NPD Sales Results for August 2014 [Up4: PS4 #1, XB1 last week sales 2x last Jul week]

The bundle seems very popular. I expect both consoles to have a boost to their sales but I expect crazy numbers for PS4.

Japanese sales are exciting because we actually get data, even though consoles are selling about 500 units a week.

Completely off their trolley. There's no momentum for the platform. MK brought in some extra players but the software releases are too few and far between to take it any further. The WiiU doesn't have anything really big until Smash whilst the new systems have a very steady release of big titles from now till December.

Activision made the money back from its investment on Destiny within a day from sales with retailers if I'm not mistaken. With the advertisement Sony has with Destiny I'm also expecting crazy numbers.

nah XB1 numbers just happened to get an update with the UK PS4 1 million announcement (ratio is still 1.5:1)

edit: however we do know YTD for Wii U in France (up to June, not August though) is 64k, and the Wii U is doing similarly in Germany and significantly worse in the UK, so take that as you will

I agree, but the idea that sales will triple or quadruple in September because of a sexy new color scheme and a game releasing on 4 platforms seems a bit over the top. I could be wrong, but I cannot think of an instance in the past where this occured.

Can anyone PM me the Madden numbers for XB1 and PS4 both with and without the bundle? I'm floored that the PS4 version outsold the XB1 version at retail. Did not expect that. I won't repost I'm just curious of the PS4 sales outstripped retail+bundles on XB1.

I think Mario Kart has likely hit the ceiling for what it can do with the Wii U's current install base. If the Wii U hardware numbers are also down from how they have been for the last few months, then Nintendo might have some cause for (additional) concern. Mario Kart won't be relevant again until this holiday, when Nintendo makes their holiday bank and the new DLC comes out.

If it happens, it's because it's several months worth of sales all counting in one single month.

There'd just be boring numbers and finished. Now we get to speculate :D

Really though Japanese are weekly and less important, but it seems to me like 99% of the time it's so much info it's hard to go through and after a couple of pages it's finished and people are discussing next week. Here it's a slow leak with plenty of time for each number and lot's of calculating percentages and what a press release (or lack thereof) means. Maybe I'd have a different experience if I knew about sales GAF in 2009 (when I started reading GAF), but when the month is more exciting than this I really love these threads even when numbers are really slow :p

What if that theory MS conjured up about people being satisfied with last gen is true? Maybe they just mixed up things, 360 owners are unsatisfied with their consoles and are moving to next (PS4), while PS3 owner are fine with their lastgen console getting constant support and having PS+ / free multiplayer?

Man, if all of these games with active online communities keep going PS4, that's not good for MS. If people are coming in and buying what their friends have - their friends likely have PS4.

Is it possible for Destiny Xbone version to outsell PS4 version next month?
I mean if PS4 Destiny bundle sold say 300k then thats 300k destiny copy not counted on the ranking.

The people already owning a PS4 getting their friends to buy a PS4 snowballing effect must be starting. This is not good for Microsoft especially considering Destiny's launch.

I never understood the "Wow", "Oh snap" Surprised", etc responses in these NPD threads.

The PS4 is almost if not literally doubling the Xbox One in install base.

I mean... You'd have to be pretty bad at math not to expect these NPDs.

If I can predict this every month, can I has Pachters job?!

If watchdogs selling more one ps4 compared to xbone did not set off red alarms at MS. Madden selling more on ps4 even after all the NFL deals and madden bundles MS acquired will.
