didn't get cagliostro?

I will eventually be acquiring it. Best Miyazaki, etc.
shouldn't it be around £40? Still $60 is surely expensive for a movie but considering that usually anime BDs are really overpriced I was expecting them to be even more high-priced.
btw, where did you get them?
It's around £35 per movie but then you add in import tax and shipping. If you order from Amazon JP, as I did, the only shipping available is the most expensive option. I did, however, receive my order in 3 days.

...maybe?

Let's test that:

Hot tip: always pre-order on Amazon when an anime title is listed and you know you're going to want it. You will always be charged the lowest price. I've saved over £30 for ordering Gurren Lagann early.

Rightstuf is usually cheaper for pre-orders, especially during sales.

Holy fuck this was so good. It's on the level of the two movies for production quality and it's also, like, filled to the brim with neat visual ideas. Not just the extremely improved funny faces, Igarashi topped himself here. I love the approach, just a laid-back summer vacation vignette full of antics with a touch of character development. Dialogue felt like a step up from the usual too, Doremi was great in this episode.

The ED is amazing stuff, instant favourite.

If you live outside the US, it's often more expensive. I live in Canada, and with the shipping and tax, often it's cheaper just to get from Amazon. I only use RightStuf for Aniplex and sometimes Sentai titles; Sentai titles tend to cost around the same as Amazon, but they often ship around a month early.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusaders 21

Better Tokyo Ghoul then Tokyo Ghoul
The dreaded censorship returns in full force.
I'm still not sure how one of the later battles is going to pan out given how hard this has been on cracking down on the animal violence besides snakes.

Zankyou no Terror 07

Oh good, the engrish returned.
So seven episodes in and I'm sure a lot of people are thinking the same thing as me.
What the fuck is anyone trying to accomplish here.
Twelve and Nine are terrorists who are in fact trying to stop a bomb from going off because it's not theirs. Are they even terrorists? They seem to have no goal in mind and don't really want to kill anyone. I mean, it's pretty obvious what they are trying to prove or say (something about the testings done on them and Five as a kid, VON is probably the facility or something) but how does this help and how does that Uranium they stole fit into this?
Five and the government want to blow up an airplane to frame them (I think) but they could've just stopped them instead of playing that silly chess game. The Japanese government is completely alright with this psychotic girl just doing as she pleases?
Shouldn't they be more focused on stopping things from getting blown up instead of having their own people blow things up?

I don't know who's the terrorist anymore.
The terrorists are trying to stop the bomb and the government is trying to make the shit explode.
Whaaaaaaat

Constantly being able to see the future must be a major pain. The fact he had to constantly remind himself that what he was seeing was the future shows that he wasn't fully adjusted yet either. Talk about having it rough.

Chobits Ep. 10*

The dreaded recap episode, first time encountering one in a long time. A really lazy one at that so I skimmed through it. No substantial commentary or anything really.

* - It's episode 10 on Netflix but going by Wikipedia it's actually 8.5.

I still think Shaft is capable of good work. They just need the right material to use. Even Hanamonogatari was well done, despite a rough first segment.

They are. The studio is capable of doing whatever they want. Just sometimes I suspect they take the easy road with backgrounds because they can. The way they draw characters and forefront things so effortlessly I have to believe they can also do good backgrounds and animation sequences if they choose.

Looks like the Cowboy Bebop blu rays on Amazon went up to $90, hope everyone that wanted them already preordered when they were 20 bucks cheaper (i didn't).

I did! thanks yall for the heads up before!

Pretty disappointed that neither of the Bebop limited sets has a soundtrack. I'll stick with the standard BD.

Yeah that would have gotten me to pay more even. But Im just happy to finally get them.
This yea has been INCREDIBLE for anime announcements and releases.
Absolute landmark year if you are an older anime fan.

Fate/Zero 4

Man, these episodes just fly by. As soon as you start getting invested, that damned timer shows up on screen.

Yeah FZ is a very easy watch. It goes by really quickly as you get drawn more and more into the controlled chaos.

ADV always had a sense of fun and humor and it looks to have translated to Sentai as well.

Ahahahahahahahaha.

