A few questions, on the earth screen the story missions have a star in the circle as the logo. Mission 3 for me has a star with like wings or something in the circle, why? Did I do something to give it a different logo or is it just like that.

On the map it tells you how many "golden chests" you found, I show 2/5. These are the loot cases, is there one in each story mission?

In Crucible do the weapon stats mean anything? Damage is equal for all right?

Are there only two maps cause it is always moon or venus for me.

Yeah totally just opinions, but I don't know if I've played a game before that's done so little to get me invested and set-up what I'm doing. The grimoire cards might be cool, but I don't personally want to read cards as a means of developing the story.

Here's the issues I have with the game's intro (and first three missions):
- Overall, the story feels thin and fragmented so far.
- The Ghost mentions that he brought me back from the dead, but how, why, etc. isn't really explained.
- The missions feel mundane. I just kind of find a ship I can use, and then...bam...at The Tower. Short cut scene ensues that briefly references some 'Darkness' coming, and then I'm told to just go and help the cause. Um, OK...I guess?
- Now I'm off trying to upgrade my ship without any setup and just killing a bunch of enemies that are there. Not sure who they are, where they're from, etc.

I think all your points are valid if the final game follows this format of disjointed narration. But if you were expecting an exposition on why you are back from the dead, who the enemies are and where they're from, in a beta, then you are expecting too much.

My impressions so far. :)

Pros:

• The game is really challenging on harder difficulties.
• The enemy AI is really good from time to time.
• The controls are pretty much flawless.
• The UI is one of the best I've seen.
• Graphics are beautiful.
• Guns feel good.
• Sound was surprisingly good (especially with a surround headset).
• Running into other players and joining their adventures is very fun.
• The Crucible is very addicting.

Cons:

• FoV slider could be added.
• Loading times are a bit excessive.
• The story seems a bit primitive and generic.
• Your character seems oddly OK with everything that happens.

• No beards (seriously!)
• Please let me rotate my character in character customization.
• A skip option for the opening tutorial perhaps?

Main cons for me are the long loading times and the story presentation seeming meh. Basically the bolded above. Everything else is fine for me lol.

Some of you guys need to stop complaining about how the Beta only has Old Russia. Bungie is still being very generous by opening it up to the public at all. This isn't a demo for the game, it is a stage of development. This isn't supposed to be a free game from Bungie, it is a test to make sure there aren't glitches in the system and to see if there are minor improvements that can be made.

So be glad you have a big Earth map, with several story missions, a strike, free roam, fireteams, PVP multiplayer, loot, leveling, and all the maps we have. We've got glimpses now at a pretty nice, and extremely limited chunk of the game and you are all complaining wildly that it isn't enough. How about we do our part and learn the game while scoping glitches to make this the best experience we can come September, instead of griping that we don't have enough to do in a closed off section of the development process?

I am enjoying it a lot, having a bunch of fun with my friends and I am meeting a lot of new people and getting a chance to play a game that isn't coming out for months. We aren't entitled to more for any reason, we should just be enjoying our opportunity and helping out Bungie while we do it. Called a beta for a reason, guys.

Beta means the game's not completely finished. Name that would suggest the current amount of content would be 'demo', not 'beta'. And honestly, if that was my first time with Destiny I'd be pleased, but after more than a month of post-alpha hype you can't expect people to be pleased with getting pretty much the same content.

Sure, they could expand it during the maintenance, but the initial impression is still massively disappointing when it comes to the amount of content. Honestly, almost makes me worried about how big the final game is going to be.

why in God's name would you want that? Unless there's penalties for it, no friendly fire.

I want it in as if I'm in a firefight with a couple of guys in close quaters it will deter some idiot just hailing a rocket down, it killing me yet his team mates living.

I honestly can't stand that kind of stuff.

Supers should only effect enemies, but normal rockets ect should inflict damage to friendlies.

Heavy ammo is sparse enough to cut back on that crap. Seriously, friendly fire is just troll bate.

Yeah. Well, I don't need a lot of exposition...I just would like a bit more context. The fact I was dead was a comment made casually and almost in passing. Then a brief cut scene to explain some Darkness and boom...I've joined an elite group and am told to help fight the evil. Then there's a whole bunch of bad guys at some location as I attempt to find a part to upgrade my ship. This will enable me to 'travel to other planets'...which is necessary so I can help fight bad guys I guess? It feels disjointed and hasn't done a good job to make me feel invested or like I would just be nodding along with everything like the main character is. They'll obviously flesh things out as the game goes on, but assuming that this is exactly how the first part of the game goes in the full version, I feel it's a slightly weak setup for the game.

