MS: Xbox One June 2014 sales more than double May 2014's sales

There goes my 200K estimate.

Now I fear my Wii U number.

Even if somehow MS wins November it won't be by much and earl;y next year Sony has a better line up with The Order and Bloodborne so there going to get further away.

Think you are being harsh saying better when we don't know the full line ups of either system

Hoping to see 150k WiiU, MK8 sold like bananas and everyone was hyped as fuck.

When's the next big hitter for PS4? Is TLoU going to be a big boost? Destiny bundle should do well.

lol, they would have gone with almost 300% in that case.

Still doesn't sound as good/catchy (for lack of a better way for me to put it) as "more than double" IMO.

Also, I'm not saying it did sell 200K+ either... I did predict 180K and so far it seems like I was spot on. Like I said though, we'll find out tomorrow.

Man, where does Microsoft go from here?

Can't really cut the price again soon, and the Halo collection is a long ways away.

Sales should keep improving month to month until January. Only possible month I could see the XB1 beating PS4 in NPD is November or December though.

I was expecting a much larger sales bump. I always get my NPD predictions wrong :(

Compared to the April numbers, looks like those who held off in May bought their console in June but there weren't too many new buyers that were convinced by the price drop

That's well below my expectations given how low May was and June being a 5 week month. If we're talking 160k, then May and June combined average out to ~27k per week, basically the same as April NDP. I combine both months because that helps mitigate the effect of announcing a lower priced sku well in advance of it hitting the market.

So we are seeing a jump of 2x sales after a decent price cut, but even those numbers are looking low compared to the competition? Worrying if true...I can imagine some utterly terrible numbers for July / Aug / Sep as demand right now, right after a price cut, is still fairly low.

So does that mean it'll have sold in the region of 155k or more? Also, doesn't this PR and number almost imply that the PS4 sold more than the Xbox One this month, despite the new $399 Xbox One SKU?
It has to be really close to the 160-170k range. If it were even +125% (or especially +150%) they'd have used that more-impressive-sounding number instead of just "doubled". +125% would be ~175k. +150% would be ~195k, meaning that even bragging that wouldn't have been enough to beat Sony, putting the PS4 at 200k+ regardless.

Oh god, you don't suppose the Wii U had a higher jump-by-percentage or even volume m/o/m than the X1? "Most improved sales" sounds like something they'd brag about, too. We're also lacking the term "Xbox family" implying Nintendo and Sony put up higher totals even if 360 sales were up. A new $399 SKU not even putting Microsoft as the top brand for the month would be rough.

Worth saying that the Wii U having a better m/o/m by many measures wouldn't put it over the X1 in total sales. That would still be a massive shocker.

This thread is insanely fun since its 1) a day earlier than and 2) the topic of what 90% of tomorrow's NPD thread will be about anyway.

Get out the chalkboard, I guess.

After seeing Titanfall+X1 fail to beat PS4, there's really nothing that's going to push the X1 ahead of the PS4 as long as price parity remains. PS4 has the public appeal. PS4 is already known as "the multiplatform box" which cannot be underestimated. Plus, Sony's 1st party efforts and the higher quantity of indie games available (and rising) are only going to increase momentum for the system.

Just realized that this probably forgoes any chance of the Wii U outselling the Xbox :(

I really wanted to see that happen.

It was closer to triple than double actually. Like 77K to 194K+

If anyone cares, PS4 sales were precisely 2.55x greater than the Xbone's sales (197k to 77k).

I hope your hope never comes to pass. That would just open the doors for console parity and no one outside of Redmond wants that. If it wasn't for the low sales Microsoft would still be pushing their vision of the future.

That post doesn't mean what the usual "We need parity because competition is good!" posts are talking about (I know what you're thinking, I always mention why the logic is flawed).

It's a joke of someone who wants the console war to stop. Although, he/she forgot that there's multiple of layers to the console war.

EDIT: Welp, looks like they were banned. What happened? Was it because they used the word "cancer"? They could have used another word that isn't controversial when used outside of the common definition to refer to negativity, but the intention of the post was clear.

Has Bloodborne actual gameplay been shown as of yet? All I remember is that trailer that was not gameplay, but have we seen actual gameplay of the game yet?

Ok, unless PS4 sales collapsed it won June NPD.

It will be a long while before anything happens that could change the current trend, it's hard to see it happening in 2014 (maybe MCC) and 2015 looks even more improbable, with games like Bloodborne, The Order 1886, Uncharted 4, etc.

There were a few second clips shown at E3. Anyway the game will be playable at Gamescon next month.

But we're not. Not really.

Aqua, correct me if I'm wrong:

Xboxone April 2014 total (4 weeks): 115K for a weekly average of 28.75K
Xboxone May 2014 total (4 weeks): 77K for a weekly average of 19.25K
Xboxone June 2014 total (5 weeks): ~155K for a weekly average of 31K

So it's slightly above the weekly total before the price cut/unbundling was announced.

That doesn't really seem like an impressive accomplishment given that their may numbers were laughably low, but at least the SDK is doing what it's supposed to do.

As to be expected with the kinectless SKU.

was it?

I'm interested in buying a xbox one this holiday, but figured the kinectless option wouldn't do much. It's the summer drought and the retailer deals around titanfall's release were better at $450. $399 gets you nothing, not even a kinect you can sell. The games they showed at E3 won't be out for awhile, and the holidays will have bundles and sales.

200k would have been "sales nearly tripled".

77 x 2 = 154
77 x 3 = 231

I could see them using either terms ("more than double" or "sales nearly tripled") if the system was at around 185-205K. Again though, I don't how they determine their statements. Tomorrow will show where things are really at.

At 200k They'll say "almost triple"
At 180K they'll say "more than 130% increase in sales", which is better/catchier than "more than double"

Good Improvements...but....damn....sooo it didn't even outsold the PS4 even with that price tag ......

Every person saying the bolded makes Zero sense.

How would becoming the same price as its competitor suddenly skyrocket sales?

Maybe.....that is maybe.......if it had undercut $399 it would have.

I think my guess was 160k

I'm doubting the bolded for July at least. The week-to-week numbers might slightly increase on average from May, but sales are going to drop off from the price-cut and E3 bumps of June.

And why do you think the Xbone will beat the PS4 in Nov. and Dec.? It's not like launch again. This time, Sony will have the mindshare advantage going into the holidays. Only way I can see Xbone outselling the PS4 in November is because of the MC Collection. And that's still just a "maybe." If they have another bundle, that also might improve its chances.

Price cut and 5 weeks tracking period nets them 155k in their strongest territory just imagine how bad XBO is doing in the rest of the world! Sony got this gen in the bag.

They said "millions" of people participated in the Titanfall beta and it was shown that "millions" meant "2 million."

Do people really think the Halo collection will see the XB1 to 1st place in November? I'm not really a Halo fan so it's tough to gauge the excitment, but it's essentially a remake collection right?

Since the PS4 will likely be even further ahead by then, I would imagine that's where people will want to play the big 3rd party games later this year

Hmm there's a bit more to it than that though. The $399 SKU was announced on May 13th, with almost 18 days left in May's NPD tracking period. Thus logic would suggest an almost 3 week early announcement of a cheaper SKU being made available would lead to certain potential XB1 buyers holding off their May purchases into June. [Hence why May numbers were so awful] And it looks like the strategy of early announcement barely bumped the console up from Aprils weekly sales and doesn't account for the lost sales in May really [this last part really requires actual numbers to determine though :\]

It was showed to the press since it's still in development. Some of it leaked, people pounced on it for not being perfect hence why they didn't show it all.
