I can't imagine who would rent a game for any period of time for $20.

I would. games like Call of Duty in which I have zero desire to play online are perfect for this. Rather than pay 60 for it new and get 30 back at trade in, I can rent for a month for 20 bucks. 30 days allows ample time to not have pressure to finish.

The $20 concept would work for games that are brand new.
For example AC:U launches this October, on the same day it launches you can either shell out $60 and buy it out right or rent it for $20 for 1 month.
It's a game you are probably going to play for a month anyway.

Would like to see it come in lower but $20 is fine with me as long as the game is new.
It offers options that are currently not available to us.
Hopefully we get some kind of sub service. I would pay up to $15 per month to get unlimited access.

The problem with a subscription service is that Sony already has one - Playstation Plus. While they are not exactly the same, if Now were a sub service they would inevitable be competing against each other (i.e. "pay $20/mo for newer games from Now or pay $6.99/mo for slightly older games from Plus").

Renting a game for x days is pointless. They should go with the Gamefly model. Games are not movies they can't be experience in x number of hours. I say they do a subscription model ala Gamefly:

$10/month - 1 game out
$20/month - 2 games out

Ofcourse, pricing/amount of games being rented could be up for debate but if I'm paying $3 to rent a game for a week, I'd rather to pay $10 to rent any amount of games for the month with the convenience of having to check them back in when not in use.

Gotta remember that Sony is more restricted since they have to make 3rd parties etc. happy as well. If they don't make it worth their time then Sony won't be able to secure too much content for the service.

Gamefly doesn't really have to think about stuff like that.

Gamefly is $16+tax a month for one game out at a time. I would think most people keep their games out for at least 4-6 weeks on average. I know I do. I've been primarily renting for like 6 or 7 years now. It's nice. This whole streaming thing seems completely ridiculous to me though but I haven't got into any of the betas yet to try it.

LOL that's not going to happen.

I still think something like this could work but as you mentioned the incentive might not be there for them to try it. If they can figure out a good price with a special PS+ discount then that might make me happy as well.

I understand all the rendering is done server-side? I wonder if it is feasible to make PS now exclusives with visual fidelity that is impossible on the PS4? As you are only viewing a stream, it shouldn't really matter what hardware the client is running. Right now it is only back catalogue games, but maybe down the road we can see games too powerful develop or port to the PS4?

I would pay 20 to rent something like that.

20 to rent some old PS3 game, no thanks.

It is good to dream... lol

How long will I be able to rent them?

I kind of don't like the idea of renting games. I would rather spend more and own games and then have them stream them to me..
Like something like Steam but with streaming would be nice.

King of Gaslighting
People wanting this to work like Gamefly are deluding themselves. Gamefly works because at some level they've already paid for a physical copy of the game, and it's no different than a friend lending another friend their game disc.

There is no way publishers are going to let gamers have at first run titles on some a la carte subscription base level for what. . .10 bucks a month? Not a damn chance. Seriously though what price do you really think publishes are going to agree on to allow you to play things like DA:I or Arkham Knight when it first releases?

As for the prices, if you are someone who doesn't play games straight through and takes their time, this is obviously not the system for you.

Wait... rentals?

Is this all PSNow is, or does it also allow free access to it's entire library with a monthly PSNow subscription (is PSNow included in PS+'s subscription cost or is it seperate?).

It would be ideal if they set it up like Netflix but they are scare to havea WWE network flop fiasco losing 750Mil.

I dont see it being part of PS+, but I do see discounts instead of 19.99 it would be 14.99.

The $20 option has to be some kind of cheaper long term option.

I could see it being worth it for certain games. if you only play Call of Duty single player and a little casual multiplayer, it's about as good of a deal as buying it for $60 and hoping gamestop gives you $40 for it in a month.

I really hope that South Park Stick of Truth is available on this as I haven't played it yet and I think it'd be great to stream to vita and play there. Lag wouldn't really matter much.

Last of US 19.99

Play it on PS4, VITA, TV ect

this is the idea

Sooo.. although the PS4 TLOU Remastered version won't carry-over multiplayer progress, I should be able to rent TLOU PS3 through PSNow on my PS4 or PSVita and retain all my stats?

How long of a rental does 19.99 get you?

I'd kinda to just use PSNow as Netflix for backwards compatiblity games, and pay a monthly subsciption and have free access to whatever is on PSNow as long as I keep my subsciption. Is there the choice to do this instead of renting on a per game basis?

How would this even work? It's streamed, so there's not taking out or returning. A game would be 'out' while you were playing it. You could go through 200 games in one day, so limiting players to one game being 'out' at a time would be pointless. What would two games out look like? Streaming both at the same time?

Don't, you'll get in trouble.

Anyone with beta however, you should really load up your beta and look at these prices. Unfuckingbelieveable.

This could be so good if it's actually $3 for a day or two to try out games that i'm on the fence for.

I hope that publishers use this service to stream half hour demos of a certain part of the game or something like that for free. It could really help drive sales of a game.

It's why i was kinda eager to post it. I want to discuss it but i don't have access to the beta forums.

thanks for looking out

I assume we're still under NDA because I don't see anybody talking about how it is currently. Would love to discuss, but I'm not risking a ban.

Yeah, we are. I hope I'm not posting too much. I wouldn't even dare post specific prices, as much as I wish I could.

I seriously hope the prices in the beta as of right now are not for real. These are downright insulting.

I'm looking at the prices right now.

How are they insulting?

edit: I know we cant talk much about it, but most of it looks very reasonable. There are a few games on there that are head scratchers, but I could very well see myself using this system with these current prices.