I've got both a Warlock and a Hunter to level 8. My Warlock has maxed out beta gear. Started on a Titan thats level 2 but now it's time for sleep.

My main problem with the game is that it is a drag to invite someone into your party if he's not in your friendlist. Too many screens, too many clicks, invites etc...

It's discouraging players from creating and breaking parties on the get go.

PS3 looks absolutely fine, IMO. Playing on ps3 too for now, will be playing ps4 in November, but I'd say anyone with a ps3 is going to be fine playing this.

Yep. I'll be playing on 360 and Xbox One
and PC Master Race when it inevitably comes out later
, but after being glued to my screen for ~6 straight hours playing on my PS3, I would say it's perfectly fine. Sure the image quality is not anywhere near the level you'll get on the next gen platforms, but if you're buying for last gen, you know that already. That said, the game is still really gorgeous, and it translates "down" perfectly adequately - especially considering this is beta. I'm impressed to be honest. Just don't expect it to melt your face off like the PS4 version. And don't sit 2 feet from a monitor - play it on a TV, that helps a bit (at least with mine eyes :p). And I play the vast majority of my games at 1080p60 on PC if they are cross platform, so I'm picky about this. Game is stable and consistent enough, and just as much fun to play I imagine. No worries PS3 users!

I have a feeling that they would have missions on it after the maintenance shutdown. That way it doesn't get spoiled before xbox folk get to play it. Wishful thinking, but I don't see any other point of showing the moon alone and leaving other planets.

If this happens, I would fully forgive Bungie for their transgressions
... until DLC 1

Maxed my Titan out at 8, did all the activities on normal difficulty, and played some PvP. PvE is really fun, I'm still trying to get a grip on PvP. I'm really curious to see how much content the full game will have; hoping for a lot of strikes, raids, and PvP maps.

The story is ho-hum, but that's what I expected. Bungie has always had pretty shit storytelling and writing imo, with the exception of Halo 1(sort of). They replace depth with presentation, so I just turn my brain off, shoot shit with others, and enjoy the awesome music, visuals, and atmosphere. Even then the story stays out of the way for the most part, so that's good.

Definitely better than I expected, I couldn't get hyped from game play videos and streams of it, its a boring game to watch for me. An awesome one to play though, so far.

played until lvl 5. The cap at beta is 8??

anyway, I don't know how the lobby town and multiplayer works.

I see some random people at the map during the mission. Are we having same objective? cause we never worked together.. Also when I enter certain area of the map the other players seem to disappear?

I am not good at FPS so I find the game quite challenging. at the moment. Sometimes I enter an area at the beginning of the map and there are some monsters with yellow name (rare monster?) that kills me instantly.

Well not really when you have a handy boot option and also you'd be able to track betrayal stats and if it go above a certain percentage it could then auto enforce a ban.

Automatic bans (especially Bungie's) are never a good idea.

I agree with the sentiment, but it ultimately does not affect the game much. There is no ripple-free solution either. They can develop a complex algorithm to track behavior and accidents or whatever, but someone will eventually find a way to exploit it.

True, but in an ideal world it would be useful to put them in as it does make the game more competitive and it actually would help creating some epic firefights.

I really dislike the fact that they're off in default COD.

Maybe there could be a playlist where they're on....

I know back in the days of Halo 2 (when I was in elementary)
and kicked ass at that game btw. One of the only multiplayer games I didn't suck at
I'd love team killing when I felt bored of playing seriously lol.

I did it a bit in Halo 3 too (middle school dayz)

In Reach it just got extremely annoying because I'd get booted for things I didn't do on purpose.

The only reason I'd want team killing in this is so I could mess with my irl friends like I did in other halo games. Whether it was just as kinda playing around during the match, or me shooting him elusively in ways where he thought the gun shots where coming from the enemy team.... *sigh* good times.

But overall, to hell with friendly fire

Been playing since I got up at 7:30am, been a solid day and I'll max my lock tomorrow (Titan and hunter maxed).

Anyone know what the deal with mars pvp map not being in the beta at the moment is?

Here is some pictures I took. Game looks gorgeous

This is probably the worst part. Get in the interceptor before someone on your team? He'll just nova bomb you.