I look at my pre-thinpak DVD collections of shows I will probably never watch again where each volume of 3 or 4 episodes cost me about $10 an episode, and I weep.

Actually, to be perfectly honest, I don't. I might have sold a fair few of them on now for virtually nothing, but at the time they were worth it - the quality was streets ahead of anything I was watching digitally or could get hold of on VHS, and even then my poor little laptop used to cry at fast panning scenes on fan subs. It wasn't until I bought the DVDs that I was able to watch the scene in the Wolf's Rain OP where the camera pans across a chain link fence without loads of skipped frames :)

Sadly I'll probably even end up getting rid of the thinpaks soon as well as the last few remaining DVDs. These days most of the anime I end up buying I have no real intention of watching - I still see it as a symbol of "legitimising" my anime watching, even though I now watch pretty much everything through legal means. Most recently I bought the first From The New World BD collection - a show I really, really liked, but I don't really want to watch it again, I just felt it was a way of monetising it further :(

Yeah I definitely dont miss THOSE prices.
Im still reminded of them because FYE inexplicably still prices anime as if it is 2000.

You watching it dub or sub? I feel Caster was done better in the dub.

Sub, and I'm actually enjoying Caster's voice work. Full-out insanity works well for him.

Speaking of which...

Fate/Zero 9

Fountains of blood, ear-piercing screams! This episode was all-out battle, and it was quite fun. Screw you Kirei,
thank goodness for Avalon
.

Terra Formars OVA 1
A ton of stuff is skipped, but they have to cover all of Bugs II with two episodes so I can't exactly blame. Can't wait for the anime though. Oh damn.

Also, those cockroach noises aren't what I expected them to be.

But then you miss out on Akira Ishida playing his Master. :p

The thing about dubs and subs when done by professionals is you learn to let go of some positives to gain positives in other things.

For example I watched it both dub and sub, and while sub is amazing for most I prefer the dub because it has Liam O'Brien and Jamieson Price (Lu Bu) together again (they were in Nier together).

And outside of Troy Baker and Nolan North, Liam O'Brien is one of my favorite VA's for games and/or anime.

So if I'm interested in checking out Terra Formars should I watch these OVAs or wait for the actual series?

It really has! There's been a lot of older anime coming to BD this year. Asides from Bebop, coming soon we have Bubblegum Crisis, Ghost in the Shell (the original, unaltered version), the first Cardcaptor Sakura movie, and Jin-Roh! If we're lucky, Discotek's BD of Cagliostro will be out before the year ends! It seems more like it'll end up releasing early next year, though.

Rokujouma no shinryakusha - 07

This show is really my surprise of summer , i managed to love all the characters and each episode has been unique and well done be it comedy or serious things.

But i have so many questions ... the anime is properly forshadowing something.. heck it does use many little plot devices for comedy

I can only hope to have a satisfying conclusion ..

PS: i liked the fact that the preparations for the play were used and not the play itself

I mean it depends because the OVA covers Bug ll Arc which is the prequel to the main series and the other one comes in Nov. And it did skip things but that's because it has 2 episodes in total to work with. Since it was bundled with the manga Vol it's pretty much just a teaser for the anime series. I mean if you want to take a glimpse of it to see what these roaches are capable of and see the bug transformations then go ahead. Though like I said it may be a bit confusing to understand as they didn't really explain everything or go over the characters background. As it was made in mind for the manga readers, but I say check it out since it's entertaining and it will help you wait for the anime series. And just see it as a teaser for the main series.

I don't understand all the motivation complaints, either. I think it's easy to infer honestly. I personally don't think every series needs characters backstories.

Hmm, sounds like I'll wait until I've seen the first season of the anime/read the manga before checking out the OVA then. Thanks for the info

Captain Erf 20

Holy crap it took us this long to finally have Teppei and Akari kissu? Jeebus after it was teased in the first op I was almost wondering if the show had forgotten they were supposed to be a thing. Again this show seems to be doing too much having planetary gear Ai AND a Salty Dog member at the same time is just too many plot lines for this show when neither is handled well.

Jesus Christ, talk about mood whiplash. I can't tell if this is meant to be comedic or dramatic, but either way, it completely sucks at both
