I still can't believe Shulk's officially been revealed. Still feels like it's just the realms of leaks and/or fantasy... but nope, if I ever need a quick pinch, he's right there, top of the front page.
Already paid off both versions, so I might as well just pick 'em up on day one. Wouldn't be financially advisable to do otherwise, and possibly forfeit my money.
I've been keeping an eye on recent submissions to Tumblr with the "Shulk" tag (note: not all of it's SFW, or even SFL), and so far most of it's just text reactions, clips from the reveal trailer or screens from the site. Still, you do occasionally get something:

There was some fair criticism/discussion throughout and it wasn't the worst competitive/casual argument we've seen but it was far outweighed by some dumb shit. At least it gave us this fun quote:

I'm starting to feel like I was the only person on the planet who didn't think it was mewtwo. I'm still confuzzled that people were screaming "OMG MEWTWO" as water formed in the hands. I guess maybe not many people noticed/felt it looked watery or something? The fact it was kinda being done from the darkness too made my mind jump to Greninja first as well

We already know Ridley, Isabelle, and Tingle are in the game. Is there any reason why DLC would make them playable? Don't give me the Alfonzo excuse - you can't just summon "Isabelle" as an Assist only to have some other Animal Crossing character show up in her place.

To be fair considering how all-over-the-place the SSB4 OT's can get when we're low on news, I think a Smash OT or an OT for Project M/Melee would absolutely help qualm the dumb casual/competitive strife that comes up now and then. Besides JoeInky, Anthony and a few others, I don't think we have enough people who're well-versed enough with that scene to keep up those sort of conversations in this thread since the rest of the regulars are (more or less) apathetic about it.
Complaining about people preferring to talk about what characters get in when that's half the appeal of Smash instead of specific mechanic changes, balance or other more nice topics is something else though. May as well complain most people talking about MK8 before release were more interested in the characters and tracks that got in over item balance or whether snaking still existed or not.

While it's beyond unlikely that Sakurai would convert ATs or bosses to playable characters, remember that R.O.B. couldn't be playable because he was an enemy, Toon Link couldn't be playable because he was a background character, and Dr. Mario wouldn't be playable because he'd never make it in over Mewtwo

Sakurai literally only needs to patch the game w/ Tingle DLC to change him to Knuckle or something. Isabelle? Change her to Tom Nook. He even makes more sense to be tossing fruit about (though the not-charging-a-fee part...). Both characters aren't ATs that you interact with, you only interact with things that they spawn. Therefore, it would actually be very simple to replace their Assist Trophy functionality.

To answer that question, since I actually thought about it before. I basically made it a rule to where only if there is two available options for a female alt, then I'll allow them to be in the tournament. :x

It just doesn't feel right to have named characters be replaced by other characters, even if they do act essentially the same.
The same goes for alternate costumes - I feel that alternate costumes should still stay within character. As much as I love Louie, I wouldn't want to see any non-Olimar alternate colors for Olimar.
Your DLC list was missing Doshin the Giant, so it obviously isn't "the best possible."
I'm sure not 100% of the participants will make it.
Rather than defaulting the win, maybe people who didn't make it in originally can sub in for them?
I dunno, i'm not making the rules, but it's all in good fun, so I don't see why not.