Young kids especially get a kick out of that thing. It would be a disaster.

Exactly. Do not want.

Well not really when you have a handy boot option and also you'd be able to track betrayal stats and if it go above a certain percentage it could then auto enforce a ban.

How would a boot system work? COD style, three TKs and your booted? Or Halo styled "Do you wish to kick [x]?" How do you account for actual mistakes? Too many variables, just nix friendly fire.

After playing for a few hours, there's a few things that jump at me:

  • The tutorial/intro segment is too rushed for casual players to get an understanding of what the hell they are playing, and it's too long for everyone who already get it. It's stuck in this place where neither side can be happy I think, and I honestly fear a lot of people who aren't playing more then a few games a year will get super confused by what the hell is going on.
  • The first 30 minutes are almost rushing you through everything, I really hope it's an beta thing because man. If I hadn't been reading up on Destiny, playing the Alpha and watching videos I would be so lost on what to do, and more importantly why.
  • The story doesn't make any kind of sense. My biggest fear is that it will end up like Halo, where in order to get the actual worthwhile story I need to seek it out in companion media
  • Levels feel tuned for co-op mostly, which is understandable but kinda sad as someone who doesn't really care super much about that
  • - The darkness zone stuff feels really weird, and made me play it a lot safer then I would normally do an encounter.

Game itself feels fine, there's an nice flow to the combat and the play areas feel big enough that you can improvise in terms of tactics. Will be super interesting to see how much crazier Bungie can go when the next game is not on last gen.

If Activision gets their advertising team to go full CoD on this, it will end up being their next big IP. The bigger question if they can retain the playerbase throughout the next decade, and how they will do that.

Agreed. Apart from the impressive opening cut scene, there really wasn't much in terms of story. While playing the game, I kept telling my buddies that this feels like they have chosen all the ancillary story missions to not spoil the main plot in the beta. If that IS the plot, then I agree. It isn't remotely interesting.

Well they have preorders out the ass and huge hype going for their game now, even they are considering not erasing progress after this so why not let us have some more fun. You really think this a true Beta?

Hopefully we get the option to vote on maps for PVP in full game release. All I'm getting is Moon and Venus. Let us vote Bungie for where we want to PVP, it only makes sense. The Moon kinda gets frustrating with vehicle campers who don't do objectives, just drive around looking for kills.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Yeah it's really weird. I hope they'll add them in the full game. What is a knight without his fabulous beard no?

Being a beard-haver and a fan of knights, I cannot help but agree wholeheartedly.

Enjoyed what I played last night. Hit the level cap a bit quicker I thought I would. Not really an issue. Story missions are okay, narrative is a bit strange though. No reason or explanation for stuff you are doing. Might just be the beta I guess. I really enjoyed the free roaming and that strike mission is great fun.

Competitive multi seems cool if a little unbalanced. Only played a few games on the moon. That tank is crazy over powered. One thing I don't like is that shooting enemies doesn't feel...right? Hard to explain but it's like there is no good feedback for when you shoot someone? Might just be me.

The co op stuff got a bit stale after a while as I wasn't playing in a fire team so if anyone wants to add me and play later on feel free (AGoodODST).

I'd have it as a mixture of the two systems. IF a guy betrays 3 people in a match instantly out.

Also people get the chance to forgive him if he messed up.

Personally I had no issues with this in Halo, especially when it had a ranking system within it as everyone on the team wanted to win,

Half the problem with later Halo's was the lack of ranking system which then switched the focus to KD so people became dicks to get power weapons.....

Did not realize the game you download is just a launcher to download 10 more gigs. Will play this for a few days before I sent my PS4 to Sony (jet engine loud fans).

Looking forward to Paul McCartney music.

Please add me as I have no one to play with. PSN ID: Dan_The_ManDJ

Agreed. It needs to be quicker and easier.

I think you can go to the roster menu and just select on their name on the right side. That's only a couple screens and presses.

I don't suppose there's anything else they can do with the controller to bring up the roster faster.

Kids will be kids.

I never understood the practical benefit of friendly fire anyway.

The real reason it was good to have it in as it made you more aware of surroundings and where your team where at all times, also stopped people just rocketing people and having their team mate survive a point blank hit.

But I guess I come from a different zone to most I played quite a lot of MLG so teamwork was really important, so shooting someone either with a sniper or rocket wasn't really what I was aiming for..

As to other playlists/social where betrayals were rife.
