Quantum Break Gameplay Teaser, delayed to 2015, debut at Gamescom

In your personal opinion, how much of a downgrade do you think we can expect from that screaming woman footage in the final game?

I know it's probably hard to quantify, but what would take a hit in your opinion? The various particle effects? The way the glass reacts to the main character? Textures? Lighting? Or pretty much everything?

Sorry Miles I missed this. I don't think we're getting the visuals presented in that first trailer. I don't think it's going to be a Watchdogs situation probably closer to E3 Forza and retail Forza which depending on who you ask people either noticed a "big" difference of didn't notice any.

You must have not been around for the Crash Bandicoot and Mario 64 era. Especially because there was nothing but images in magazines and few demos to get a idea of the gameplay the only thing people talked about were the graphics.

As long as it does not release the same day as a Rockstar game it's good.

I forgot all about that. Really bad decision on MS's part there. Honestly, all of Remedy's games deserve more sales than they got. I'll be there Day 1 of course. One of my personal fav developers, just love their style.

It's not hard to understand why there is an over emphasis on graphics at the start of a new generation of consoles though. Especially this generation, which aside from the promise of much improved graphics is bringing very little different / innovative to the table.

I think this looks better than The Order, Ryse - all that. You guys can try to crucify me, that's fine there's nothing wrong with that. I just haven't been blown away by a console game like I have with QB. Everything from the atmosphere to the environment looks incredible. Let's see how they implement the time control mechanics, that's what will really make the game.

Anyone can find any game better looking than another. Art, setting, mood, atmosphere etc, these things often take precedent over actual technical merits. I'd personally say without a shadow of a doubt, Ryse and Infamous are better looking based only on what I've seen so far, and I'd say The Order is beyond even those two. Main thing I'm finding is that the lighting and shaders are just far more life like and realistic than Quantum Break in its current incarnation, but with a year or so left to release, it's a bit too early for any definitive judgments.

You're asking for more work than should be necessary for a clear response. You wanted to know where there were open vistas and dense detail in environments. They literally gave you the timecode and a description for where they noted each.

Those are certainly open cityscapes and environments with as much interior detail as you could expect without artificially throwing in elements.

Fun game, but please don't act like it was a powerhouse in either looks or performance.


The original comment was that it was a "tad better than a 360 game". It may not be a powerhouse but it was more than a "tad" better than a 360 game imo.

They absolutely were. It was the main reason people even bought new consoles. 16bit this, 32bit that. What do you think all that was for? Graphics were massively important.
 
I wonder how the huge time freeze sections will work. Is it something you have access to at all times or maybe only in certain sections. It appears he goes from a combat mode into more of a detective role when everything is frozen. Maybe you can mess with stuff like moving a obstacle in front of a car and then resuming time to see your created chaos play out.
 
Can someone gif both of the scenes?

The density and quality of all the frozen objects looks like it's much higher quality. The lighting also seems to be a lot better.

The char model looks similar. There are more objects in the previous video (because it exploded, but dunno about their individual quality. the truck on the left of the new gif is very detailed

Edit: And the lighting. Both seem really great considering their environments. He is being properly lit from the explosion in one gif and on the other the car headlights are lightening everything properly too, and they even look volumetric.

I think that's probably a very fair assessment of how the visuals will turn out. I'm personally hoping it will look pretty close to the screaming woman footage, but I have prepared myself for there being some concessions made to visuals to get it running well on the X1.

And not to start a whole 'thing', but I think 900p will probably be the best we can hope for terms of resolution. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though, Ryse being 900p didn't hurt it much in my opinion and it's still one of the most visually impressive games I've played so far on current gen (Infamous Second Son being the other)

I don't mean this in a dismissive way: How old are you, roughly? A response (counterpoint) to what you said could come off as either informative or unintentionally condescending, depending on what range you fall into.

Yes, we aren't going to get the same graphics as the E3 reveal, as that was rendered on a high end PC. Just like Forza 5 got downgraded from E3 reveal to launch, the same will happen with Quantum Break.

While I don't see Quantum Break being able to achieve the graphical fidelity of Infamous:SS or The Order: 1886, it should be able to match Ryse (900p/30fps). Ryse is still, 7+ months after launch, one of the best looking games on Xbox, if not the best. So if Remedy can match that they should be fine. As always, remember Beauty is the Eye of the Beholder.

I meant on GAF.
I'm sure graphics debates and discussions have been around as long as GAF has, certainly for as far as I can remember posting or reading here. But I don't think GAF is quite as old as the time frame these sorts of comparisons have actually gone on for. I could be wrong though.

The art direction is really good. The graphics are decent but i'm sure it will be better by the time its released. I'm very interested in the story for this game. I hope its pretty good.

I really can't think see how somebody can draw the conclusion, based on this two scenes, that this has been downgraded. It just doesn't make sense at all.

Nice, exciting! I'm tempering my excitement for this latest Remedy game after Alan Wake ended up being pretty much my biggest disappointment of last gen (it was partially the reason I jumped full on board the 360 train), but it looks very promising. My biggest concern is that they'd be focusing too much on the story/tv aspirations (and game stories suck 98% of the time; scientific fact) and the gameplay might fall by the wayside, so I'm looking to hear strong impressions about how it plays. Very hyped!

i honestly dont know. i know Timeshift worked around that by giving you some sort of time suit. kind of like asking if you would see anything if you could move faster than light.

I think that light isn't affected by time. Shit's weird, yo.

Why be disappointed in NeoGAF (by the way, NeoGAF is not a hive mind. The COMMUNITY is not disappointed with the visuals; some individual posters are. That's a lazy way out of addressing specific criticism)? Because they have a different standard of visuals than you do? I think the game looks good (not close to one of the most impressive, but good) but I'm not quite sure if it matches what they showed before. I need to see more.

I think this game looks better than anything that has been shown out there.

love the atmosphere.

Takeaway: VGX version has the same fidelity as the E3 trailer. The comparison shows today's version looks better than the vgx version. I resized the pictures because of compression.
