but at the same time MS has failed me so many times that I can't help but feel they won't live up to it. Hopefully I'm wrong and I'll eat some crow

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Microsoft in panic mode, can't wait to see what they have to show in the E3.

Fuck no, you just ruined Halo again, stop it.

I'm not saying that customisation would be a good thing.

Chances are it isn't though, 343 saw the backlash from Halo 4. Maybe it's just a different model.

please....for the love of god fix that god awful control scheme for the worthog.....PLEASE

What's wrong with the Warthog?

The driving in Halo is almost perfect.

I stated this yesterday and I'll mention this again.

I can't tell if MS revealing Halo 5 now is a good or bad omen for their E3 conference. On one hand you would think that games being reveal prior to E3 is an indication that their E3 conference will be packed with games. On the other hand Halo 5 is the biggest game that MS could have revealed at E3, why do it now...

If the lady Spartan at the top is Cortana I will be very interested in Halo 5.

Right now my hype for this game is simply "ntkrnl and CBOAT were right," they really need to hire whoever designed the multiplayer for Halo 1, 2 and 3

EDIT: Nope, it's another man ;_;

Dude, this is a Halo thread. This has been discussed ad nauseum.

Just the fact that you list leaked games and non-exclusives in one side but not the other should clue you in that beyond being off-topic, you have clearly lost all objectivity on this subject.

Not sure if I want to jump back in the Halo universe just yet.

Halo 3 ODST left a very sour taste in my mouth. I still can't believe that filth was made by Bungie. How is 343?

Um what in the living hell is happening...If Halo 3 ODST isn't good i don't think i like halo

Look, his visor is still cracked! I am guessing he is going to be going against this spartan. I think the cloak is what fans suspected from the trailer, it wasn't to protect him, it was to have him blend in because he went rogue.

Yes! This new spartan is hunting John down, and we switch between them throughout the game. I love it.

I just had a Halo 5 follower moment....

"So that’s it for now, but E3 is just around the corner. So if you bide your time and hold your breath, you won’t have to wait too long to hear about the next steps on this Great Journey."

The last level of Halo 2 is called....

The Great Journey

They announced a new Halo game before E3? Microsoft, what the hell are you up to?

It's been announced for a year. And this is the beginning of their lead up to E3. They want to do what Sony did last year and make people hungry for Xbox One. They want to knock Sony off their throne and the way this build up has started they very well might. At least in terms of excitement for a console.

I don't like that the Chief is on the bottom part of the cover art. He's the main character and the Xbox's mascot in my opinion so why is isn't he displayed as prominently as possible? I don't like the font either. Overall not a fan of this cover art.

On a less critical note I'm surprised that the Chief is still wearing his Mk. 6 armor after Halo 4s ending.

I hope the "more at E3" includes game play evolutions or something to to rekindle waining intererest in this series. It's been declining in popularity for the last decade and needs something to rekindle the flame, including my own.

So you're comparing a lineup with stuff MS hasn't even announced to Sony's without any of their indie, F2P hits, or smaller gems like Resogun. Seems like a legitimate, objective comparison to me.

I'm gonna guess this mystery dude is hunting chief, especially after he pretty much went rogue in 4. Explains the poncho and Frank's comments last year.

This is Halo, though. It's their biggest franchise. I just don't understand why they wouldn't unveil Guardians on stage.

My dear man, you are terribly mistaken. As a professional Wheelman, I can say with absolute certainty that your opinion is factually incorrect.

Thank you and have a wonderful day.

If they were smart they'd use this opportunity to leverage the OTHER Platform they have that is flailing and could garner them a large spike in sales for the game:

Halo 5 on Windows 8 available on Steam.

Boosts Halo 5's potential audience tremendously, re-unite with an old fan base, bolster Windows 8, etc. It makes too much sense for them to actually do it.

That Halo 5 is getting me all hyped. May just jump on a 399 bone with this and Quantum Break. You're plan is working MS.

Every one of those games is an exclusive, so I have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

ANYWAYS, I didn't play Halo 4, as I don't own a 360. If MS drops the price @E3 is Halo 4 still worth checking out at this point?

Possibly to prevent another leak? This has happened before, a threat of a big leak incurring, then a company announce what would've been leaked as damage control. My own personal opinion is that Halo 5 will take a backseat to Halo 2 Anniversary, and if the rumors are correct, the only thing for Halo 5 we'll see at E3 would be a tech demo. (which I'm quite excited about in it's own right)

Anyone got a close up of the mysterious figure?

The boxart is terrible but it is interesting to see chief not only share the spotlight but be under the mysterious spartan.
