Yeah, not really. There is a difference between a trend and totals, especially with how front loaded all the consoles were.

PS4 is still the fastest selling home console bar the Wii I think. Regardless, 2015 heavy hitters will kick sales into overdrive, and then Morpheus will send them to heaven.

PS2 fad as well I suppose.

Not totally sure if you're serious, but it was at the time a super cheap DVD player. I know a lot of people who bought one to play DVD's and to a lesser extent the PS3 with blue rays. I wouldn't call it a fad but a lot of people who had no reason to be interested in the PS2 bought one for reasons either than games.

There's no spin to be made. The PS4 is selling abnormally low for a market leader in the US. Christmas will be very telling if this gen will suffer a bigger contraction than anticipated.

Where have y'all been ?

The last two august sales the 360 the market leader has been under 200k.

Not even close on a per month basis, when you discard the first month outlier.

People still get this mad at lighthearted jabs at the Vita in NPD threads at this point?

well.....have it your way then, I guess

(I mean really even if we use a more "normal" figure it would be 2-3 months anyway)

Sorry if I'm a bit grumpy, it just feels like such an old joke that has been run into the ground so many times.

Any consoles that weren't fads other than the PS4, XB1 and WiiU?

Add in to the fact that Madden (or any EA game for that matter) never had true online play on the Xbox until 2004, and it makes sense as to why Madden was always synonymous with PlayStation. I hate to use the word, but PlayStation was pretty much the "dudebro" console before Microsoft entered the industry.

Precisely.

Poor Vita. I guess the next month of any interest for the Vita is October, since the Playstation TV come out then.

Nah, not going help at all. I remember people saying the last hold of Vita was acting as a peripheral for remote play and it still continue its spiral trend downwards.

Wait, so some of the narrative facing the PS4 for some is now "well, sure, it's totally stomping over the XB1, but it should be killing it way harder than it is! That means it's in a weak position!"...? Good grief.

I believe it was only in the past 1-2 months that it fell behind the Wii's trajectory. Despite it's very weak standing comparatively the XB1 is still soaring above its predecessors. I swear, these could both sell a million a month for years straight and it could somehow be spun into bad news. "They're reaching their cap!", "attach rates are down!", etc.

Lol at applying outliers when the console hasn't even been out a year yet. Come back in year 2 and 3. These doom and gloom forecasts based on short term data is getting boring to see every NPD.

"PS4 is underperforming as the market leader."

Wow this should be a nice meme for next few NPD threads.

In NPD september thread people will mocking that, but is just a fact.

Selling less than 200k for several months is not what we should expect for a leader.

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
I really do wonder how this holiday pans out.

I think it could be brutal across the board even with some crazy deals. I know it's extremely early in the cycle, but the sooner the Xbone and PS4 can get to $300 the better.

Good God no!

Not in my case at least.

To be selling that many units a month they'd have tapped into a heretofore unseen gaming market. Making dedicated gaming systems, not only huge, but the defacto standard for a gaming style I happen to love.

I'd be singing praises.

No, it's been behind the Wii's trajectory for a while now. A console that was truly supply constrained as well. Totals aren't trajectories.

I haven't suggested that the CoD bundle and Halo Remake collection will propel the XB1 past the PS4 in November. If you look at a few of my previous posts in the thread, they will confirm this.

I DO think CoD will sell more on XB1 than PS4, but that's an entirely different story, which I'm not going to argue further because I've already given my points in this thread and in multiple other threads on why that is.

Again, no one has presumed anything about hardware sales, I merely suggested that the bundle will sell very well and some are underestimating it, which doesn't mean it will necessarily outsell the PS4 in November.

It's also not only a 500 SKU vs a 400 PS4 sku anyway. It would be that plus Halo MCC and the Sunset bundle, but I haven't said that it will outsell the PS4 regardless.

I doubt CoD has ever been included in a $500 bundle, so of course it hasn't. The original 360 never had a $500 price point so that would be impossible as it was the console with the exclusive marketing rights.

I have no idea who will outsell who in November as their are too many factors in play to accurately predict such a thing right now. However, I wouldn't downplay the potential that a CoD bundle could have combined with the other above things.

Ok then we are largely in agreement in our skeptical/wait-and-see positions. I haven't suggested that the COD bundle wouldn't sell well, just that I was underestimating it. It seems to me that given only that information, it's not possible to determine whether my assessment is misguided or not until we've established what that over/under estimate is. I assumed it was win November. If that's not it, then I was mistaken.

Fastest selling non-wii for now but the streams will cross with PS2 in the first half of next year at the latest. If you look at it's performance since January it's simply been doing good numbers, but nothing amazing: certainly nothing that inspires confidence in the console market as a whole.

"PS4 is underperforming as the market leader."

It's almost as if *gasp* it's the truth. No one is saying the PS4 is selling badly, more like, the PS4 is just indicating a shrinking market.

Selling less than 200k for several months is not what we should expect for a leader.

I wouldn't necessarily attribute that solely on the leader, but sales aren't great all around when we draw back from how things used to sell in tyr past.

It's true across the board.

I think so too :/
The 360 had zero completion in its first year and it's pretty obvious the game industry is completely different then when the 360 launched.

In 2007 it sold 270k.
You're forgetting the PS2 which sold similar or better numbers IIRC. Combined PS360 sell like 80k monthly now.

Damn it aqua I was about to get some sleep :(

I guess. I just got some hope demand wasn't non existant when it actually sold some units and ran out of stock, but it seems like even with supply demand is like 15k tops.

I mean, the numbers are so sad....that are funny.

Vita is a gigantic failure that everyone predicted.
